[email protected] and [email protected] ABSTRACT — A new species of Eutrachytes (Eutrachytes flagellatus) is described based on a complete ontogenetic series, starting from larva and including the adult female and male. This Uropodina mite was isolated from the pneumatophore surface of Avicennia officinalis having algal (Bostryschia sp.) growth in Goa, India. Notable morphological attributes pecu- liar to immature instars of this species include a flagellate tubular dorsolateral respiratory structure extending from the peritreme, nude pygidial shields in the adult male and female and a deep concave formation at the posterolateral margins of the dorsal shield. A taxonomic discussion with salient diagnostic features of the genus is given and a key to genera of the family is pre- sented. We present two nomenclature modifications: Deraiophoridae syn. nov. as the junior synonym of Eutrachytidae and Den- tibaiulus Hirschmann, 1979 syn. nov. as a junior synonym of Eutrachytes Berlese, 1914. A compiled list of all new species discovered to date from mangrove roots in different parts of the world is given. -

The Hungarian acarological literature from 1801 to 2010, excluding medical sciences (e.g. epidemiological, clinical acarology) is reviewed. Altogether 1500 articles by 437 authors are included. The publications gathered are presented according to authors listed alphabetically. The layout follows the references of the paper of Horváth as appeared in the Folia entomologica hungarica in 2004. INTRODUCTION The primary aim of our compilation was to show all the (scientific) works of Hungarian aca- he acarological literature attached to Hungary rologists published in foreign languages. E-mail [email protected] Abstract This paper provides details of 300 genus-group names in the suborder Uropodina, including the superfamilies Microgynioidea, Thinozerconoidea, Uropodoidea, and Diarthrophalloidea. For each name, the information provided includes a reference to the original description of the genus, the type species and its method of designation, and details of nomenclatural and taxonomic anomalies where necessary. Twenty of these names are excluded from use because they are nomina nuda, junior homonyms, or objective junior synonyms. The remaining 280 available names appear to include a very high level of subjective synonymy, which will need to be resolved in a future comprehensive revision of the Uropodina. Key words: Acari, Mesostigmata, Uropodina, generic names, type species Introduction Mites in the Suborder Uropodina are very abundant in forest litter, but can also be found in large numbers in moss, under stones, in ant nests, in the nests and burrows made by vertebrates, and in dung and carrion. Most appear to be predators that feed on nematodes or other small invertebrates, but others may feed on living and dead fungi and plant tissue (Lindquist et al., 2009). -

Abstract Because of their recent terrestrial ancestry, secondary marine organisms usually differ from primary marine organisms in life history and physiological traits. Intuitively, the traits of secondary marine organisms constrain distribution, thus making these organisms interesting subjects for comparative investigation on ecological and biogeographical theory. A primary objective of the studies presented here was to improve our current knowledge and understanding of the generally poorly known secondary marine arthropods (e.g. mites and insects). An additional objective was to outline relationships between ancestry, ecology, and biogeography of small-bodied, benthic marine arthropods. -

A TREATISE ON THE ACARINA, OR MITES. By Nathan Banks, Custodian of Aradnvda. PREFACE. The mites have alwa\'.s attracted consideral)le interest, both from their minute size and because of the remarkable habits of man}^ spe- cies. Ahhough many have examined them in a desultor}^ way, Init few have really studied them. Consequently there is a great amount of literature by many persons, much of which is not reliable. Too often entomologists have considered that their knowledge of insects in general was a sufficient l^asis for the description of mites. Prob- ably the lack of general works on mites has been responsible for many errors. For years the only work treating of the mites as a whole that has been accessible to American naturalists is Andrew Murray's Economic Entomology; Aptera. In this ))ook, nearly 3()0 pages are devoted to Acarina. Unfortunately Murray's treatment is far from satisfactory and abundantly stored with mistakes, many, however, taken from other writers. Since that book was published several European specialists have been at work on the European fauna and produced monographs which are of great accuracv. Not only have many new facts been discovered, l)ut many of the old facts have ])een given quite new interpretations. Such a belief as the parasitism of the Uropoda on the Colorado potato- beetle seems hardly as yet to have been eradicated. To present a reli- able text to the Aujerican reader is my intention. Very frequently I have obtained many facts of importance and interest from the European literature; particularly is this true with those parasitic groups with which 1 am not so well acquainted. -
A Red List of Mites from the Suborder Uropodina (Acari: Parasitiformes) in Poland

Evaluation of the conservation status of the analyzed spe‑ cies was compiled on the basis of new criteria, which may also be applied to other groups of soil fauna. The authors employ the names of categories proposed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). One of our aims was to review the IUCN cri‑ teria to ascertain whether they are applicable in an attempt to assess the danger of extinc‑ tion of soil invertebrates, and to see whether the criteria can be adapted to make such an assessment. The analyzed material contained 93 mite species obtained from 16,921 soil samples, which were collected between 1961 and 2017 in the whole area of Poland. The categories were assigned to species on the basis of the frequency of the species, but also other factors were taken into account, such as microhabitat specifcity, vulnerability to det‑ rimental conditions, and shrinking of local populations. One of the analyzed species can now be regarded as extinct, over 25% of the species (26 spp.) were labeled as critically endangered, and most of them (33 spp.) were categorized as vulnerable—the other species were assigned to the categories endangered (13 spp.), near threatened (10 spp.), and least concern (10 spp.). -

Box 102, Hun- gary. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new genus Trachyibana gen. nov. is described and illustrated on the basis of Trachyibana sarawakiensis sp. nov. from Malaysia. The new genus belongs to the family Trachyuropodidae, on the basis of its fringed internal malae, the T-shaped dorsal setae and the position of hypostomal setae h3 (lateral to h1-h2-h4). The new genus differs from the other tra- chyuropodid genera and species by its lemon-shaped idiosoma, the presence of deep opisthogastric ventral furrows, and the absence of strongly sclerotised dorsal structures. Key words: Acari, Mesostigmata, Uropodina, new genus, new species, Borneo Introduction The family Trachyuropodidae was erected by Berlese (1917), who also described several genera belonging to this family. Later Hirschmann (1961) revised the group and reduced the number of genera to two. The species with a strongly sclerotised dorsum were placed in the genus Trachyuropoda Berlese, 1888, while those without strongly sclerotised dorsal structures were placed in Oplitis Berlese, 1884. Subsequently, Hirschmann (1976) subdivided these two genera into species-groups, but in his later revised classification these species-groups were considered as genera (Hirschmann, 1979).
