M WVSS.COM 2019 WACONIA RIDE-IN

page 2 December 2019 2019 was a year of celebration, sadness and changes for Midwest Vintage Snowmobile Shows (MVSS), your host of the Midwest Ride-In. Celebration in the 29th annual Midwest Ride-In and 25th consecutive in Waconia, MN. Celebration in not only 60 years of Ski-Doo history, but all the things that have come to make the Midwest Ride- In special. The swap was well attended by both sellers and buyers, the Ballroom packed with an excellent display of Ski-Doo , the Saturday night banquet sold out again, there were many incredible restorations and original sleds on display in Sunday’s Judged Show, AND the Watertown Lions and their world-famous pork chops did not disappoint. Sadness that our long-time friend, MVSS VIP, tireless MnUSA member, supporter and all-around snowmobile advocator Jack Speckel passed shortly after the 2019 Ride-In. For those lucky enough to have crossed paths with Jack there is no denying his enthusiasm for snowmobiling and for the Midwest Ride-In. For years he led our annual ride that in recent years eclipsed 1,000 sleds participating. It is in his honor we dedicate all future trail rides as The Jack Speckel Midwest Ride-In Trail Ride. And changes…where do I begin? For the first time in 25 years the Midwest Ride-In is not inWaconia and John Zeglin is not writing this letter. To quote the legendary Vince Lombardi, “What the hell’s going on out here?” Shortly after the 2019 event MVSS embarked on finding a new home for the Midwest Ride-In as it became clear theWaconia site would not be suitable for our event moving forward. While this was equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, we came to realize there were many enthusiastic partners willing to take on the challenge. After a thorough search MVSS chose ERX Motor Park in Elk River, MN as our new home. ERX is a private held 400-acre facility with a deep appreciation for snowmobiling. Their dedicated staff have been excellent to work with in bringing the 2020 Midwest Ride-In to life. We look forward to working with them for years to come. With the venue change John decided to take a step back from the stresses of co-chairing another Ride-In. The good news for John is he once again talked someone into spending more time working on the Ride-In (I know I’m not alone here…John is a HOFer after all). The good news for YOU is John is as busy and hands on as ever. Also lending a steady hand is Sue Goede who co-chaired the event for many years with John and she continues to do so today. With that it is my pleasure to invite you to the 2020 Midwest Ride-In at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, MN. The gate (USE SOUTH ENTRANCE FOR ENTRY ALL WEEKEND) will open at noon Friday (not before) and stay open till dusk for vendor set up and trailer drop off. Admission buttons are required to enter Friday and Ballroom access (look for CM Building on site map) will be restricted on Friday during the day due to ballroom set-up. The Elk Lake Easy Riders will serve a limited menu on Friday over the lunch hour with an expanded menu all weekend. And yes, we will have pork chops. Lots of pork chops! The best deal is to pre-register online at www.mwvss.com for a $20 weekend button set or you can get your buttons at the gate Friday for $25 for the weekend. Save money and pre-register today. Children 12 and under are free. Swap spots are $20 online and $25 at the gate…again take advantage of pre-registration. Our annual Friday night Breaker Party is in the Ballroom from 7-10pm with cash bar and silent auction. Ballroom doors close at 10pm for Saturday morning set-up. Saturday offers a full slate of events. Please read the agenda on page 6 to make sure you don’t miss something. Gates open at 7am to swappers, spectator parking at 7:30am, Ballroom opens at 8am, Kids Pro Ice will offer two full days of kids racing ages 4-12. These kids are SERIOUS. Be sure to check them out. Whether you are looking for new parts, used parts, memorabilia or a complete there is always a treasure or two to find in the swap. The Jack Speckel Midwest Ride-In Trail Ride leaves the track at 11am on Saturday. Enter the track on the southeast corner for a parade lap and then out to 10+ miles of groomed (or as conditions allow). Sunday Show registration will be in the Ballroom at 10am-2pm on Saturday. We highly encourage you to pre-register online as there is NO SUNDAY MORNING REGISTRATION. Our Classics Trail Ride (all sleds welcome) begins at 2pm on the snocross track. Don’t forget to check out the amazing display of cross country racing sleds in the Ballroom and the many silent auction items. There will be merchandise on sale all day. AND BY POPULAR DEMAND WE HAVE MOVED THE VIP AUTOGRAPH SESSION TO SATURDAY AT 2:30PM-3:30PM. The Ballroom closes at 4pm for the Saturday evening banquet. Ballroom doors reopen at 6pm with dinner at 6:30pm. The banquet is by reservation only and does require a dinner ticket for entry – tickets only sold online. Another great reason to pre-register. After dinner there will be speakers and our always fun and lively Auction. Some cool items available again this year. After the live auction we will announce the 2021 Feature Snowmobile! Sunday is a new opportunity for anyone interested in swapping that was maybe too busy Saturday having fun. Swap spaces are free on Sunday. Ballroom & Silent Auction opens at 8am. Show judging takes place from 11am-1pm. Get over to check out Kids Pro Ice as they have another full day of racing scheduled. The Awards presentation for all Show classes is at 3pm inside the ballroom. New this year is the Midwest Ride-In 90 on Sunday. Check out 90 minutes of 1973 and older single cylinder racing on the snocross track. This is guaranteed to be a show you do not want to miss. A special THANK YOU to John Zeglin, Sue Goede, the exceptionally talented and dedicated MVSS committee, our club volunteers, the staff at ERX Motor Park, and all our attendees old and new. Because of your support the future of the Midwest Ride-In at ERX is as bright as ever. WHY DID WE MOVE AWAY FROM WACONIA? SUNDAY JUDGED SHOW For the last 25 years, we held this great event on the shores ONLINE REGISTRATION – NOW OPEN of Lake Waconia. Unfortunately, development has driven us out. The first nail in the coffin was that our on-land parking www.mwvss.com area was sold to a housing developer, which was annexed NO SUNDAY MORNING REGISTRATION to the city so that they could bring in city and sewer. The second nail was that the DNR had been working with PLEASE REGISTER ONLINE NOW! local jurisdictions to construct a large scale boat launch - right where we accessed the lake and held our Sunday judged show. Saves you time and easier for our volunteer staff. Registration packets will be mailed to you in advance of the event. The third nail was that Carver County had been looking for a means to force the Waconia Ballroom into obsolescence. At If you registered last year your information is in the Raceday database.
