He has also recently traveled to Tokio to join an exhibition organized by a concept store, always collaborating with friend and stylist Katie Shilingford. Among his works, it is included his collaboration with Levi’s and with Alexander McQueen. The most popular appearances of his designs on the media had been putting one of his dresses at the cover of the limited edition magazine, Another magazine, worn by actress Tilda Swinton, and the public appearances wearing his designs of celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Patrick Wolf or Björk. He gets the inspiration from his childhood memories in Ipswich, the small village where he was born, where he finds emotions such as nostalgia and decadence, emotions that he would like to transmit with his creations. Another thing that characterizes his collections is his unique use of that metallic-foil wrapped yarns that usually appear in every one of his creations. A young designer that will create lots of opinions and that will, step by step, conquer the fashion scene, for sure.

A day in the life

BY MAX ADAM

Somehow I knew that the time for a change had supportive yet but already the forecast for the next come, I had been thinking about it for quite a while days is looking very positive, smells like new looks and the answer is... drum roll...; Madrid. It is not from the streets of Madrid. Until now, I have not that I don’t like Barcelona anymore, actually I love had the chance to take many pictures yet, but at the so called “Ciudad Condal”, but I just felt that least some, some street styles, some party pictures I needed something else, new things to explore and few sightseeing ones. I have already found my and therefore I decided to move to the capital of favourite district, that is for sure and it shouldn’t be Spain. Now, I have been here for a bit more than a surprise either, because many people told me: two weeks and so far I am very impressed by this “You will be hanging out a lot in Malasaña”, and city. Lots of nice people, nice architecture, nice so it is. Plenty of bars with good music, neat stores parties, nice street styles and so on and so forth. and most of all, interesting people. To sum it up, on the whole a very good experience. Unfortunately the weather has not been the most For more street Madrid styles, click here! To see more pictures of the concert, click here!

PERSONS OF SPECIAL COURTESY RIGO PEX

Rigo Pex I have already had a couple of visitors and one of them was the Guatemalan miracle Rigo Pex, better known as Meneo. Malicious gossip has it that he is the cause of global warming, I don’t know about that, but he surely knows how to fire it up, he knows basic and wrote a song with one of my favourite lines ever in it: “Tiger Woods is gay”. Electropical beats, straight off his gameboy, this is what I call 8-Bit with soul. Give it up for Rigo Pex!

His final collection at Central Saint Martins was made with balloons that accentuated model’s joints and limbs, which has been his trademark forever and which also attracted the fashion editor of the magazine Dazed and Confused and placed one of his designs on the cover of the magazine. This, and the fact that he showed his creations at the Alternative Fashion Week in London, caught the attention of the group Fashion East, who invited Pugh to participate in its autumn 2005 group show. The collection he presented really got the critic’s attention and had very good reviews. Pugh solo premier was in London’s 2006 fall shows and, since then, his collections keep being very well received. Anna Wintour had declared to be a notable supporter of Pugh’s designs, as well as the singer Kylie Minogue, who was the first person to buy a piece from him and, since then, she has never stoped wearing his creation in her shows and public appearances. Among the materials he uses, we can find PVC, latex, parachute silk and foam, among many others. He is known for revitalizing British and European fashion and by his exuberant imagination and his theatrical conception of fashion, transmitting an unreal feeling. Until 2007, his clothes were only made to be shown at the catwalks but were unavailable to purchase. Now it is time to see if he is just an amazing fashion artist or if he can also give a good result in terms of commerce. By now, we are starting to see how he is slowly introducing more wearable creations within his collections, and we know he has partnered with major manufacturers to produce some of his pieces, which can be understood as a way of starting to be a designer for people, and not only for the show.

