E. Recruitment Initiatives Implemented During the Reporting Period:

During the reporting period, personnel with substantial responsibility for hiring decisions at WBBR-AM participated in conventions, conferences, job fairs and recruitment events, including: 1) the National Black Journalist Association (“NABJ”) convention, August 2019 (also provided a $4,200 sponsorship); 2) the Asian American Journalist Association (“AAJA”) conference, July 2019; (also provided a $8,000 sponsorship) 3) the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (“NAHJ”) conference, September 2019 (also provided a $3,200 sponsorship) 4) the City Career Fair in Oakland, CA, January 2020 and 5) Choice Career Fairs in Washington, DC, January 2020. A variety of training programs are offered to enable WBBR-AM personnel to acquire news skills that could qualify them for higher level positions, including a variety of training programs in management, development, and the financial markets. In addition, WBBR-AM offers one-on- one mentoring and voice coaching. In October 2019, station management and Human Resources personnel received training from legal counsel about compliance with the Federal Communications Commission’s EEO rules. In March, May and October, 2019, a manager hosted seven tour groups for college and graduate students from the College Media Association, RIAS German Exchange program, Flinders University in Australia, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and the RIAS German Exchange program. The manager provided information about careers in radio, networking tools, radio studio operations, the business of radio, and journalism. In May 2019, a manager attended New York Market Radio (“NYMRAD”) Community Leaders Days at the Marriott Marquis in New York. At each event, approximately 14 community leaders from various nonprofit organizations discussed their views on matters of importance to the local community. We took these views into consideration when planning topics for shows.
