Scripture Theme of the Year: 2020

“Let justice surge like waters, and righteousness like an unfailing stream.” :24

BSM Prayer

Loving God, We thank you for calling us into the community of Benilde-St. Margaret’s. You have called us to continue the mission to continue the dream, to continue to build as those who came before us, those whose lives, work, and dreams have brought us to this day. We thank you for all that has been; and we ask your blessing on all that will be. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Justice “Let justice surge like waters, and righteousness like an unfailing stream.” Amos 5:24

Review from last week: In the words of Catholic Theologian Peter Kreeft... ~ The meaning of virtue “Virtue” is a very simple concept to define.

As vice is a bad habit, so virtue is a good habit.

~ Virtues improve not just what you do but what you are.

~ The main source of a good and happy life – for the human race, for each nation and community, and for each family – is the personal virtue of each individual.

~Wars will not cease and peace will not come, to nations or to families or to individuals, without justice. But neither will lasting peace come through justice alone. Check out Link to Peter Kreeft: Virtues and Vices

RIGHTEOUSNESS: might be defined as ETHICAL BEHAVIOR In Catholic doctrine, righteousness is "infused", i.e., God “pours” grace into our souls or, “fills” us with His grace.

A WORD FROM FRANCIS:

“Every person is called to rediscover what really matters, what they really need, what makes them live well and, at the same time, what is secondary, and what they can do without.

Jesus proclaims in this beatitude - hunger and thirst for uprightness - that there is a thirst that will not be disappointed; a thirst that, if satisfied, will be sated and will always end well, because it corresponds to the very heart of God, to His Holy Spirit Who is love, and also to the seed that the Holy Spirit has sown in our hearts. May the Lord give us this grace: to have this thirst for justice which is precisely the desire to find it, to see God and to do good to others.” Pope Francis https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=1 2328

Discussion: How do you instill the thirst for righteousness or uprightness in ourselves and our children: that thirst that always satisfies as it “corresponds to the very heart of God”?

GOOD NEWS ON A TUESDAY! The Catechism of the states...

“From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by [angels and] their watchful care and intercession” (CCC 336). God appoints to each one of us a guardian angel whose mission is to guide, guard and protect. We don’t always see them or sense their presence, but the truth is that they are there, ready and willing to come to our aid.

“For parents, it is easy to forget that our children have guardian angels and that we can pray to them (through the mediation of our own guardian angel) and invoke their powerful protection over our children. When we can’t physically be there with our children to protect them, it is most appropriate to pray to their guardian angel.” Catholic Writer/Theologian Philip Kosloski | Feb 20, 2018

The Famous Prayer for Protection:

Saint Michael, the Archangel,

Defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him we humbly pray,

And to Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts,

By the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

THIS PAST SUNDAY’s GOSPEL: MATTHEW 21:28-32

28 "What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, `Son, go and work in the vineyard today.'

29 And he answered, `I will not'; but afterward he repented and went. 30And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, `I go, sir,' but did not go. 31Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.
