LAND OFF MAULDEN ROAD FLITWICK TRANSPORTATION TECHNICAL NOTE August 2017 GBR/KM/E/17968/B5 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 This Transportation Technical Note (TTN) has been prepared by Woods Hardwick Infrastructure LLP on behalf of Pigeon Investment Management Ltd in support of their proposal to develop land to the east of Maulden Road, Flitwick. 1.2 The site comprises approximately 20.5 ha and is located to the east of Flitwick. The site is abutted by: agricultural land to the north; Flitwick Moor and Folly Wood to the east; Greenfield Road to the south. The southern section of the western boundary is abutted by existing residential properties beyond which lies Maulden Road, while the northern section of the western boundary is abutted by Maulden Road itself. A Site Location Plan is included as Appendix A. 1.3 The proposed development on the site comprises up to 200 residential units, a health and social care hub and a mixed use employment development. The developer is aware that Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) are currently consulting on the future development of Flitwick Town Centre. CBC’s consultation Report on the regeneration notes that there is a shortfall in retail/service units within Flitwick, Pigeon Investment Management Ltd would be pleased to assist in contributing to the regeneration of the town by liaising with CBC to bring forward the most appropriate employment uses on this site. 1.4 It is proposed that the main vehicular access to the site is taken off Maulden Road, potentially via a new 4-arm roundabout that incorporates the existing access to the Industrial Estate on the opposite side of Maulden Road. -

OPEN DAILY APRIL TO AUGUST 2019 Welcome... to the 10th Annual Bedfordshire Walking Festival Few would have thought the Bedfordshire walking festival would still be taking place ten years on and in a county most people seem to ignore. True it may not be the Cotswolds nor the South Downs but Bedfordshire is a compact county with three distinctive types of walking. The Chalk Hills in the south, the picturesque, wooded undulating area in the middle referred to as the Greensand Country, and a mixture of woodland and the open space in the undulating "Wolds" of the north. Located in England's driest region, this attractive county is a great place to explore on foot and so easy to get to by road, rail, air and water as many have already found. Combine with a great range of walks. led by knowledgeable and friendly leaders, and it becomes easy to see how the festival has grown and grown. To mark the 10th anniversary, and in addition to walks across the county, we have set up Hub's at Woburn, Bedford's Priory Park and Ampthill Park on three of the nine days from where walks will start and from where walking relative information can be obtained. This report relates to a Key Decision Purpose of this report 1. To seek Executive agreement on the recommended delivery approach for the regeneration of Flitwick station site and car park with approval to undertake the required procurement process to identify and secure a development partner on the best financial terms possible. RECOMMENDATIONS The Executive is asked: 1. to note the progress made towards enabling the regeneration of Flitwick Station site and car park since this matter was last considered by the Executive in April 2017, including: Preparation of provisional Heads of Terms with a major retail anchor for the scheme. The completion of a public consultation exercise between the 31st July and the 13th September which has demonstrated broad support for the scheme objectives and priorities as set out in the April 2017 Executive report. The preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding with Network Rail and Govia Thameslink Railways Ltd for the purpose of supporting partnership work towards scheme delivery. Commencement of detailed design work for the Transport Interchange as funded by Network Rail’s National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP). The further refinement and improvement of the draft concept scheme based on the market view of proposed uses including testing of likely construction costs and revenue generating potential. -

Canadian Booklet 2
Ampthill & District Archaeological & Local History Society. 2001. It is eighty-three years since the armistice of “The War to End All Wars” and the dream of perpetual peace has yet to come true. “Lest we forget” is as relevant today as it ever was. Ampthill was a training ground for many troops in the 1914-1918 war and again in the 1939-1945 conflict. The scars of both wars can still be found in the Ampthill landscape but the greatest change by far was to Coopers Hill, still known affectionately by local people as “The Firs” even though there is hardly a fir tree to be seen. We all know that the trees were cut down in the first World War to send to France for “use in the trenches”. Tradition has it that the trees were cut down too late for the war effort and got no further than Ampthill railway station. This, always an unlikely story, and a number of other myths have been discredited with the discovery of a booklet about the 126th. Company of the Canadian Forestry Corps. The Canadians were specially drafted to Ampthill to cut down the trees and prepare them for dispatch to France. This Society has been researching the effects of war in the locality and is very impressed with the booklet. Rather than try to rewrite the information we consider the original text should be available to all who are interested in the history of our town, so we have copied it as faithfully as we can as a tribute to the people of Ampthill who saw their beloved trees cut down and to their Canadian allies who performed the act.
