The group has been petitioning residents for more than two weeks and will present the petition, which to date boasts more than 2,000 signatures, to city council Monday. Many students at Lethbridge Community College, some who reside on the Westside, have mixed reactions to the plan. “I think it is a good step but it won’t solve all the issues,” said Modderman. “A lot of drivers are distracted. They have cell phones, other drivers and the sun to worry about and pedestrians are the least of most of their concerns.” For some, the current upgrades are simply not enough. “It’s a blind corner, especially when Photo by Anne-Marie Jackson going up and the sun is in your eyes, Laureen and Art Roesler, parents of 23-year-old Adam Roesler, lay flowers at the sight where their son was killed by a car at a there is no way you are going to see Whoop-Up Drive crosswalk in August. Jennifer Moser has spent 22 years of her life on the ice. Twice a week, she shares that space with 11 other Lethbridge students practicing synchronized skating. It’s a well-known sport in figure skating but has not gained the notoriety of Olympic officials or the Canadian public. Over the years, the Lethbridge Ice Angels synchronized skaters have moved from underdog status to powerhouse team in competition. With this season just kicking off, Moser is back on her blades and looking ahead to the Rose Bowl competition in February.
