Friday was the official filing deadline for candi- dates and when the clock chimed noon, no others had filed the necessary paperwork to run for the office. Candidates had from May 9-13 to declare their inten- tions and file the appropriate documents. Goss, a Republican who is a former Sanibel City Councilman and mayor who also held a seat on the Lee County Commission - and served as the chair- man of that board, will continue to serve the 14th Congressional District, which encompasses Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. The only way Goss can lose the seat is if a candi- date wins election in a write-in campaign.To date, no one has indicated they would challenge the incum- bent in such a manner. People love to see young artists competing for a prize, exactly the same way everybody likes to see young athletes competing for an Olympic medal. This is a part of our human nature: we need to compare ourselves with others and we cherish the winners, giving them medals, money and fame … The question therefore is not to decide on the usefulness of music competitions, but to organise these events as well as possible in order to match the desires and the needs of young musicians and of the world of music. Today’s best music competitions are looking for artists capable of building a career for decades, able to present themselves to the media, who are open to new cultural initiatives, willing to experiment with new music and having inside themselves enough resources and energy to live the life of an international artist. This isn’t an easy task, but this is the mission of the WFIMC’s competitions. Ils ont décidé d’articuler cette fois leur programme autour de trois compositeurs romantiques, Dvořák (Chansons Tziganes), Schubert et Liszt, et d’un compositeur slovaque Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský. Très complices, Pavol Breslik et son pianiste Amir Katz se produisent ensemble en récital sur de nombreuses scènes dans un programme virtuose.
