Has had surge of Re-claimers, displaced and homeless people living at the Spruit. ISD has come with a plan to address the negative impact associated with crime, grime, fire safety, health and all other ills that impact on the quality of peoples’ lives. The plan will achieve this through sustained operation involving all relevant stakeholders. This operation will target the identified locality in Ward 90. 1. OVERALL OBJECTIVE To ensure compliance of the City’s By-Laws thereby ensuring that all legislation, regulations and city By-Laws that are related to people living in public open spaces are complied with. 2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE To achieve a percentage reduction in the prevalence of displaced/homeless people living in the targeted area. 3. TIME FRAME CALENDAR OF EVENTS AND FOLLOW UP SCHEDULE May May Date 10 May. 2016 May. 2016 Time 09H00 TBC 4. PROFILE OF OPERATIONAL AREA The following are contraventions that are common in the area: Illegal dumping, crime, drugs, overcrowding, noise pollution, illegal structures in the Park/Stream, 5. PLANNED INTERVENTIONS To conduct a multi-disciplinary blitz/operation to ensure that all homeless/ displaced are fully compliant to the applicable City By- laws and relevant legislation. 6. The rapid expansion of urban areas is typically seen as a threat to global biodiversity, yet the role of cities in protecting species that may be rare in the wild remains poorly explored. Here, we report the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) to document the species present in one of the largest urban green spaces in Johannesburg, South Africa. We document a surprisingly large number of taxonomic groups, including some rare and threatened species. Our results support the notion that urban green spaces can provide refuge to a large number of species, and the species inventory provides critical information that can be used by city parks managers to conserve green spaces. Abstract: Adaptation to environments that are changing as a result of human activities is critical to species’ survival. A large number of species are adapting to, and even thriving in, urban green spaces, but this diversity remains largely undocumented.

What is distinctive about South Africa is the uneasy coexistence of poverty and opulence. This study seeks to explore the structural, historical roots of poverty among the blacks in South Africa by deploying Fanonian Critical Decolonial theory. This is the ideal theoretical approach to unmask the structural causes of poverty and inequality in South Africa. Colonial ambitions and the global political engineering of the world by America and Europe spans more than four hundred years, and is still very much alive today in subtle forms. This study asserts that this imperial history is the cause of poverty, lack of agency, and the hellish conditions under which many black people live. The rise of industrial capitalism and attendant urbanisation is at the core of this impoverishment of the black man.
