Marshall This thesis has two parts. The first part investigates the relationships between the Archiceroptera genus complex and other members of the Limosininae (Diptera: Sphaeroceridae). A focus is placed on the relationships within the larger epandrial process group, which contains Bitheca, Bromeloecia, Pterogramma, Aptilotella, and Robustagramma, along with Archiceroptera, Rudolfina and several previously unplaced species groups. Molecular and morphological data sets provide the first phylogeny of the group, and were used to support the inclusion of several unplaced species groups within Rudolfina and Archiceroptera, while one new genus is described. Pectinosina gen. nov. includes two species: P. prominens (Duda), previously placed in Rudolfina, and P. carro n. sp. The second part of the thesis deals with revisions of Archiceroptera Papp and Rudolfina Roháček. Rudolfina now includes 13 described species, nine of which are newly described here (R. bucki, R. exuberata, R. howdeni, R. megepandria, R. pauca, R. pilosa, R. newtoni, R. remiforma, and R. tumida). [email protected] and [email protected] ABSTRACT — A new species of Eutrachytes (Eutrachytes flagellatus) is described based on a complete ontogenetic series, starting from larva and including the adult female and male. This Uropodina mite was isolated from the pneumatophore surface of Avicennia officinalis having algal (Bostryschia sp.) growth in Goa, India. Notable morphological attributes pecu- liar to immature instars of this species include a flagellate tubular dorsolateral respiratory structure extending from the peritreme, nude pygidial shields in the adult male and female and a deep concave formation at the posterolateral margins of the dorsal shield. A taxonomic discussion with salient diagnostic features of the genus is given and a key to genera of the family is pre- sented. We present two nomenclature modifications: Deraiophoridae syn. nov. as the junior synonym of Eutrachytidae and Den- tibaiulus Hirschmann, 1979 syn. nov. as a junior synonym of Eutrachytes Berlese, 1914. A compiled list of all new species discovered to date from mangrove roots in different parts of the world is given. -

The Hungarian acarological literature from 1801 to 2010, excluding medical sciences (e.g. epidemiological, clinical acarology) is reviewed. Altogether 1500 articles by 437 authors are included. The publications gathered are presented according to authors listed alphabetically. The layout follows the references of the paper of Horváth as appeared in the Folia entomologica hungarica in 2004. INTRODUCTION The primary aim of our compilation was to show all the (scientific) works of Hungarian aca- he acarological literature attached to Hungary rologists published in foreign languages. The majority of articles concern ecology (36%), taxonomy (23%), faunistics (18%) and the bee- mite Varroa (4%). Please help us keep the literature database as complete as possible by sending us reprints or copies of all your papers on mesostigmatic mites, or, if this is not possible, complete refer- ences so that we can include them in the list. Marshall The genus Aptilotella Duda (Diptera: Sphaeroceridae: Limosininae) is redefined and revised. The type species, Aptilotella borgmeieri Duda is redescribed, and twenty-one species are described as new: Aptilotella andersoni, A. angela, A. caerulea, A. corona, A. diffisa, A. ebenea, A. gemmula, A. germana, A. gloriosa, A. gracilis, A. involucris, A. macula, A. pennifera, A. pichinchensis, A. pyropanda, A. quadrata, A. quatuorchela, A. radians, A. sphyra, A. umbracatus, and A. vivus. A phylogenetic analysis and key to species are presented, with illustrations and notes on distribution. E-mail [email protected] Abstract This paper provides details of 300 genus-group names in the suborder Uropodina, including the superfamilies Microgynioidea, Thinozerconoidea, Uropodoidea, and Diarthrophalloidea. For each name, the information provided includes a reference to the original description of the genus, the type species and its method of designation, and details of nomenclatural and taxonomic anomalies where necessary. Twenty of these names are excluded from use because they are nomina nuda, junior homonyms, or objective junior synonyms. The remaining 280 available names appear to include a very high level of subjective synonymy, which will need to be resolved in a future comprehensive revision of the Uropodina. Key words: Acari, Mesostigmata, Uropodina, generic names, type species Introduction Mites in the Suborder Uropodina are very abundant in forest litter, but can also be found in large numbers in moss, under stones, in ant nests, in the nests and burrows made by vertebrates, and in dung and carrion. Most appear to be predators that feed on nematodes or other small invertebrates, but others may feed on living and dead fungi and plant tissue (Lindquist et al., 2009). -

The taxonomy and nomenclature of the family Sphaeroceridae (Dipte- ra: Acalyptratae) is reviewed in the context of a world catalog and bibliography covering the last decade (2000–2010). Bispinicerca Su & Liu, 2009, syn. nov., is synonymized with Opacifrons Duda, 1918 and the following new combinations are given: Opacifrons liupanensis (Su & Liu, 2009), comb. nov., Pseudopterogram- ma annectens (Richards, 1964), comb. nov., Pseudopterogramma brevivenosum (Tenorio, 1967), comb. nov., and Pseudopterogramma conicum (Richards, 1946), comb. nov. Thirty genera and 211 species were added to the family between 2000 and 2010, giving a current total of 141 genera and 1,550 species. A gallery with 32 macrophotographs is provided, depicting 32 species of 30 genera represen- ting 3 subfamilies of Sphaeroceridae. A world bibliography of Sphaeroceridae is supplemented with 306 references. Key words.
