Studi Terhadap Peran Sentral Syekh Burhanuddin Ulakan
Indonesian Journal of Islamic History and Culture Vol. 1, No. 2 (2020). 122-136 P-ISSN: 2722-8940; E-ISSN: 2722-8934 SEJARAH ISLAMISASI MINANGKABAU: STUDI TERHADAP PERAN SENTRAL SYEKH BURHANUDDIN ULAKAN Ridwan Arif Universitas Paramadina, Jakarta Email: [email protected] Abstract Sheikh Burhanuddin is known as a prominent Minangkabau scholar. The Islamization of Minangkabau is commonly associated with him. He is seen as a scholar succeeded in islamizing the Minang community. This study examines the role of Sheikh Burhanuddin in the process Islamization of Minangkabau. It examined the approaches and methods applied by Sheikh Burhanuddin in his efforts to Islamization. This study is a qualitative research, namely library research using the document analysis method. The results indicate that Syekh Burhanuddin was successful in his efforts to Islamize Minangkabau because he used the Sufism approach in his preaching, namely da'wah bi al-hikmah. This approach is implemented in the da'wah method, namely being tolerant of, and adopting local culture (Minangkabau customs and culture). Even further, Sheikh Burhanuddin succeeded in integrating Minangkabau customs with Islamic teachings. Ini karena ia dipandang sebagai ulama yang sukses mengislamkan masyarakat Minang. Studi ini mengkaji peran Syekh Burhanuddin dalam islamisasi menangkabau. Ia meneliti pendekatan dan metode-metode yang digunakan Syekh Burhanuddin dalam upaya islamisasi. Kajian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yaitu penelitian kepustakaan yang menggunakan metode dokumen analisis. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan Syekh Burhanuddin berhasil dalam upaya islamisasi Minangkabau karena menggunakan pendekatan tasawuf dalam dakwahnya yaitu da’wah bi al-hikmah. -

University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia [email protected] Abstraks: Berangkat dari pernyataan, penyebaran Islam merupakan proses yang sangat penting dalam sejarah Indonesia, tetapi juga yang paling tidak jelas. Maka merasa perlu untuk mengkaji kembali diskursus yang selalu meresahkan para sejarawan, yaitu dibawa oleh para wirausahawan atau para guru-guru tasawuf; wilayah mana di antara nusantara yang luas, sebagai daerah pertama yang menerima ajaran Islam; jaringan ulama’ dengan pusat Islam di Makkah dan Madinah; lalu korelasi seperti apa yang terjadi antara religi-intelektualisme Islam dengan pembaharuan Islam Nusantara di abad ke- 17 dan 18. Sehingga dari makalah ini diharapkan dapat menekankan sejarah-sosial serta intelektual yang kemudian dapat mereformulasi tradisi, sehingga tak lagi terabaikan seperti studi- studi terdahulu tentang peran para ulama’ di Nusantara untuk menjaga NKRI. Kajian ini merupakan pengkajian pustaka (library research), menggunakan jenis kualitatif dengan model historis faktual. Dari diskursus ini ditemukan, bahwa ulama’ atau kaum cendekiawan Muslim dianggap sebagai pihak yang bertanggung jawab, karena meletakkan dasar agama bagi sentimen anti-kolonial yang kemudian ditransformasi menjadi sebuah ideologi jihad yang berada dibalik pemberontakan melawan kolonial. Akhirnya dapat ditarik sebuah konklusi, yaitu para pelajar yang kembali dari Haramain tampaknya ada dua jenis, yakni mereka yang menentang ide-ide para reformis-Muslim dan mereka yang mendukung. Kata Kunci: al-Jawi, Haramain, Sosio-Religius dan Aktivisme. Integral-Universal Education: Analysis of M. Natsir’s Thoughts on Islamic Education Kasmuri Selamat Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim, Riau, Indonesia [email protected] Abstract. This paper aimed at exploring M. Natsir's thoughts on Islamic education. Using a qualitative study with a historical approach, the writer found that M. Natsir was a rare figure. He was not only a scholar but also a thinker, a politician, and an educator. As an educator, he not only became a teacher, but also gave birth to various educational concepts known as an integral and universal education concept. He was an architect and an anti-dichotomous thinker of Islamic education. According to Natsir, Islam did not separate spiritual matters from worldly affairs. The spiritual aspect would be the basis of worldliness. The foregoing indicated that religious ethics emphasized by Islamic teachings must be the foundation of life. The conceptual basis of "educational modernism" with tauhid as its foundation demonstrated that he was a figure who really cared about Islamic education. Keywords: Integral-Universal Education, M. Sumber data dari penelitian ini menggunakan sejumlah naskah yang berisi ajaran kedua tarekat, dan naskah-naskah ijazah dari kedua tarekat. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan sejarah sosial intelektual. Sedangkan untuk mengungkap kandungan naskah menggunakan metode Filologi dan Kodikologi. Berdasarkan penelaahan mendalam dari sumber-sumber dimaksud diperoleh temuan bahwa dari aspek kajian dan ajaran-ajarn, kedua tarekat ini pada dasarnya tidak memiliki banyak perbedaan. Perubahan pada ajaran tarekat Naqsyabandiyah terutama sedikit terlihat pada akhir abad IX. Kata kunci: Tarekat, Naqsyabandiyah, Syattariyah, Minangkabau. Abstract This article discusses the problematic of dynamic of two popular orders in Minangakabu, the Syattariyah and the Naqsyabandiyah. The data source of this research is a number of texts containing the teachings material of both tarekat, and degree documents from both tarekat. The research method uses qualitative methods with intellectual social history approach. Meanwhile, to explore the contents of the text, this research use the philology and kodikologi. Based on an in-depth study of the sources referred to, it was found that from the aspect of study and teachings, both of tarekat, basically did not have much differences. Changes to the teachings of the Naqshbandiyah order were particularly slight in the late IX century. -

