Band: Icon Of Evil (PL) Genre: Death Metal Label: PRC Music Albumtitle: Syfilis Mentalis Duration: 49:42 Releasedate: 27.05.2014 Already through the intro, the Polish of Icon Of Evil make obvious that they dedicated themselves fully to the Death Metal of the old school. Starting off by ravens croaking and a siren, it increases into a short instrumental, which slowly reminds through inserts of double-bass and dissonant riffs of the rolling Death Metal, how he's celebrated by Bolt Thrower. The first song "Wood Of The Cross" also reminds of the quicker Bolt Thrower's tracks. "We Come In Peace" bribes mainly through its rolling riffing and shows that seemingly also bands such as Asphyx and Hail Of Bullets served as influences for the band. Within the middle section it's getting faster and Blastbeats are also called into action, which provides the song further diversity. "Clog Your Mouths" bribes especially with its slow gloomy ending. During the process of the album, the band doesn't leave its path for a second, whereby we're already at the weak point of the album. In the long run the album gets monotonous. All in all the the album is held in the midtempo, here and there it's getting slighty blasted or it's getting somewhat doomy as in the style of Asphyx. However, that's not groundbreaking and basically you've already heard everything somewhere else. The vocals are also very usual for the genre. Growled parts alternate with screaming, which reminds lightly of the old Deicide. The production is also very designed for oldschool and reminds me of productions such as "Death... The Brutal Way" by Asphyx or "Of Frost And War" by Hail Of Bullets. Conclusion: "Syflis Mentalis" definetly became a solid piece of death metal of the old school. However, more than good entertainment shouldn't be expected, as the album won't be beared in mind for very long because of the fact that everything that's served is already known from somewhere else. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

The band disbanded when Hellhammer members Tom Gabriel Warrior and Martin Eric Ain went on to form Celtic Frost. Warrior has made it clear; Hellhammer will never return and will never be reformed. Still the music exists, and it is an extremely important part of Tom G. Warrior's life and extreme metal in general – widely credited as pioneers of extreme metal. Even if Hellhammer is a band of the past, Warrior had an urge to perform the classics on stage. This is when Triumph of Death became an reality. Triumph of Death is a band solely dedicated to perform the legendary music from Hellhammer.

Band: Bodyfarm (NL) Genre: Death Metal Label: Cyclone Empire Album Titel: Battle Breed Spielzeit: 45:19 VÖ: 06.11.2015 Wenn man an Death Metal aus den Niederlanden denkt, fallen einem direkt Bands wie Asphyx, Hail of Bullets, Gorefest oder die etwas Black Metal lastigere Band God Dethroned ein. Seit kurzem fällt hin und wieder auch mal der Name "Bodyfarm". Die Jungs lassen mit "Battle Breed" am 06.11.2015 bereits ihr drittes Album auf die metallische Gemeinde los, in welchem sie in etwa in die gleiche Kerbe schlagen, wie ihre Landsleute von Hail of Bullets oder auch Asphyx. Das mag zwar anfangs nach wenig Originalität klingen. Dass es jedoch nicht schlecht sein muss, wenn man die Einflüsse der Band deutlich heraushört, stellen Bodyfarm mit diesem Album definitiv unter Beweis. Das Album startet nach einem zwar ganz netten aber eher wenig spektakulären orchestralen Intro mit dem eigentlichen Opener "The Dark Age" auch direkt in ziemlich flottem Tempo durch und bietet alles, was der geneigte Fan erwartet. Der Song ist überwiegend im Uptempo gehalten, wobei zwischendurch auch kurz Blastbeats eingesetzt werden. Im Mittelteil wird kurz der Fuß vom Gaspedal genommen, um ein wenig Raum für Melodien und Double Bass zu lassen. Ein weiteres Schmankerl ist der Gastauftritt von Sänger Martin van Drunen, den ich wohl niemandem mehr vorstellen muss. Der macht seinen Job auch wie gewohnt sehr gut und bietet so das Sahnehäubchen auf dem ohnehin schon guten Opener. Die zu Beginn vorgegebene Marschrichtung wird auf dem Rest des Albums konsequent weiter verfolgt, womit die Jungs eindeutig zeigen, dass das Wort Vorhersehbarkeit nicht immer negativ behaftet sein muss.
