Jones telling that if he had the means and goods he would open a store in St. Augustine, telling of the inhabitants dissatisfied with the present merchants. GenL 11 9 Nov 1753 To Mr. Schermerhorn in Albany. 25 barrels flour shipped on Mr. Schermerhorn‟s account. Two bills of lading are enclosed here. He is remitting Mr. S. the net proceeds in goods. GenL 12 30 Aug 1753 . To Mr. Reyes Schermerhorn from Mr. William Smith giving his opinion relating to the Will of Claes Janse; Under the Schenectady patent and also the General Draft of a Deed for the conveyance of such rights; he gives Mr. Van Brockhoven a receipt for what he said was paid. Re: Chancery Suit, the bill can not be drawn until the winter, and Mr. Smith advised Mr. Schermerhorn to make good use of his time preparing the information according to the directions (before given). GenL 13 5 May 1753 New York. Ryer Schermerhorn from William Smith. It is necessary for Mr. Schermerhorn to come to town immediately in re: to the Bradt case and bring all his papers with him. Mr. Smith‟s son has been retained by the other side. GenL 14 10 Jun 1762 To Ryer Schermerhorn, Schenectady from John Hansen re: whether his grandfather‟s right of the patient of Reyerse Van Voor Hout; Mr. Smith has found he has done that by deed; the receipt will be sent to you. Your grandfather has legally disposed of it. The original copy of the deed you shall see. GenL 15 5 May 1800 Two letters to James Smith from W. Tobias V. Cuyler. 1. Mr. Cuyler & 17 Sep claiming pay as a 2nd Luit. in the 12th reg. U.S. Army of Infantry; he claims 1800 pay from April 1 to May 1 at $25 per month. 2. Mr. Smith, by Master of 12th Reg. claims that there is no information from the war office respecting the statement of Mr. Cuyler‟s resignation as a 2nd Luit. in the 12th Reg. GenL 16 20 Dec 1773 Schenectady. From Christopher Yates. Outline of an answer to Harman Bradt and Abraham Wemple; both sides in previous letters have been given proposals regarding the trusteeship of city money. In this letter Mr. Yates says he wants to lay both sides of proposals, therefore the court immediately. GenL 17 2 Oct 1801 Daniel Hanshaw requesting wagon and horses to take the remainder of clothing as the season is late. GenL 18 2 Mar 1833 Fort Hunter. Gershom Van Voast to his father requesting an answer from his father if he can have the farm his partner, Nicholas Hill will manage the store if he can‟t have the farm he will continue in business alone. Mr. Hill is pressing him for an answer. GenL 19 17 Mar 1835 Schenectady. Memorandum for Gershom Van Vorst from Jacob Gebhard. Requesting Mr. Van Vorst to inform him if he has a buyer for his property on Washington St. The original sale fell through as the prospective buyer couldn‟t make a down payment before next April contrary to the original plan. GenL 20 15 May 1776 A copy of a letter to Mr. R. Carrey by Maj. Gen. Putnam. A bond with interest will be paid without any trouble at “your” pleasure. GenL 21 13 Apr 1763 For Reyer Schermerhorn from JWL Bleecker informing Mr. Schermerhorn that he doesn‟t know when he can accompany him regarding dividing the lands at Batton Hill (Battenkill) because of pressing work. That he remembers his father saying that Dr. Nott obtained from the common council of Schenectady a grant of 3,000 acres of the common lands under the designation of gores and gussets. That they were about the most valuable of the tracts and that the country members of the council were opposed to the grant and indignant of Dr. Nott‟s successful ingenuity. Mr. Vrooman, William Livingston, presented Mr. Bradt‟s bill in the council; at present has had second reading and is under consideration; is under commitment to the House. GenL 80 11 Jun 1761 John Kyler (Cuyler) Schenectady from Nicholas Speck. Speck is ill, asks Cuyler to see Jno Sanders and ask if he did not make a copy of „my mother‟s Master‟s Will”. P.S. Please to go to Joseph Yates and desire to know of him if the new transport, or wither my grandmother paid it well for Joseph Yates was the man that wrote it. GenL 81 27 Feb 1761 Jno Bleecker to……..? Certificate of survey, made at request of Arent Bratt and Jan Wemp; from Mohawk River back into the woods four English miles according to the tenure of the patent of Confirmation of the Town of Schenectady. Found that Joseph Brauchim lived and had his land considerable within the limits of said patent of confirmation. GenL 82 24 Jun 1761 New York. To Ryer Schermerhorn from John Van Sice “to Cousin Reyer” asking for lumber (to be sent in the fall) GenL 83 19 Apr 1781 Albany. 19 Apr 1781 to Reyer Schermerhorn from mat Visscher. Visscher, as lawyer, writing re: suit of Cornelius Cuyler. Schermerhorn is to come to Albany re: subpoena and consult about defense. GenL 84 25 Apr 1781 Albany. Reyer Schermerhorn from Mat Visscher, Albany lawyer. There is much criminal business before the court, which takes preference over civil suits; so advises Schermerhorn to dismiss his witnesses for the time being. GenL 85 16 Sep 1761 New York. To Reyer Schermerhorn from Thomas Smith. Mr. Scott has not finished reading conveyances sent him but as soon as possible will return them. Wishes Schermerhorn success in “finding the lands you seek”….If you can find any more than the 2,500 acres let me know and let Mr. Bleecker survey it by itself and I will endeavor to get it included in the patent, or petition for it immediately. Will file bill in court of Chancery after consulting with Mr. Scott. Has no confirmation of lots at Battenkill; will he take confirmation in manned proposed by Smith? GenL 89 8 Dec 1756 Reyer Schermerhorn from William Smith. Finished “bill consisting of six skins of parchment, written on both sides, and filed it in the Court of Chancery. The most laborious piece of work of the kind that I ever performed….” “You have been delayed a full 18 months by the Claim of the 6th share of Catalyntie Andries Devoss in the undivided lands mentions discrepancies in dates of Ante nuptial agreements in Devoss. NB This long drawn out correspondence (add dated about 1761) appears to hinge on Reyer Schermerhorn‟s grandmother said Catalyntje Andries Devoss, re: division of common lands, mentioned in ante nuptial agreement. GenL 91 7 Sep 1761 New York. Ephraim Cowan, William Clark and John Blair, Massachusetts Bay Colony from William Smith, Jr. re: lands in Cambridge, Massachusetts. GenL 92 8 Jun 1808 Copy of an oath before Bastian Visscher made by Jacob Swits. Lt. Col. Commandant of a regiment in City of Schenectady. In making report of vacancies and recommending persons for appointments and promotions, recommended Capt. Jacob Mabee as entitled to promotion of a Major. Justifies the appointment.
