These new saints are Pope Paul VI, Archbishop Oscar Romero, Father Vincenzo Romano, Sister Nazaria Ignacia de Learning our Catholic Faith Santa Teresa de Jesús March Mesa, Father Francesco Spinelli, Angelus Sister Maria Katharina Kasper, and Nunzio Sulprizio. Let’s take a look at two of these new saints! Saint Óscar Romero (1917-1980): The archbishop of San Salvador, El Salvador, from 1977 until his martyrdom, Archbishop Romero was an outspoken opponent of the political strife and injustice in his country, although he did not support liberation theology. Ordained a priest in 1942, he studied in Rome and served for many years as a parish priest, as auxiliary bishop of San Salvador and as bishop of Santiago de María. He was murdered March 24, 1980, while saying Mass, and his assassins were never brought to justice. He was declared a martyr by Pope Francis in early 2015 and beatified in May 2015 in San Salvador before a crowd of more than 250,000 faithful. Saint Vincenzo Romano (1751-1831): Saint Vincenzo Romano spent almost his entire life as a parish priest in the area around his native Naples, Italy. Ordained a priest in 1775, he spent many years at the Church of Santa Croce in his hometown of Torre del Greco, where he was given the name “The Worker Priest” because of his inexhaustible labors on behalf of his flock, especially the poor.

We must set the perfect example and get these kids to Mass…not just drop them off at class. Class is from 9:45 sharp until 10:45 so you can go to the 8:30 or 11:00 Mass. November 18th will be our next Children’s Mass. It will be led by our 6th grade class! These kids will be doing lots of great things this year so please keep them and all the youth in your prayers. Thanks to the Confirmation class that did the Mass for us in October. They did a wonderful job and are excellent examples of what these kids are capable of doing! There will be NO PRE on November 25th because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Youth Group News We are very excited about this year’s youth group! We are working toward a summer trip to attend a Steubenville retreat including some Six Flags time in Missouri! At a meeting March 6 with Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for Saints’ Causes, Pope Francis signed decrees for the causes of 13 men and women — among them a pope, an archbishop, two young laywomen and a number of priests and nuns. He recognized a miracle attributed to Blessed Paul, who, according Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican secretary of state, will be declared a saint in late October at the end of the Synod of Bishops on youth and discernment. Blessed Paul, who was born Giovanni Battista Montini, was pope from 1963 to 1978. Pope Francis also formally signed the decree recognizing the miracle needed to advance the sainthood cause of Archbishop Romero of San Salvador, martyr. El Salvador’s ambassador to the Holy See, Manuel Roberto Lopez, told Catholic News Service March 7 that the news of the pope’s approval “took us by surprise.” “They told us before that the process was going well and that all we needed was the approval of the miracle, and it turns out the pope approved it yesterday,” he said. Lopez told CNS that he was happy that Blessed Oscar Romero’s canonization was imminent and that his holiness was recognized alongside one of his earliest supporters. “To see that he will be canonized along with (Blessed) Paul VI, who was a great friend of Archbishop Romero and supported his work, is a great blessing,” Lopez said.
