THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX is a new musical fantasy adventure based on Kate DiCamillo’s Newbery Medal-winning book. The PigPen Theatre Co. collaborates with Berkeley Rep to bring the family-friendly show alive with a terrific cast, stunning sets, wonderful songs and a variety of innovative puppetry techniques. The story follows a tiny mouse with extra large ears whose family lives in a castle at the Kingdom of Dor. There are plot twists galore in this magical fairy tale with a happy ending. The show packs a lot into 95 minutes with 17 original songs and a cast of seven often playing multiple characters. If you are taking children it might be a good idea to read the book first to familiarize them with the story. But don’t be scared off. This is as much a pleasure for adults as kids.
