During the period since some hundreds of research and scientific works have been published, including hundreds of research report by professors at major famous universities. The author herein shows that all these works related to Space Magnetic Sail concept are technically incorrect because their authors did not take into consideration that solar wind impinging a MagSail magnetic field creates a particle m agnetic field opposed to the MagSail field. In the incorrect works, the particle magnetic field is hundreds times stronger than a MagSail magnetic field. That means all the laborious and costly computations in revealed in such technology discussions are us eless: the impractical findings on sail thrust (drag), time of flight within the Solar System and speed of interstellar trips are essentially worthless working data! The author reveals the correct equations for any estimated performance of a Magnetic Sail as well as a new type of Magnetic Sail (without a matter ring). Aerospace Industry Review Paper Canadian Space Society Introduction In 1962, Canada became the third country in space with the launch of Alouette-1. Since then, Canada has had a proud history of significant contributions in science and technology through space research and development. In 1967, the Chapman Report provided a series of recommendations that helped guide Canada’s original focus and investments in space technology. The Chapman Report also provided a practical plan that outlined how space can address the areas of greatest need for Canadians. Given our large geographic area and disperse population, satellite communications and remote sensing (including space-based earth observation) was, and still is, a practical and cost effective means to address Canada’s needs. As such, space technology has helped Canadians stay connected, coast to coast to coast, and has given us a higher vantage point to monitor our large country. In addition, research and development into space technology has provided us the Canadarm, an iconic symbol of Canada’s innovative and imaginative ability. 50-years have now passed since the launch of Aloutte-1 and Canada’s space program is at a crossroads. The global community has yet to chart a course for space exploration and NASA has ended its Space Shuttle program. India and China have entered the space arena with significant strides in rocketry, satellite manufacturing, human space flight and has set its targets on the Moon. The private sector in the USA has entered the arena providing its own space transportation systems (SpaceX), and is setting ambitious targets to mine space resources (Planetary Resources). -

During the accompanying literature study, it was determined that the technology readiness level is sufficiently high for upper stage reusability. However, it was unsure whether a cost-effective system could be build. I have been interested in the field of Entry, Descent, and Landing ever since I joined the Capsule Team of Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering (DARE). During my time within the team, it split up in the Structures Team and Recovery Team. In September 2016, I became Chief Recovery for the Stratos III student-built sounding rocket. During this time, I realised that there was a lack of fundamental knowledge in aerodynamic decelerators within DARE. -

Many different approaches towards realising a reusable rocket exist or are being proposed. This work focuses on the use of an optimisation method for conceptual design of non-winged reusable upper stages, thereby allowing it to take into account landing on land, sea or mid-air retrieval as well as landing the full stage or the engine only. As the optimisation criterion, the ratio of the specific launch cost of the reusable to the expendable version is used. The tool also provides for a Monte Carlo analysis, which allows for investigating the ruggedness of the design solution(s) found. The article will describe the methods implemented in the Conceptual Reusability Design Tool (CRDT) together with the modifications made to ParSim v3, a simulation tool by Delft Aerospace Rocket Engi- neering. Furthermore, it will present the steps taken to verify and validate CRDT. Finally, several example cases are presented based on the Atlas V-Centaur launch vehicle. The cases demonstrate the tools capa- bility of finding optimum and the sensitivity of the found optimum. The author reviews the state of art of nonrocket launch assistance systems (LASs) for spaceflight focusing on air launch options. The author proposes an alternative technologically feasible LAS based on a combination of approaches: air launch, high-altitude balloon, and tethered LAS. Proposed LAS can be implemented with the existing off-the-shelf hardware delivering 7 kg to low-earth orbit for the 5200 USD per kg.
