Znam da svi oni koji boqe od mene poznaju srpsku kwiževnost mogu da kažu da postoji nekoliko dobrih antologija srpske lirike (Popovićeva ili Pavlovićeva, na primer), ali da niko do danas još nije napravio hvale vrednu antologiju srpske pripovetke (ili proze). A pripovetka pisana srpskim jezikom je, od sredine prošlog do kraja ovog krvavog veka, možda i najžilaviji žanr u našoj lepoj kwiževnosti. Svi najznaèajniji srpski prozni pisci pisali su i pripovetke. A među wima ima i onih koji su jedino prièe pisali (Laza Lazarević, Grigorije Božović ili Veqko Petrović, na primer). U ovom veku najviše ipak ima onih koji su, posle prvih znaèajnih pripovedaèkih kwiga (Miodrag Bulatović, Antonije Isaković ili Danilo Nikolić, na primer), okrenuli se romanu, „velikoj maturi“ svake kwiževnosti. „Pripovedačka umetnost je što i kamerna muzika, zbijena sinteza, i lirike i dramatike i epskog prikazivawa...“, kazao je jedan pisac. Zbog toga je u svakoj kwiževnosti (pa i srpskoj) jedan od najtežih zadataka: napisati dobru pripovetku. MIROSLAV JOSIÆ VIŠWIÆ 11 Mnogi kritièari i teoretièari proricali su smrt pripovetke, pisali o sumraku wenom, ali bilo je i mudrih, temeqnih i lucidnih tumaèa koji su najavqivali procvat i prevlast pripovedaèke umetnosti. Obiènim èitaocima, a takvih najviše ima na svetu, pripovetka je oduvek bila privlaènija od romana, od drame, pa èak i od poezije. Pripovetka je, kaže tzv. nauka o kwiževnosti, „izraziti tip fabulativne proze“, „sredwa prozna pripovedna forma“ koju je „teško definisati“. Ona je „kwiževni oblik koji po svojim karakteristikama stoji između narodne pripovetke, sa jedne, i novele i romana, sa druge strane“. U woj je sve podređeno zanimqivoj fabuli, događaju u kojem je piščeva pažwa usmerena najčešće na jednog junaka, jednog pripovedaèa. A nisu od malog znaèaja ni jezik pripovedawa, ni melodija. (Gotovo do juèe kod nas su mnoge prozne kwige imale podnaslov „pripovetka“, èak i kad je bez dvoumqewa reè o romanima, o kwigama sa više stotina stranica. A u savremenom dobu su neke pripovetke dobile odrednicu „roman“.) Sve podele i grupisawa pripovedaka su mehanièke i vankwiževne. Za vrednost jedne prièe nije od presudnog znaèaja da li je ona seoska, urbana, društvena, psihološka, istorijska, qubavna, omladinska, fantastièna, stvarnosna, postmoderna, kratka, realistièka... itd. Za sto pedeset godina, vreme koje pokriva ova kwiga, srpska pripovetka imala je tri bremenita i plodna perioda, tri „zlatna doba“: 1. posledwa èetvrtina prošlog veka, 2. prva decenija posle Velikog rata, i 3. sedma i osma decenija ovoga veka. F SADRŽAJ 12 ANTOLOGIJA SRPSKIH PRIPOVEDAÈA (Prve dve decenije od tog stoleća i po srpska pripovetka je lutala u romantiènim i pouèitelnim maglama, a posledwe dve decenije još traže svoje vodeće, čelne pisce.) Dve trećine pripovedaka u ovom izboru napisano je i objavqeno u ta tri zlatna talasa, u tih šezdesetak burnih pripovedačkih godina. 