PRE-RELEASE BROCHURE 2020 OUTBACKSPIRITTOURS.COM.AU

Welcome to Arnhem Land

Only Spirit can take you through the heart of this sacred and mystical .

Stretching from the border of Kakadu to the shores of the Gulf, Arnhem Land is a vast and spectacular area that few people have ever stepped foot in. Declared an Aboriginal Reserve in 1931, Arnhem Land has been inhabited by Aboriginal people for more than 60,000 years. Their culture is regarded as the oldest surviving culture in human history. Ancient ceremonies and traditions are still widely practiced today and revolve around a complex system of kinship and deep connection to country. For most of our guests, learning about Aboriginal culture has been a highlight of their adventure. Outback Spirit’s Arnhem Land Wilderness Adventure is completely exclusive. No other tour company can take you on a journey through the heart of this spellbinding area. To make the journey possible, Outback Spirit has invested over $17 million on three extraordinary wilderness lodges along the journey. Perfectly positioned in spectacular locations, each lodge allows you to truly immerse yourself in the incredible environment and culture of Arnhem Land. If you’ve ever looked at a map and dreamt about what lies beyond the Arnhem Land border, here’s your chance. A journey of discovery awaits. We hope you’ll join us.

Discover the world’s oldest culture

The vast region of Arnhem Land is richly endowed with a culture that is more than 60,000 years old, making it the oldest surviving culture in human history.

During that time, Aboriginal people developed a sophisticated belief system and an understanding of the environment that is second to none. Trading and intermarrying with the Macassans of Indonesia dates as far back as the 1400’s, and ceremonies that are thousands of years old are still widely practiced in Arnhem Land today. An important part of our Arnhem Land Wilderness Adventure is to understand the deep connection that Aboriginal people have with their country. In certain locations you’ll learn about this from Aboriginal guides and Traditional Owners, who’ll give you a fascinating insight into their laws and culture, and share their Dreamtime stories. Arnhem Land is Aboriginal Land, and it’s truly a privilege to be able to visit this sacred region.

An exclusive journey

Outback Spirit is the only tour operator able to travel through the heart of this sacred and mystical region.

The spectacular region of Arnhem Land is a place that few people have ever been. For many, it’s one of the last corners of the country they’re yet to explore. After extensive consultation with Traditional Owners and the Northern Land Council, Outback Spirit launched an all new adventure through Arnhem Land in 2016. The journey we put together is totally unique, offering a true immersion into Arnhem Land’s incredible wilderness and ancient culture. Travelling through the heart of this sacred region is a life changing experience, and Outback Spirit is the only tour operator with permission to do so. Access to Arnhem Land is tightly controlled via a permit system, and everyone must have a permit to enter from the Northern Land Council. This is arranged by Outback Spirit on your behalf.