Alexandra Kotur, vogue style director for the past 15 years, is leaving the brand to join the magazine Town&country as creative director. This has been the first big change that Jay Fielden’s, the new Town&country’s EIC has lead in the magazine, but it is for sure that this is just the start. Fielden and Kotur had work many times together in the past, when he was an editor contributor at Vogue and prior, the EIC for men’s Vogue. “She’s somebody I worked with on various projects for years and I think she matches perfectly with the brand,” “I want somebody that can be here on a daily basis and we haven’t had that in David,” said Fielden referring to David Lipman, the current creative and design director at the magazine. “We’ll continue to work with him on bigger ideas and long view design questions. I can pick up the phone and talk about some grand idea or he can help land a big photographer.”

Cédric Charlier Will Leave Cacharel next October

Cacharel won’t renew Cédric Charlier’s contract when it ends on the next October 7, announced recently the brand. The Belgian designer, who had spent previously six years at Lanvin being Alber Elbaz’s assistant, finally joined Cacharel in April 2009 and, during this time, he has done a really good and hard work. During this time at the brand he has relaunched the women’s ready-to-wear line and convinced the brand to return to join the Paris Fashion Week. But despite all of this, the brand has decided not to keep him for some reasons they haven’t shared yet.

Six months ago, LILY Allen and her sister Sarah Owen already surprised us by opening their vintage shop Lucy in Disguise. When all of that happened, Allen told Elle UK that they had decided to open the shop because they loved vintage and also because they were not fashion designers. Well, it seems that the sisters forgot that last part of their statement because now they will be launching an 18 piece ready-to.wear collection of dresss inspired in their favorite vintage pieces. Nadia Jones, the LVMH menswear style director’s sister, will be helping Lily and Sarah to create their styles from the vintage pieces they have chosen. The collection will be launched next June and will be offered at Harvey Nichols in the UK andat shopbop.com in the US, as well, of course, as at Lucy and Disguise store and onlinestore. The collection will mix pieces inspired In the 70’s, which are Sarah’s favourites, and pieces inspired in the 30’s and 40’s, which is what Lily loves the most.

Alexander Wang To Debut Collection Menswear

It seems that Alexander Wang doesn’t have enough by opening his first flagship store in NY; reorganize his entire online presence and running two labels, Alexander Wang and T. So, to keep his full agenda even fuller he has decided to launch, next fall, his new men’s ready-to-wear collection too. “It’s about the right timing, the right opportunity, then one thing leads to another”, he said. His first contact with menswear design came via his casual T collection that he started three years ago, which began small and simple and gradually grew to include leathers and outwear pieces. He recently has won the CFDA and GQ’S Best Menswear Designer Award because of this collection, T. Wang explains that menswear in among the most requested category at his new store in NY so, for fall he will debut his first completed Alexander Wang menswear full collection. HERVÉ LÉGER THINKS MODELS ARE “TOO SKINNY, TOO SAD”

Designer Hervé Léger lost control over his brand in 1999, which has been designed by Max Azria since then. On 2000, one year after losing his initial brand, Léger set up his new label, Hervé L. Leroux, which he still designs but doesn’t show on the runways. He says he prefers it like this because he doesn’t want to choose among all the models offered nowdays, too skinny and sad, in his opinion. “If I had to go back to catwalk presentations I would be in a panic...Already the models I find are too skinny, too sad. And I knew the age of the super top models, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, who were always lively and smiling,” Léger said. “Today you go between several défilés and you will see the exact same type of girl - it just doesn’t inspire me. Of course I do presentations, I do three presentations a year: spring, fall and cruise, that I show at my showroom and what I like is to have the buyers come to me. They buy, things sell well, and that really gives me the feeling of existing for something because I know that somewhere out there in the world I have clients that adore what I’m doing and that’s really reward enough.”

