The objective of this report is to characterize suborbital reusable launch vehicle (RLV) concepts currently in development, and define the military, civil, and commercial missions and markets that could capitalize on their capabilities. The structure of the report includes a brief background on orbital vs. suborbital trajectories, as well as an overview of expendable and reusable launch vehicles. Current and emerging market opportunities for suborbital RLVs are identified and discussed. Finally, the report presents the technical aspects and program characteristics of selected U.S. and international suborbital RLVs in development. The appendix at the end of this report provides further detail on each of the suborbital vehicles, as well as the management biographies for each of the companies. The integration of suborbital RLVs with existing airports and/or spaceports, though an important factor that needs to be evaluated, was not the focus of this effort. However, it should be noted that the RLV concepts discussed in this report are being designed to minimize unique facility requirements.

JSC/EC5 U.S. Spacesuit Knowledge Capture (KC) Series Synopsis Topic: EVA Physiology & Medical Considerations Working in the Suit Date: January 24, 2012 Location: Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, TX Presenter: Scott Parazynski, M.D. Synopsis: This “EVA Physiology & Medical Considerations Working in the Suit” presentation covers several topics related to the medical implications and physiological effects of suited operations in space from the perspective of a physician with considerable first-hand Extravehicular Activity (EVA) experience. Key themes include EVA physiology – working in a pressure suit in the vacuum of space, basic EVA life support and work support, Thermal Protection System (TPS) inspections and repairs, and discussions of the physical challenges of an EVA. Parazynski covers the common injuries and significant risks during EVAs, as well as physical training required to prepare for EVAs. He also shares overall suit physiological and medical knowledge with the next generation of Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) system designers. Biography: Dr. Scott Parazynski is a physician and a physiologist with expertise in human adaptation to stressful environments, having been graduated from Stanford University and Stanford Medical School. He went on to train at Harvard University and in Denver in preparation for a career in emergency medicine and trauma. In 1992 he was selected to join NASA’s Astronaut Corps and eventually flew five Space Shuttle missions and conducted seven spacewalks (EVAs). In October 2007, Parazynski led the EVA team on STS-120, a highly complex space station assembly flight, during which he performed four EVAs. The fourth and final EVA is regarded by many as one of the most challenging and dangerous ever performed.

  • The Case of Red Bull
Master Thesis Value creation by branding: the case of Red Bull Copenhagen Business School – 15th May 2018 International Marketing and Management Supervisor: Jonas Nielsen Stausholm – 107017 Peter Schrøder Jon Kjartan Kristinsson – 107553 Characters/pages: 271,459/119 Abstract Firms have to rethink what they see as their core competencies, as brand capital is becoming the main value creator in the 21st century, compared to physical capital in the 20th century. Red Bull is the world’s largest energy drink manufacturer, the brand as a resource, is the source of sustainable competitive advantage for Red Bull, a strong brand is the main factor of differentiation within the energy drink industry. The core identity of the Red Bull brand is to give wings to both people and ideas. The brand meaning is value based, making it possible to successfully extend the brand far beyond the core business. Since its foundation Red Bull has successfully diversified into several sport sub-industries - as for example eSports, football and Formula 1 - generating high brand awareness. Red Bull´s ownership strategy of sport teams, athletes and events, is significantly different from the strategy of their competitors, as well as other strong brands. Sport activities are guaranteed to create memorable experiences, and these experiences build and maintain Red Bull´s strong brand, a brand which has achieved a truly loyal base of consumers. These consumers exhibit both behavioural and attitudinal loyalty. Red Bull is perceived to be superior to its competitors, as well as being a premium brand, generating several essential benefits for Red Bull. The high degree of brand awareness, as well as the emotional attachment generated by associating the Red Bull brand with sport activities, supports the utilization of the brand as a resource which is the source of a sustainable competitive advantage for Red Bull.

  • Spacesuits Is Growing and Could Present an Attractive Opportunity for Investment
PREFACE Space Angels Network continually endeavors to understand new market opportunities for investment. Our position, at the forefront of early-stage space investing, gives us a unique vantage point from which to assess nascent markets. And this knowledge provides our investor members with the insights they need to make informed investment decisions in this dynamic industry. With the proliferation of new in-space destinations coming online (Bigelow BA330, Axiom, ROS, Tiangong, cis-lunar, lunar surface, Mars surface) and new crewed launch vehicles (SpaceX Dragon, Boeing Starliner, Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo, Blue Origin New Shepard), we are at an inflection point for human spaceflight. Therefore, we believe the market for spacesuits is growing and could present an attractive opportunity for investment. The market dynamics of the spacesuit industry are daunting: few customers, high development risk, and dominant incumbents. The long-term success of a spacesuit business is predicated on the proliferation of human spaceflight, whether commercial or otherwise. If indeed human spaceflight is on the cusp of becoming mainstream, then spacesuit companies will be our proverbial canary in the coalmine. Rygalov, Ph.D., HF & ED University of North Dakota Summer 2015 Abstract Decades of space exploration lead humankind to increasingly busy orbital space around Earth. Numerous launches, satellites, and other artificial objects on the orbit on one hand led to increased astronaut presence in space, and on the other hand, it created lots of traffic, debris and possible emergency situations for the personnel. Currently in the case of large emergency on ISS, astronauts would have to leave the station onboard the CRV, such as Russian “Soyuz”. Besides the fact that it can hold only three astronauts, thus limiting ISS crew to only three (or nine when three CRV’s are attached to ISS), what would happen if emergency strikes the CRV’s first, and ISS still has to be abandoned? Though the possibility of such scenario is very slim, it is one of those low probability, high impact “black swans” which can claim astronauts’ lives.
