SCOUT CAMP SONGS

THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER Oh say can you see, by the dawn’s early light What so proudly we hailed, at the twilight’s last gleaming. Whose broad stripes & bright stars, through the perilous fight. O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air Gave proof throught the night that our flag was still there! Oh say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave? O’er the land of the freee, and the home of the Brave?

GOD BLESS AMERICA God bless America, land that I love. Stand beside her, and guide her. Through the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam. God bless America, My home, sweet, home God bless America, My home, sweet, home.

GOD BLESS MY UNDERWEAR God bless my underwear, my only pair. Stand beside them, and guide them, Through the rips, through the holes, through the tears. From the washer, to the dryer, to the clothesline in the air. God bless my underwear, my only pair.

AMERICA My country tis of thee Sweet land of liberty Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died Land of the Pilgrims’ pride, From ev’ry mountainside, Let freedom ring.

My native country thee Land of the noble free The name I love. I love thy rocks and rills Thy woods and templed hills; My heart with rapture thrills Like that above.

Our fathers God to Thee Author of liberty To thee we sing; Long may our land be bright, With freedom’s holy light Protect us by thy might, Great God, our King.

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND

Chorus: This land is your land, this land is my land From California to the New York island From the Redwood Forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me. 4

As I went walking that ribbon of highway. I saw above me that endless skyway. And I saw below me that golden valley This land was made for you and me I roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts. And all around me, a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me. Chorus When the sun comes shining, then I was strolling In the wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting This land was made for you and me. Chorus

He looked at me, I looked at him. He sized up me. I sized up him.

8 He says to me, Why don't you run? I see you ain't got any gun.

And so I ran, Away from there, But right behind Me ran that bear.

Ahead of me, There was a tree. A great big tree, Oh glory me!

The nearest branch, was 10 feet up. I'd have to jump And trust my luck.

And so I jumped, Into the air. But I missed that branch, Oh way up there!

Now don't you fret, Now don't you frown. Cuz I caught that branch, On the way back down.

That’s the end, There ain't no more. Unless I meet, That bear once more. Once more, once more!

A CAMPER’S WORST FEARS (Tune: My Favorite Things)

Raindrops on Cub Scouts and wet smelly gym socks Tents dark and crowded and sleeping on sharp rocks. These are a few of my favorite fears. Building a fire with wet wood and matches. Lighting the kindling that never quite catches. Tryin’ to endure the sarcasm and jeers These are a few of a camper’s worst fears. Chorus: When the food stinks, and my back kinks And my patience runs dry, I simply remember my snug bed at home And then I begin to cry.

Running to catch up, I fall down the hillside Piles of wet laundry that smells like a skunk died. 22 Listenin’ to night sounds that no one else hears, These are a few of a camper’s worst fears. Chorus Pond scum & algae in my swimming hole. Hot tempers flaring and washing dirty bowls. Blisters and rashes for me and my peers These are a few of a camper’s worst fears. Chorus

Ribbet, ribbet, ribbet, croak, croak. The frogs keep hopping on.

The frogs keep hopping on. Chorus They’ve hopped into the living room And headed down the hall. 24 They have trapped me in the corner And my back’s against the wall. Swingin' on a Star

Chorus Would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar, And be better off than you are? Or would you rather be a.. mule? A mule is an animal with long furry ears, He kicks up at anything he hears, His back is brawny and his brain is weak, He's just plain silly with a stubborn streak, And by the way, if you hate to go to school, you might grow up to be a mule. Chorus pig? A pig is an animal with dirt on his face, His shoes are a terrible disgrace. He's got no manners when he eats his food, He's fat and lazy and extremely rude, But if you don't care a feather or a fig, You may grow up to be a pig! Chorus fish? A fish won't do anything but swim in a brook, He can't write his name or read a book. To fool people is his only thought, and though he's slippery, he still gets caught, But then if that sort of life is what you wish, You may grow up to be a FISH! 26 And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo, Every day you meet quite a few, So you see it's all up to you, You can be better off than you are, You could be swinging on a star.

TAPS Day is done, Gone the Sun From the lake, from the hills, from the sky All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Fading light, dims the sight, And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright. From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night. Thanks and praise, for our days, 'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky; As we go, this we know, God is nigh. Sun has set, shadows come, Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds Always true to the promise that they made.

30 While the light fades from sight, And the stars gleaming rays softly send, To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

BUG JUICE (Tune: On Top of Old Smokey) At the camp with the Scouts, They gave us a drink. We thought it was kool-aid, because it was pink. But the thing that they told us, would've grossed out a moose, For that great tasting pink drink, was really bug juice. It looked fresh and fruity, like tasty kool-aid, But the bugs that were in it, were murdered with Raid. We drank it by gallons, we drank it by tons, And the next morning, we all had the runs. So the next time you drink bug juice, and a fly drives you mad, He's just getting even, 'Cause you swallowed his Dad'.

WADDLEY-ACHA Ohhh, Waddley-acha, Waddley-acha 31 Doodley doo, doodley doo Waddley-acha, Waddley-acha Doodley doo, doodley doo Simplest thing there’s nothing much to it. All you gotta do is doodley do it. I like the rest but the part I like best goes Doodley, doodley, doodley doo, beep beep!
