THE NEW MILLENNIUM ERA: THE FUTURE OF TEXTILES By Sarah E. Braddock Clarke TOKYO ZOKEI UNIVERSITY – 23 June 2016 Going back to the 1960s (and 1967 to be precise) British fashion designer Mary Quant said: “Some day we will blow clothes the way we blow glass. It’s ridiculous that fabric should be cut up to make a flat thing go round a round person.” At the very end of the 1990s there were many predictions for what the clothing of the new millennium would look like - The French fashion designer Thierry Mugler said: “The future of fashion? It has none. The trend is no fashion. We are getting nakeder and nakeder.” Continuing with that theme the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard said: “In this new erotic world every illusionistic element is missing (…) the body is present, even over-exposed, but only as part of the technical equipment.” And British designer John Galliano thought that: “The only way to get forward in fashion is to return to construction.” While Karl Lagerfeld believes the future of fashion is in the textiles used… Slide List OPENING 1. La Perla For release: 09/February/2017 803 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10065 Contact: Zehra Ahmad Phone No: (212) 459-2775 LA PERLA PRESENTS FALL/WINTER 2017 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION New York - February 9th, 2017 - For her second season as creative director, Julia Haart created a beautiful stage for La Perla’s Fall 2017 debut at New York Fashion Week. And with it we see the many possibilities for combining the very separate worlds of ready-to-wear and luxury intimate wear. Floral blooms, ivy everywhere, perfumed moss, flowers flow throughout the windows of the two-story and six rooms called the “La Perla Manor”, where the models are arranged and sat on couches before they walked, one by one on the runway. “I was inspired by the British garden as interpreted by artists throughout history”, said Haart. The designer made a visual the artistic interpretation of British gardens across six sections of a British manor. MORE La Perla FW17 2 Her concept was nature that is viewed by a human being with vibrant color, fierceness, and sensuality. The music was a rock and roll alternative to show the vibrant side the designer wanted to showcase. Haart worked floral motifs throughout her luscious lineup with a galore burst of color and texture. The looks capture a spirit of joyful spunk. Naomi Campbell opens the show in a blue silk and lace slip dress under a macramé-embroidered tweed coat. The texture of the tweed coat shows it’s heavy and durable side which gives a message of strength and masculinity. -

Fashion's Autumn/Winter 2014 Ad Campaigns | Financial Times
04/01/2020, 10:22 Page 1 of 1 Luxury goods Add to myFT Fashion’s autumn/winter 2014 ad campaigns A deconstruction of the industry’s ads for the season reveals a sombre economic mood Share Save David Hayes AUGUST 8 2014 Hemlines may once have been a cute way of monitoring the state of the economy – rather aptly, they are all over the place these days – but nothing gives a snapshot of global hard-currency health better than a flick through the September issues of the world’s glossiest fashion magazines. Landing on newsstands with a reassuringly weighty thud early this month, the current edition of US Vogue has more advertising than any other American fashion or lifestyle magazine, with a whopping 631 ad pages. Yet it is still down 4.5 per cent on last year’s Lady Gaga extravaganza of 665 pages – which in turn was down on the magazine’s peak of 727 pages of ads in 2007. The luxury sector may not have turned an economic corner – yet. And in fashion terms the mood is not exactly upbeat, either: think brown and black set against brutalist concrete architecture (Prada); corseted women hanging around in a drab hotel suite (Dior); and models trapped in a surrealist crazy golf course from hell, wearing equally disturbing knitwear (Kenzo). Yes, advertising matters, not only as a barometer of the spending trends of the fashion world, but also as a tone-setting exercise. The following images are how fashion should look this autumn/winter, straight from the designer’s eye, so take note. -
