The increase in various mining activities has lead to the exploitation of these indigenous populations, which are for commercial gain at the cost of the livelihood of these people. Every sustainable model of development should aim at the indigenous people having rights over their land and the improvement of their livelihood. The Constitution of India, 1950, and various other welfare legislations been enacted for protection of these tribal populations from being exploited, and they deserve the same rights and respect as any other person in the society. The industrial development and urbanization process has been the cause of the destruction of major portions of the forests throughout the world. Mining activities are one of the activities which causes threat to enviorment as well as promotes economic development of the country which can lead to a negative impact on the forest, ecology, environment and the people living residing near such activities. These adverse impacts on the people and the environment can be prevented by following proper mechanisms and taking necessary precautionary measures.1 There have been various instances where mining activities have bypassed the various provisions of law as it takes place in remote places where it is impossible to keep a track if 10 hectares of land is permitted and the concerned industry uses 15 hectares of land and damages further 5hectares. Many people have been forcefully displaced from their land and have been shifted to other places, especially the forest dwellers, and the tribal population has been highly affected by such mining activities. These displacement processes not only take away the land from the tribal people but also affect their health, education, and economic status by forcing them to other places where they have no means of livelihood. The tribal groups in India have been under the constant fight for protecting their rights against the development schemes, which affect their livelihood and force them to be displaced. The Orissa Mining Corporation2 case has not only protected the rights of the tribal community but the Court also portrayed that development projects which are a platform for major employment opportunities for many people cannot be implemented by disregarding the rights of the tribal communities and the forest dwellers who mainly depend on the forests for their daily livelihood.This judgment was a landmark case after which the Indian Judiciary has evolved its approach to uphold the rights of the forest dwellers and protect them from unjust encroachment of their land and livelihood. THE RIGHTS OF THE FOREST DWELLERS ‘Tribe’ is, in its common meaning, means the people of a social group living in primitive conditions in a fixed territory. They are the people who reside in the forests since the primitive ages and continue living there in modern society3. Forest dwellers are these tribal people who live in the forest land and depend on the forest products for their livelihood. They are considered to be a part of the forest itself as they are adapted in the various conditions of the forests. There are still various incidents where many indigenous communities are at the risk of being evicted without a necessary rehabilitation scheme being implemented. The legislative schemes,in many instances, have not beenable to protect the tribal community from large corporations that attempt to amass control over the collective resources of these tribal people and often end up destroying their life support system in the process. Article 366 (25) of The Constitution of India, 1950, states that Scheduled Tribes are the people of the tribes or the tribal groups, as mentioned under Article 242, and Article 242 states that these are the tribes as declared by the President by the issuance of a public notification. Post- independence various legislations have been enacted to empower the Indian tribal group and upholding their rights like the Scheduled Tribes and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 (hereinafter referred to as the “FRA”) and the panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas (hereinafterreferred to as the “PESA”) Act, 1996. 2.   • The Hostile Spouse Is Almost Exclusively a Female Phenomenon
    A Literal Death Sentence One unpleasant issue in cryonics is the "hostile wife" phenomenon. The authors of this article know of a number of high profile cryonicists who need to hide their cryonics activities from their wives and ex-high profile cryonicists who had to choose between cryonics and their relationship. We also know of men who would like to make cryonics arrangements but have not been able to do so because of resistance from their wives or girlfriends. In such cases, the female partner can be described as nothing less than hostile toward cryonics. As a result, these men face certain death as a consequence of their partner's hostility. While it is not unusual for any two people to have differing points of view regarding cryonics, men are more interested in making cryonics arrangements. A recent membership update from the Alcor Life Extension Foundation reports that 667 males and 198 females have made cryonics arrangements. Although no formal data are available, it is common knowledge that a substantial number of these female cryonicists signed up after being persuaded by their husbands or boyfriends. For whatever reason, males are more interested in cryonics than females. These issues raise an obvious question: are women more hostile to cryonics than men? There is no direct answer to this question since the requisite data have not been collected. However, both the gravity and magnitude of the problem, as we are about to detail, suggests this as a fertile, if not urgent, area for future research. One consequence of men being more interested in cryonics than women is that heterosexual men are more often faced with hostile wives and girlfriends than the other way round.

Legal Implications of Cryonics Daniel R. Spector* C RYOGENICS IS THE SCIENCE that deals with the production of very low temperatures and their effect on the properties of matter. The visual aspects of experiments in this field are fascinating. The practical aspects seem, at first glance, to be of considerably less consequence. However, this feeling of indifference does not arise as we ponder the ramifications of freezing one class of inanimate objects: dead human bodies. This is the realm of a more specific and indeed very new branch of cryogenics, namely, cryonics. The term cryonics was first used less than 3 years ago by an indus- trial designer and one-time Vice President of the Cryonics Society of New York, named Karl Werner. Cryogenics is the broad term. Cryo- biology deals with the effects of low temperatures on living material gen- erally. Finally, cryonics focuses on human living material and how hu- man bodies can be frozen and thus preserved until a cure for the cause of death can be found.1 Mr.

    STABILIZATION AND TRANSPORT CASE REPORT Patient: Cryonics Institute Member 165, Patient 95 Date: June 25, 2009 Location: Albany, New York Report prepared by: Catherine Baldwin, Standby Team Leader. INTRODUCTION On June 20, 2009, cryonics pioneer, Cryonics Institute (CI) member and Suspended Animation (SA) client, Curtis Henderson (CI-95) was admitted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. After consulting with family and physicians, a team from SA was deployed to standby in Albany on June 21. June 25, Curtis was pronounced legally dead at the Albany Medical Center and was subsequently stabilized and transported to Michigan by the team from SA. The team’s activities and data collected are reported below, followed by a brief timeline. Case issues and corrective actions follow that. MEDICAL BACKGROUND The patient was an 82-year old Caucasian male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds. He had a history of heart disease and hypertension. He suffered a stroke and had a pacemaker implanted in the year 2000. The pacemaker was replaced in April 2007. His daily medications prior to admission included: Coumaden (warfarin), 2mg x3 q.h.s. Furosemide (Lasix) 40mg x1 q.a.m. Digitek (Lanoxin) 125mg x1 q.a.m. Cartia XT 240mg x1 q.d Sotalol HCl 320mg x1 b.i.d One month before his hospitalization, he was active and ambulatory. HOSPITAL ADMISSION June 7, while visiting his son in New York, the patient complained of pressure and discomfort in his abdomen. He was taken to Kingston Hospital emergency room.
