At the very moment one of the most significant cultural exchanges of the decade was registered in Australian Society at large, the term corroboree became increasingly so associated with kitsch and the inauthentic it was erased as a useful descriptor, only to be reclaimed almost fifty years later. Corroboree became the bastard notion par excellence imbued with “in- authenticity.” It was such a popularly known term, that it stood as a generic brand for anything dinky-di Australian. Keywords to Remember 9. Other Protocol Resource Documents 2 What Are Protocols? Protocols can be classified as a set of rules, regulations, processes, procedures, strategies, or guidelines. Protocols are simply the ways in which you work with people, and communicate and collaborate with them appropriately. They are a guide to assist you with ways in which you can work, communicate and collaborate with the Indigenous community of Western Sydney. A wealth of Indigenous protocols documentation already exists (see Section 9), but to date the practice of following them is not widespread. Protocols are also standards of behaviour, respect and knowledge that need to be adopted. You might even think of them as a code of manners to observe, rather than a set of rules to obey. -

It is the first Indigenous owned and operated bauxite mine. 3. Gulkula Regional Training Centre & Garma Festival The Gulkula Regional training is adjacent to the mine and provides young Yolngu men and women training across a wide range of industry sectors. These include; extraction (mining), civil construction, building construction, hospitality and administration. This is also where Garma Festival is hosted partnering with Yothu Yindi Foundation. 4. Space Base The Arnhem Space Centre will be Australia’s first commercial spaceport. The painting Bush Tomato Dreaming (1998), by the Anmatyerre artist Lucy Ngwarai Kunoth serves as model case for my argument that art expresses existential social knowledge. In consequence, I will argue that social theory and art theory together provide tools for intercultural understanding and competence. Keywords: Indigenous Australian art and social theory. Introduction Indigenous Australian artworks sell well on national and international art markets. Artists like Emily Kngwarreye, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Kathleen Petyarre are renowned representatives of what has become an exquisite art movement with international appreciation. Indigenous art is currently the strongest sector of Australia's art industry, with around 6,000 artists producing art and craft works with an estimated value of more than A$300 million a year. (Senate Committee, 2007: 9-10) At a major Indigenous art auction held in Melbourne in 2000, Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula's famous painting Water Dreaming at Kalipinypa was sold for a record price of A$ 486,500. Three years before, it was auctioned for A$ 206,000. What did Johnny W. Tjupurrula receive? – just A$ 150 when he sold that painting in 1972. (The Courier Mail, 29 July 2000) The Süddeutsche Zeitung (06 September 2005) reports that Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri received A$ 100 for his painting Emu Corroboree Man in 1972. -

Institutionalisation of Aborigines, under the guise of assimilation and protection policies, was only abandoned in.the lg7Os. It is therefore important to understand the implications of these policies for Aborigines and Australian society in general. I investigate the affect of institutionalisation on Aborigines, questioning the assumption tl.at they were passive victims forced onto missions and government stations and kept there as virtual prisoners. -

Northern Territory Government Response to the Joint Standing Committee on Migration – Inquiry into Migrant Settlement outcomes. Introduction: The Northern Territory Government is responding to an invitation from the Joint Standing Committee on Migration’s inquiry into migrant settlement outcomes. The Northern Territory Government agencies will continue to support migrants, including humanitarian entrants through health, education, housing and interpreting and translating services and programs. The Northern Territory Government acknowledges the important role all migrants play in our society and recognises the benefits of effective programs and services for enhanced settlement outcomes. The following information provides details on these programs that support the settlement of the Northern Territory’s migrant community. 1. Northern Territory Government support programs for Humanitarian Entrants Department of Health The Northern Territory Primary Health Network was funded by the Department of Health to undertake a review of the Refugee Health Program in the Northern Territory. The review informed strategic planning and development of the Refugee Health Program in the Northern Territory prior to the development of a tender for provision of these services. The primary objectives of the Program were to ensure: increased value for money; culturally safe and appropriate services; greater coordination across all refugee service providers; clinically sound services; improved health literacy for refugees; and flexibility around ebbs and flows