2. Prvo zlatno doba dalo nam je èitavu plejadu vrhunskih pripovedaèa, pisaca koji su postavili temeq i tradicionalne i moderne srpske pripovetke, bez kojih nije moguće ni zamisliti srpsku kwiževnost. Najistaknutiji su „otac srpskog romana“ Jakov Igwatović, „osnivač realistièke pripovetke“ Milovan Glišić, „tvorac srpske psihološke pripovetke“ Laza Lazarević, „majstor pripovedač“ Simo Matavuq i „patrijarh srpske proze“ Stevan Sremac. Ali nije mali udeo ni pisaca iz nešto ranijeg perioda, kakvi su Stjepan Mitrov Qubiša, Bogoboj Atanacković ili Jovan Grčić Milenko, kao ni pripovedaèkih majstora formata jednog Janka Veselinovića, Dragutina Ilića, Svetolika Rankovića, Radoja Domanovića ili Ilije Vukićevića. Na kraju toga doba javqa se pravi gorostas, Borisav Stanković, pisac najskladnije i najpotresnije kwige proznih portreta (Božji qudi), a pored wega još i Ivo Æipiko, Svetozar Ćorović i Petar Kočić. F SADRŽAJ MIROSLAV JOSIÆ VIŠWIÆ 13 U drugom dobu, odmah posle Velikog rata, punim dahom nastavqaju da pišu Grigorije Božović, pripovedaè rudarskog kova, streqan i zabrawen posle Drugog svetskog rata, i Veqko Petrović, pisac sa obe noge na zemqi, a na velika vrata ulaze u srpsku kwiževnost pisci razlièitih poetika: naš budući, prvi i jedini Nobelovac, pripovedaè širokih vidika Ivo Andrić, pesnik i prozni klasik Miloš Crwanski, razapet između Stražilova i Hiperboreje, gurnut u emigraciju gotovo èetvrt veka, i Dragiša Vasić, pisac dekretom izbrisan iz srpske kwiževnosti posle komunistièkog ustolièewa na vlasti. Ali tu su i znaèajni pisci bez kojih treća decenija ne bi imala zlatnu propovedaèku auru: Rastko Petrović, Momèilo Nastasijević, Stanislav Krakov i Stanislav Vinaver. (Kao što istom tom pripovedaèkom krugu pripadaju još i pisci kakvi su Isidora Sekulić, Milan Kašanin ili Branimir Ćosić.) Dolazak trećeg doba najavio je Miodrag Bulatović, prozom tzv. „fantastičnog realizma“, ali znaèaj u najavi prave poplave vrhunskih pripovedaèa on deli sa Antonijem Isakovićem, Vladanom Desnicom, Slobodanom Xunićem, Mihailom Lalićem, Brankom Ćopićem, Vojom Čolanovićem ili Miodragom Borisavqevićem. U trećem dobu punu zrelost postižu pripovedaèi nekoliko generacija i razlièitih poetièkih usmerewa, a u prvom krugu su pripovedaè „qudske patwe i milosti“ Dragoslav Mihailović, pisac „baršunaste“ i „enciklopedijske“ mašte Danilo Kiš i èelnik „stvarnosne proze“, „proze F SADRŽAJ 14 ANTOLOGIJA SRPSKIH PRIPOVEDAÈA novog stila“ Vidosav Stevanović. A znaèajne i zanosne kwige, sa antologijskim prièama, objavquju u toj trećoj zlatnoj pripovedaèkoj oluji pisci kakvi su: Boško Petrović, Momèilo Milankov, Aleksandar Tišma, Danilo Nikolić, Pavle Ugrinov, Milorad Pavić, Borislav Pekić, Svetlana Velmar-Janković, Živojin Pavlović, Filip David, Branimir Šćepanović, Mirko Kovač, Milisav Savić ili David Albahari... Roman je u posledwoj èetvrtini dvadesetog veka, u srpskoj kwiževnosti, dobio krila, ali ni pripovedaèi ne odustaju. Kwige koje treba i dvaput èitati objavquju: Mirjana Pavlović, Radoslav Bratić, Radovan Beli Marković, Milica Mićić Dimovska, Jovan Radulović, Svetislav Basara, Mihajlo Pantić, Radoslav Petković, Nemawa Mitrović, Vladimir Pištalo, Aleksandar Gatalica... (Ne znam da je igde, u bilo kojem tekstu, na ovako malo prostora, stalo toliko znaèajnih imena: šezdeset i pet pisaca bez kojih savremena, moderna, nova srpska kwiževnost ne bi ni postojala. Bez kojih srpska proza ne bi imala onaj znaèaj, o tome su i strani kritièari govorili i pisali, koji u svetskoj i evropskoj kwiževnosti već više od tri decenije ima.) 3. Za stotinak godina objavqeno je èetrdesetak antologija (računajući i kwige koje nemaju reè „antologija“ u naslovu: zbornike, almanahe, panorame, zbirke, preglede...), a najviše u posledwoj èetvrtini veka. Antologije su u F SADRŽAJ MIROSLAV JOSIÆ VIŠWIÆ 15 savremenom kwiževnom životu, umesto da budu èitanka ili