Ilse had muscular dystrophy and was an inspiring, selfless worker on behalf of people with disabilities, both in the workplace and beyond. One of her goals was to create a comprehensive directory such as this that would be of value to all South Africans with disabilities. Before she died (in 2006), Ilse worked for several years on gathering information for this purpose. This was a massive undertaking, especially as it was not done full-time. Nonetheless, Ilse opted to include as much information in each entry as she could, which has obvious advantages for the user, although inevitably the details included are liable to change with time. As a close friend and colleague of Ilse, I have sought to add to and check the list as much as possible and to make it available. However, it has proved impossible to check all the entries before putting the directory on this website, so you are asked to forgive any inaccuracies that remain and to let me know of any corrections and additions that you can specify.
