JAMES KANG NEW ZEALAND DIPLOMA IN CONSTRUCTION STUDENT

Originally from Seoul, South Korea, James Kang was looking to pursue his interest in Quantity Surveying, but also live a quieter lifestyle.

James (whose Korean name is Seong Woo) served as Captain of an engineering company in the Republic of Korea Army. This gave him his first taste of quantity surveying and contract administration.

FLAVOUR OF CULTURES

UCOL celebrates the diversity of its students and graduates with the annual Flavour of Cultures event. This event is a vibrant and colourful celebration and gives those attending the event a feeling of being in another world with the sights, sounds and tastes on offer.

Last year, guests were entertained with Indian dancers, Chinese calligraphy and an array of craft stalls and cuisines.

UCOL wanted to celebrate the array of cultures represented on campus, as well as, in Manawatu-. With the event boasting audiences of several hundred people, there is something to delight everyone, from belly dancing, Irish dancers and a Japanese drum team. FLAVOUR OF Students coming to UCOL from overseas are encouraged to get involved, by doing something interactive around their culture, CULTURES or to come along as a guest and soak up the - FESTIVAL - atmosphere.

Flavour of Cultures happens around November each year, and local clubs and communities are asked how they would like to get involved. It is certainly a must see in the annual event calendar.

Denil Philip has come a long way, both geographically and professionally, from his home state of Kerala in Southern India.

Denil, who holds a Bachelor in Electronics and Biomedical Engineering from TKM Institute of Technology in Kerala, dreamed of visiting New Zealand and was excited to study here.