vaga, trapovi vrhunskih ostvarewa, postale mustra, tj. moda, ili stratište. Ako su u prošlom veku najbrojniji bili kalendari i almanasi, te „kwige za dobre celi“ iliti „cvetnici“, druga polovina ovoga veka postala je raj (pakao i čistilište, istovremeno) za izbore, za panorame, za antologije. Reè antologija (rođena od grèkih reèi koje znaèe cvet i reè), kojoj su najbliže po znaèewu reèi hrestomatija ili analekta, znaèi bukvalno: „brawe cveća, cvetnik; zbirka odabranih... zbirka najlepšega“ (Vujaklija), a u ovom sluèaju: zbirka izabranih

On the night before our wedding, the lobby bar of the Square Nine hotel was bathed in a marmalade lamplight, as if time were suspended. I still recall the bear hugs of my arriving friends, coats slapped, hands warmed with foam-clouded hot chocolates; the glorious mayhem that followed. Later that evening, at the Tri Sešira, a 19th-century tavern in bohemian Skadarlija, wooden boards descended as if from the air, piled high with mountain cheeses, kajmak (the love child of butter and clotted cream) and processional meats with dense cuts of pork and lamb. The home-cooked scents wrapped themselves around us, as did a ragtag of gypsy musicians, ever more raucous, on beaten-up accordions and guitars. The Serbian capital isn’t a showstopper; it didn’t grab me by the heartstrings the first time I arrived here as a reporter 15 years ago. But over years of returning, the things that failed to charm me before – things I simply couldn’t understand – now make me wonder how I ever lived without them.

    Activities in Belgrade Sights to see 1. Belgrade Fortress (Kalemegdan Park) The number one must-see location in the city. Some 115 battles have been fought over impressive Kalemegdan. Over the centuries, the citadel has been destroyed more than 40 times. The building of the fortification began in Celtic times, which the Romans extended onto the flood plains during their settlement of 'Singidunum', Belgrade's Roman name. Much of what stands today is the product of 18th-century Austro-Hungarian and TurKish reconstructions. The fort's bloody history, discernible despite today's plethora of jolly cafes and funfairs, only maKes Kalemegdan all the more fascinating. Entering from Knez Mihailova, go through the 18th- century Karadjordje Gate to reach the Upper Town (Gornji grad) of the fortress. From the Stambol Gate (1750), you will reach the Military Museum and the 27.5 metre high ClocK Tower. Further along, you will see a small bricK octagon; this is the 1784 Ali Pasha's Turbeh (tomb), one of Belgrade's few well- preserved Islamic monuments. The Roman Well is nearby, a mysterious 60m deep hole (more a cistern than a well) of dubious origin and shrouded in horrifying legends; apparently the well even managed to creep out a visiting Alfred HitchcocK! Looming beside it is the Victor Monument, a symbol of Belgrade erected in 1928 to commemorate Serbia’s victories over the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires during the BalKan Wars and WWI. This 14 metre high monument is the city’s most recognisable landmarK and famous Belgrade attraction. The plateau around the monument is always crowded with tourists and Belgrade natives, partly because of the breath-taKing view over the confluence of the two rivers that flow through Belgrade, and the beauty of this landmarK as part of the historic Belgrade Fortress.

