Job Description The University of Alberta Health Hub & Accelerator identifies and advances early-stage health commercial opportunities from , often derived from U of A researchers, faculty, and trainees. The program provides an environment for health entrepreneurship ventures to build, test, validate and grow through coaching, education and training, connections to resources and service providers, and a physical environment, including co-working and lab space in TEC Centre Labs (located in Enterprise Square in Edmonton's innovation corridor). This program helps entrepreneurs build their business skill set, and test and validate research and business models with the intent to support in the development of scalable businesses on a journey towards financing.

The Consultant - Health Innovation will work directly with the Manager in supporting the development and growth of the health tech companies participating in the Health Accelerator program (currently 12 in various sectors including biotech, pharmaceutical, medical devices, and digital health), as well as the opportunity to assist in building out Health Hub & Accelerator programming, events and reporting.

The position will work remotely in light of COVID-19 and if and when it becomes safe, may work out of TEC Centre Labs in the universities location.

Duties and Responsibilities This position will offer the successful student the opportunity to: ● The primary responsibility of this position is to support the companies participating in the Accelerator program by identifying areas of support and working directly with companies to address key milestones along their commercialization journey. Apply strong analytical skills to dig deep into research and large data sets to formulate effective strategies for companies. This work includes, but is not limited to: ○ Market Research ○ Customer Development & Discovery ○ Commercialization Plans ○ Financials ○ Business Planning ○ Business Modeling ○ Pitch development ○ Reviewing Grant Applications ○ Marketing & Communications ● Additional support to companies will include identifying programs, events, tools, funding and other resources that will support each company along their innovation journey ● Track and report progress and updates on companies for reporting and to ensure a high level of understanding of the companies as well recommending targeted resources and supports ● Work with the manager to lead the execution of relevant programs and events for companies including Monthly Meetups, Company Showcases, etc. ● Support on the communication and marketing strategy of the U of A Health Hub & Accelerator, including sharing company stories, success and being an advocate for the program ● Represent the U of A Health Hub & Accelerator at events and meetings as needed ● Develop and report on a personal learning plan as directed by BioTalent

Qualifications The successful Consultant - Health Innovation will have the following qualifications and skills: ● Be a current full‑time or part-time MBA student registered in a post‑secondary program in Canada, international students are not eligible ● Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. ● Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations. ● Consent to release employment information to BioTalent Canada and the periodically during the placement and after the end of the placement. ● Exceptional interpersonal skills necessary to interface with internal and external clients and stakeholders ● Well developed communication skills, both verbal and written ● Highly driven and motivated to take initiative in supporting companies and adding value to the UofA Health Hub & Accelerator program, ability to work independently ● Facilitation skills and the ability to work successfully in a team based setting. Ability to manage multiple priorities and change in a dynamic, fast paced work environment. ● Strong technical acumen as this is a remote position. Must have access to a computer, web camera, and stable internet. ● Strong analytical, problem-solving and creative skills ● Time management and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines ● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), GSuite (GMail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc), and software platforms such as Zoom, Slack, etc. ● Experience with working with startups, consulting with business or commercialization technology would be considered an asset and preferred
