Destination: Masurian Lake Distrikt The Mazurski Landscape Park embraces the central Mazurian Lake district, known as the “green lungs” of Poland. With numerous lakeside resorts in the area, this is the most popular holiday destination for Poles. With almost a third of its 50,000 hectares (124,000 acres) accounted for by water, the park has the largest number of lakes – more than 1,000 – in the region, many of which are linked by rivers and canals. The area contains national parks sheltering various rare species of flora and fauna. Lake ¸uknajno, near Mikolajki, is listed as a World Biosphere Reserve, and is a nesting ground for mute swans among other rare breeds. Only marked trails can be followed in this protected area. One of the best ways to explore the “Land of the Great Masurian Lakes” is by a locally hired yacht, canoe or kayak. The peaceful town of Mràgowo, with its 18th-and 19th-century architecture, is an ideal base, as is engaging Olsztyn. (Fra Insight guide to Poland - The masurian Lake District) The Mazury region, also known as the Land of the Great Masurian Lakes is situated around 250 km from Warsaw. The largest of the lakes are the Sniardwy and Mamry. The region is a true paradise for canoers and sailors. There is, however, also enough entertainment for both nature and history lovers. Krutyn is a small town in the Puszcza Piska (Pisz Forest), through which a river of the same name flows. This river, along with several lakes, creates the most picturesque kayak route in Poland. The next town worth touring is Popielno, situated right on the Sniardwy Lake - a lake so huge, that you cannot see the opposite bank. Mikolajki - the pearl of the region - is situated on 2 lakes - Mikolajki and Talty. The next Masurian holiday resort is the town of Gizycko (Lötzen). (Fra Visit Poland) Mikolajki town in the Masuria Lake area. Facts om den største sø; Sniardwy: Overflade 110 km2, Maks dybde 23.4 m, middeldybde 5.8 m, Normal range of annual water level fluctuation [m] 0.2-0.8 , Length of shoreline 91.3 km. The Krutynia kayak trail starts at Sorkwity. The length of the trail is 102 km, of which 60 km are still waters. Krutynia is one of the most scenic low- lying trails of Europe. The route leads through the Piska Forest and The Masurian Landscape Park. The kayaking course runs down the Krutynia River as well as across the Great Masurian Lake District. Scattered along the banks is a well-developed networks of riverside hostels and campsites. Such trips down Krutynia River are a huge attraction of the region, and the river itself is considered the most picturesque kayaking routes in Poland. That's why it remains very popular with lowland kayakers and is thus the most visited route in Masurian Region. To a great extent, primeval nature has been preserved here. (Fra Poland tours) Camping Jeg foreslår at campere følgende sted: Chata Iznota - one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe - Krutyń, before its end in Beldan Lake. 12-220 Ruciane Nida tel: 087 4257137, Camping, Tent field, Hay sleeping : Adults kom: 0609 520 105 - 10 PLN, Tent 5 PLN, Caravan - 15 PLN, lub 0606 477 104 Passenger car - 6 PLN. e-mail: [email protected] Alternativer: Campsites come in three categories and are usually open 15 May - 15 Sept. A number of unsupervised sites are located in picturesque lakeside spots or in forest, but with no amenities (faciliteter) (Fra: Insight compact guide Poland, 2004). Forslag fra nettet: Off-beat camping in Europe: My favorite campground sits on the edge of a mirror-like lake about 14 miles south of Mragowo on 602 then 610 outside the village of Ukta. Kruska Camping (423-1597). About 10 euros for two persons, car, and tent. The Krutynia kayak trail starts at Sorkwity. The campsites you pass on the way are: 1.Sorkwity, 2.Bienki, 3.Babieta 4.Spychowo 5.Zgon 6.Krutyn 7.Nowa Ukta 8.Kamien 9.Ruciane-Nida. All of them offer a place for your tent (Fra Mazury Sports Travel). When to go/climate Due to the country’s lengthy coastline, the climate in Poland varies between oceanic and continental. Therefore, weather conditions are subject to change. From May until October Poland enjoys beautiful weather. In March spring begins – a little windy and rainy and averaging -1–15°C. In May to June temperatures rise to 21°C and remain as such through the summer. August can be very warm with temperatures often climbing beyond 30°C.