    Zoran \eri} SRPSKA KNJI@EVNOST NA KRAJU VEKA, IZ GENERACIJE U GENERACIJU Ne ulaze}i u spekulacije o tome {ta je kraj na{eg veka (a mnogo ih je, ne samo me|u istori~arima i politi~arima, ve} i me|u filosofima i knji`evnim teoreti~arima), nastoja}e- mo da damo pregled najzna~ajnijih autora i naslova srpske knji`evnosti u poslednjih de- setak godina. U~ini}emo to, najpre, po `anrovima, hronolo{ki, a delimi~no i poeti~ki, kriti~ki vrednuju}i ono {to su srpska knji`evna kritika i razni `iriji za nagrade, ve} izdvo- jili. Bilo kako da izdvajamo, po svim kriterijumima, o~igledno je da su delatne razli~ite generacije, od najstarije do najmla|e, i da se iz godine u godinu pa`nja kritike i ~itala~- ke javnosti nepredvidljivo menja – biraju}i za predmet svojih interesovanja ~as zrelog pi- sca, pri kraju knji`evne karijere, ~as po~etnika, mladog, ili do tog trenutka nedovoljno zapa`enog, ili nerealizovanog starijeg pisca. Roman je, nesumnjivo, naj~itanija knji`evna forma, i u Srbiji i Crnoj Gori. Po razli~i- tim izve{tajima, od izdava~a, knji`evnih `irija, novina i ~asopisa, na srpskom jeziku se svake godine pojavi vi{e od 100 romana. Za poslednjih desetak godina, ta brojka prela- zi 1000. A ipak se govori o krizi romana, koja je, naravno, u vrednosnom smislu, jer se po kvantitetu srpska romaneskna produkcija mo`e meriti sa mnogim drugim velikim na- cionalnim knji`evnostima. NIN-ova nagrada za roman godine, koja se dodeljuje gotovo pola veka, dobar je pokazatelj de{avanja, pre svega, knji`evnog stanja, mo}i i nemo}i pojedinih autoriteta, izdava~kih ku}a, medija, ali i interesovanja javnosti za pojedinog pisca i njegovo, tako uo~eno, delo.

    1 Human Rights in Transition – Serbia 2001 Introduction The situation of human rights in Serbia was largely influenced by the foregoing circumstances. Although the severe repression characteristic especially of the last two years of Milosevic’s rule was gone, there were no conditions in place for dealing with the problems accumulated during the previous decade. All the mechanisms necessary to ensure the exercise of human rights - from the judiciary to the police, remained unchanged. However, the major concern of citizens is the mere existential survival and personal security. Furthermore, the general atmosphere in the society was just as xenophobic and intolerant as before. The identity crisis of the Serb people and of all minorities living in Serbia continued. If anything, it deepened and the relationship between the state and its citizens became seriously jeopardized by the problem of Serbia’s undefined borders. The crisis was manifest with regard to certain minorities such as Vlachs who were believed to have been successfully assimilated. This false belief was partly due to the fact that neighbouring Romania had been in a far worse situation than Yugoslavia during the past fifty years. In considerably changed situation in Romania and Serbia Vlachs are now undergoing the process of self identification though still unclear whether they would choose to call themselves Vlachs or Romanians-Vlachs. Considering that the international factor has become the main generator of change in Serbia, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia believes that an accurate picture of the situation in Serbia is absolutely necessary. It is essential to establish the differences between Belgrade and the rest of Serbia, taking into account its internal diversities.

    UDC 711.4 (497.11) 711.4 (560.118) CHASING THE LIMELIGHT: BELGRADE AND ISTANBUL IN THE GLOBAL COMPETITION Aleksandra Stupar, Cenk Hamamcioglu The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare main changes of contemporary Belgrade and Istanbul - two urban nodes at the crossroads of different and multileveled flows. Following the same pattern of global activation, inevitable competition and networking, these cities are trying to synchronize their multidimensional background, establish new patterns of global behavior and adjust them to the dynamism of modern life. Consequently, their historical role has been modified, urban tissue has been developed, recreated and regenerated, and the output of this process represents an attractive testimony of their global initiation. Revealing the ambiguous nature of strong economic forces as well as a new fusion of urban cultures, Belgrade and Istanbul are structuring the globalized image with the new key-elements. However, their true potential and the real efficiency of this process should be re-evaluated - the changed physiognomy of the city could improve its position in the global hierarchy and facilitate its integration into the global community, but, sometimes, local limitations are too complex and too strong to be ignored. I argue that this specific musicscape relies on communicative and affective aspects of particular performances. I pay special attention to the repertoires performed and the way in which they interweave. The aim of this article is to demonstrate how musical preferences influence sound environment, especially in the context of the tourism industry.