This paper discusses one of Hamka’s great exegetical works. The focus is on his discussion of economic affairs in particular, capitalism, usury and corruption, in the selected text in particular those related to. A qualitative method is adopted in this paper in which selected documents are analysed. This paper found that Hamka has unique approaches in this respect that are closely related to the socio-cultural aspects of Indonesia. Again, like other exegetes, Hamka applies al-ijtima’i in his work. This method seeks to understand the Qur’an by studying its expressions carefully and elaborating their meanings beautifully and interesting style of language in the context of existing cultural system. There are some features regarding of this, both method and technique that should be noted here: First, on the method, most of the works of Tafsir in that time can be regarded as a method of Tafsir al-Ijtima’I for the characteristic of interpretation is a contextualization of Qur’anic verses as a reading of the reality of what happened in Indonesia. There is also a work that written in the method of Tafsir ‘Ilm. Not only by employing general model of Tafsir that have been used by previous Moslem scholars, but also some works import the western method of hermeneutic, that in fact yields controversial conclusion. -

The Genealogy of Muslim Radicalism in Indonesia THE GENEALOGY OF MUSLIM RADICALISM IN INDONESIA A Study of the Roots and Characteristics of the Padri Movement Abd A’la IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia Abstract: This paper will trace the roots of religious radicalism in Indonesia with the Padri movement as the case in point. It argues that the history of the Padri movement is complex and multifaceted. Nevertheless, it seems to be clear that the Padri movement was in many ways a reincarnation of its counterpart in the Arabian Peninsula, the Wahhabi> > movement, even though it was not a perfect replica of the latter. While the two shared some similarities, they were also quite different in other respects. The historical passage of the Padris was therefore not the same as that of the Wahhabi> s.> Each movement had its own dimensions and peculiarities according to its particular context and setting. Despite these differences, both were united by the same objective; they were radical in their determination to establish what they considered the purest version of Islam, and both manipulated religious symbols in pursuit of their political agendas. The people of the archipelago accepted the religion of Islam wholeheartedly without any pressure or compulsion. To a certain extent, these people even treated Islam as belonging to their own culture, seeing striking similarities between the new religion and existing local traditions. -

Especially in the initial period, namely the Padri movement, there was a tragedy of violence (radicalism) that accompanied it. This study becomes important, because after all the reformation of Islam began to be realized by reforming human life in the world. Both in terms of thought with the effort to restore the correct understanding of religion as it should, from the side of the practice of religion, namely by reforming deviant practices and adapted to the instructions of the religious texts (al- Qur'an and sunnah), and also from the side of strengthening power religion. In this case the research will be directed to the efforts of renewal by the Padri to the Youth towards the Islamic community in Minangkabau. To discuss this problem used historical research methods. Through this method, it is tested and analyzed critically the records and relics of the past. -

Islam in Minangkabau is known as egalitarian society. It is an open advice to anyone through local value (dimana bumi dipijak disitu langit dijunjung) and then expressed through a model of tolerance that is packaged in a cultural figure or more precisely the formula of social relationships naturally. Salah satu ajaran Islam, dakwah merupakan kewajiban yang dibebankan agama kepada pemeluknya. Gerakan D kaum Padri tersebut, berorientasi pada pembaruan tingkah laku masyarakat dan perbaikan moral masyarakat secara umum dan secara khusus berupaya menerapkan syari`ah yang bersumber dari al-Quran dan as-Sunnah. Menolong seseorang dalam hal apapun dan siapapun yang menolongnya serta di lakukan dengan ihklas, itu sudah merupakan suatu perbutan seseorang pahlawan. Jadi siapapun dapat dikatakan pahlawan jika seseorang tersebut melakukan perbuatan baik dan rela berkorban demi orang lain. Secara umum pahlawan mempunyai jangkauan luas dan berdampak nasionl yang memiliki konsistensi jiwa dan semangat kebangsaan dan nasionalisme yang tinggi, serta memiliki akhlak dan moral yang mulia.
