PANTHER ATHLETIC MISSION STATEMENT: The Department of Athletics is committed to providing a competitive, culturally diverse, gender-equitable sports program that operates within the rules and regulations of Eastern Illinois University, the Ohio Valley Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The department strives to recruit academically sound student-athletes who have the desire and motivation to graduate and to become responsible citizens. Department of Athletics personnel and student-athletes shall act with honesty and sportsmanship at all times representing the honor and dignity of fair play and the universally recognized high standards associated with wholesome competitive sports. The intercollegiate athletics program is dedicated to a belief that athletic participation promotes the development of sportsmanship, good character, and a strong work ethic. The squads earned the distinction as a result of being the highest‐placing teams with at least a 3.00‐cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship, respectively. In addition, the USTFCCCA announced 90 squads as All‐Academic teams for the track & field seasons. Indoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year – BYU The Cougars of BYU finished as the third‐place team at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track &Field Championships, scoring 34 points with the help of three event titles. BYU has compiled a 3.22 cumulative team GPA through the spring 2011 semester. National Indoor Scholar‐Athlete of the Year Miles Batty won the mile and anchored the distance medley relay to a national title. Batty is one of ten Cougars that were named last week as All‐Academic individuals for the 2011 track & field seasons.     Across THE LANES NORTH Carolina LMSC Newsletter 2016 – summer/FALL st A 1 time for me! Editor's Note Wow, what a busy and interesting summer! There were so many exciting swimming events, including the inaugural USA Masters Games in Greensboro, which had participations from many of you across North Carolina. Of course I competed in the swimming events at the USA Masters Games, which our NCMS team took 1st place, but then I also challenged myself to the Road Racing and the Triathlon on that same weekend. That was a 1st time ever that I entered in a Triathlon! It was warm and challenging throughout that Sunday morning at Bryan Park's Lake Townsend. But I was determined to finish, Swim-Bike-Run; I completed the Triathlon! After scoring a nice medal and I sprinted back to the Greensboro Aquatic Center to finish up the weekend with more fun swimming in the pool. Thanks to all of you who have welcoming me to NCMS and who have taken time to accept my (friend) request to swim relays.