Balenciaga Alum Alistair Carr Takes The Reins At Pringle Of Scotland

Alistair Carr, who was alum at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière’s command during four years and who had before joined periods at Marni, Cacharel and Chloe after finishing the M.A course at Central Saint Martins, is now joining Pringle of Scotland. He will be replacing Waight Keller as design director. “I am a perfectionist about finish,” says Carr, “but I also want ease of movement in clothes.” Carr will be finally applying his principles to Pringle of Scotland by designing the men’s collection which will be launched in June. The collection will be influenced by the re-contextualizing of tradition he learned so well at Balenciaga and will be a bit more streamlined and less archive-oriented that it used to be under Keller’s. He also says he will continue with Waight Keller’s practice of collaborating with contemporary artists.

Designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Is Producing A Rock Musical

The fashion designer and artist Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who, apart from his collections, had already a line called Jesus Jeans and produced a series of logoed paintings, has surprised all of us with his next project: running a rock musical. “We are at the end of a cycle, and we don’t give a damn [about] fashion shows. It’s not at all what makes the world move forward. I’m bored. The stylists are the ones who make magazine covers. When I do a fashion show, I do it like an installation. I was always closer to music and art than to fashion. I was never crazy about fashion for fashion. Until now I made clothes to tell stories.” Anyways, the creative plans to continue designing apart of bringing his talents to the stage. The musical will be called Ceremony and will have the music of the French group Nouvelle Vague, who will star in the show. The multitasker Catlebajac has selected the songs, designed the costumes and choreographed the performance. Can’t wait to see the result!

BY LAURA SUNYER CEO Uses Secret Contracts to Silence Models Who Pose Nude for Him

Dov Charney, American Apparel’s CEO who is also in charge of the brand’s photoshoots, uses really long and restrictive contracts to silence models who pose nude for him. The contract bans models from suing him in court, saying anything bad about AA to the media and forces models to take their disputes to secret. The contracts are unusually long considering the models are paid $50 an hour and usually get only$300 a session. These contracts have seen the light in a recent lawsuit in which he has been accused of unfairly preventing a model from bringing a lawsuit against him. The model Tesa Lubens-Dehaven and her co-plaintiff Kimbra Lo finally decided to accuse him and bring the case to court. Lo, who used to work at a AA store, says that Charney suggested her to become one of his models before attempting to have sex with her. Chanrney defends himself by saying that his accusers sent him sexy photos and emails to provoke him.

Jimmy Choo Wants to Buy Back His Namesake Brand for £500 Million

Shoe designer Jimmy Choo doesn’t actually own his namesake brand. In fact, since 2000 he sold it to the UK private equity firm, TowerBrook, which owns the majority of the brand. The only 15% not owned by them is property of the Jimmy Choo’s co-founder, Tamara Mellon. We’ve heard that TowerBrook is keen on selling and that some private equities such as LVMH or Valentino have been whispered as potential buyers. But Choo is decided to recover it and has hired adviser Daniel Stewart to help him raise 500 million pounds to buy the company and find the right investors for it. “It’s feasible that an Asian investor would be interested”, said Lauren Goldstein Crowe, author of The Towering World of Jimmy Choo: A Glamorous Story of Power, Profits and the Pursuit of the Perfect Shoe.

This Leak

The influence of video in the world of film and video art is a constant reality that once again expands the horizons of these artistic expressions. Juanma Carrillo and FélixFernández demonstrate the impossibility of drawing such limits with their new work “This Leak”, the promotional video for the single Rubeck musician and composer of his LP “The incident”. A proposal defined by their own marketing strategies for their dual character between music and video art piece.

Juanma Carrillo renowned photographer and filmaker of short films like “The flowers also produce thorns” or “say” and Félix Fernández great performer and artist, returns to work together in this production along with musician Rubeck. The video treats the theme of the trilogy “Cover Me “, a draft video creation yet to finish by the three artists about the individual’s solitude and the search for loved ones.

“This Leak” who participated last month in Region 0. The Latino Video Art Festival of New York, shows the cathartic process of a businessman from Wall Street to a new perspective for the future. The rigid attitude of the character contained in the geometry and the stress of New York is released by a dance under the open sky in the same city. Finally, shining in the evening light releases its hidden look to new horizons and discovers the extent of the surrounding space.
