The Cultural Ambassador will pass along the benefits of their ongoing learning outcomes from the formal training, mentorship and on-the- job work activities provided to assist TFN Members and others who need to learn about TFN and Coast Salish Cultures. Duties and Responsibilities: • Cultural Training • During most of the first year of this position, the Cultural Ambassador will be enrolled in and complete Simon Fraser University’s ‘First Nations Language Proficiency Certificate’ program, which will be delivered in a combination of virtual learning and TFN Lands based learning environments. This program will allow its students to acquire hǝn̓ q̓ ǝmin̓ ǝm̓ conversational and literacy skills, the Coast Salish language spoken by Tsawwassen First Nation, as well as Musqueam, Tsleil-waututh, Kwikwetlem, and Kwantlen • Mentorship will be provided by cultural leaders, elders, council members and cultural ambassador piers as they share personal stories and cultural protocol information through visual art, song, story and crafting • During the first two years of this position, the Cultural Ambassador will also learn more about TFN’s culture through combinations of classroom, mentorship, research and professional development oriented cultural projects • Completing SFU’s certificate program will likely lead to further educational streams with the university as directed by TFN, such as diplomas and degrees • Cultural Education and facilitation o Successful completion of formal education, along with mentorship with TFN Elders and other Coast Salish subject matter experts, will empower the Cultural Ambassador to speak confidently and educate others on Tsawwassen First Nation cultural matters. The Lands Department is responsible for the delivery of all planning, development, and engineering related services. The Community is in the midst of a significant development program, which includes the development of commercial, industrial, and residential properties. Along with the review and approval of the engineering infrastructure to support this development, the Lands Department is also responsible for assuming the ongoing maintenance and management of the infrastructure. TFN is seeking a qualified individual to join our Lands Department in the permanent full-time position of Planner II. The Planner II will be responsible for a wide range of planning policy initiatives including researching, analyzing, preparing, and updating TFN’s land development and member housing regulations and policies. The Planner II works closely with the professional staff in the Lands Department and Policy & Intergovernmental Affairs & Government Services Department. The successful incumbent will be expected to maintain effective working relationships with staff members, Chief and Council, community members and the public.
