The Jags also picked up a tournament title in the Bowling Green Kelme Classic and impressive wins over a pair of Big Ten foes (Michigan State in the preseason, Wisconsin during the regular season). The team featured four All Mid-Continent Conference selections, including a pair of first teamers. The 2003 season was highlighted by Brandon Meyer becoming just the fifth Academic All-American in school history. In 2001, Franklin’s squad raced out to a 6-2 start and earned the No. 10 ranking in the Great Lakes Region on Oct. 1. After closing the year with a 9-10-2 mark, three Jags were named First Team All Mid-Con while Femia became just the second player in conference history to compete in the Select All-Star Classic. He was also named Honorable Mention All-America by the NSCAA. The 2000 season put the IUPUI soccer program on the map as Franklin led IUPUI to the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in any sport. His squad stormed through the Mid-Con Tournament including a 2-1 victory over Oakland in the finals. From there, the Jags marched past Marist in a triple-overtime thriller to earn the school’s first-ever NCAA Division I tournament bid. The Jags threatened SMU in the NCAA’s opening round before falling, 2-0. Prior to moving to Division I, Franklin and the 1997 team ended the season by establishing six all-time records including the school’s best record of 15-3-1 (.816). IUPUI also set records for most shutouts (11), fewest games shutout (1), most wins (15), best winning percentage (.816), most goals scored (56) and fewest goals allowed (12) in a season. IUPUI lost only one road match in 1997 and was 19-2-1 away from home during the 1996 and 1997 sea- sons. The NSCAA also named six IUPUI players to its 11-member All-Mideast Team. Franklin guided the 1996 team to a 14-5 record, which is the second-best season in school history. With 14 victories, the ‘96 squad recorded the most single- season wins by an IUPUI soccer team since 1991. IUPUI also tied a school record for fewest times shutout in a season (3). By shutting out nine opponents, IUPUI was only one away from the then school record of 10. He was a member of the coaching staff for the 1994 NCAA National Championship runner-up. He has also worked as a counselor at the Indiana University summer soccer camps for the past 26 years. In 2003, The USA Today and NCAA recognized IUPUI again - this time for graduating more than the previously counted cohort. Individually, IUPUI has had two student-athletes earn First Team Academic All-America honors, while making a precedent of ranking among the conference leaders in academic honorees. IUPUI has also established a pattern of commitment to serving their community. The Jaguars have averaged over nearly 1,000 hours of community service the past five years, taking part in youth clinics, hosting a Canned Food Drive and Adopt-A-Family programs and par- ticipating in several charity walk-a-thons. Head Basketball Coach Ron Hunter earned national acclaim in 2007-08, partnering with Samari- tan’s Feet to raise for impoverished children across the world. He and members of his program later traveled to Peru to personally deliver the shoes to needy children.

Former volleyball standout Devika Bellamy took time to pose for a picture in downtown Indianapolis. The IUPUI campus is just west of downtown, a moving city of over 1.5 million in the metropolitan area.

Supporting intercollegiate athletics invests in our future by providing scholarship aid to student-athletes. In addition, intercollegiate athletics offers the student-athlete an opportunity to develop leadership, discipline, camraderie and initiative, while pursuing academic goals.

Over the course of a year, the JAC hosts numerous special events to help spur on the effort. The events allow IUPUI student-athletes, coaches and administrators the op- s Michael A. The events also help build a connection with IUPUI alumni and current Michael A. Carroll to the birth and development of the IUPUI Athletics program. For more than a decade, he student-athletes. was its number one advocate, fund-raiser and cheer- leader. In 1981, he organized what is now the Jaguars Athletics Club. A year later, he coordinated the IUPUI fund raising golf outing that now bears his name. Until his untimely death in a 1992 mid-air plane crash, the former Lilly Endowment executive nurtured, nudged and lassoed many Indianapolis business leaders to share his vision for a “big league” collegiate athletics program at IUPUI. Although he carried other enormous responsibilities in a civic and political career that spanned 25 years, IUPUI’s growth seemed to be Mike’s most enthusiastic avocation. IUPUI’s evolution into NCAA Division I status would have left him beaming. However, he would have been the first to remind us that IUPUI is still a masterpiece in progress, never a finished work of art!

IUPUI’s student-athletes and coaches take responsibility to the community and academics as seriously as their commitment to their team.
