Teaching

The University of Texas at Austin August 2017-May 2018. Teaching Assistant for freshman music theory and aural skills. The class focuses on fundamentals and diatonic harmony. Teaching three classes of 10 students twice per week. Responsible for daily lesson planning and preparation, leading all class meetings, grading, administrative work, and helping students outside of class. Supervisor: Dr. Byron Almén.

The University of Cincinnati August 2015-May 2016. Graduate Assistant for a graduate-level music analysis class. Responsible for grading, tracking attendance, assisting students outside of class, and occasional classroom teaching. Supervisors: Dr. Catherine Losada, William Ayers (PhD Candidate).

University of Alaska Fairbanks August 2012-April 2013. Graduate Teaching Assistant. Developed a 3-credit undergraduate course, “Fundamentals of Music.” Taught three days a week, graded daily assignments, and created the course calendar, half of the assignments, and all tests. Planned all class meetings and held weekly office hours. Supervisor: Dr. William Post. Self-Employment 2008-2016. Freelance and contracted pedagogical work, teaching music theory classes and private percussion and drum set lessons.

Professional Accomplishments and Service

—Recipient of a research fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin, 2016-2017 —Served on the development committee for the University of Cincinnati’s 2016 musical research conference. Our committee set the conference dates and schedule, developed the conference theme, selected two keynote speakers, and crafted the call for papers. —Served on the editorial board for the for the 2015 volume of Music Research Forum, the musicological journal of the University of Cincinnati. Responsible for blind reviewing of submitted original research and recommending articles for publication. —Review of Marilyn Nonken’s The Spectral Piano: From Liszt, Scriabin, and Debussy to the Digital Age published in the 2015 volume of Music Research Forum.
