Introduction

This report was created as a tool for ADHS staff to learn more about the counties in Arizona. We felt this was important since most staff interact with county health department partners as part of their job but often have limited prior knowledge about the state and its 15 counties.

Each of the 15 ‘county profiles’ found in the following pages contain:

 A summary of selected indicators for population demographics, economic activities and a list of major county landmarks.  A map showing the county, its health department and the main towns and hospitals, accompanied by a profile of the county including the seal, county seat, tribal reservations, county health department contact detail and web site, and a section showing selected health indicators.

The indicators used in each profile and their sources can be found together in a summary table at the end of the report useful for comparison across counties.

Some of the most remote areas exist in the White Mountains, where elk, bears, and deer live. Being a rural region, many people must improvise and make do with what’s available. It’s a very industrious community.”
