Band: Bodyfarm (NL) Genre: Death Metal Label: Cyclone Empire Album Titel: Battle Breed Spielzeit: 45:19 VÖ: 06.11.2015 Band: Bodyfarm (NL) Genre: Death Metal Label: Cyclone Empire Album Titel: Battle Breed Spielzeit: 45:19 VÖ: 06.11.2015 Wenn man an Death Metal aus den Niederlanden denkt, fallen einem direkt Bands wie Asphyx, Hail of Bullets, Gorefest oder die etwas Black Metal lastigere Band God Dethroned ein. Seit kurzem fällt hin und wieder auch mal der Name "Bodyfarm". Die Jungs lassen mit "Battle Breed" am 06.11.2015 bereits ihr drittes Album auf die metallische Gemeinde los, in welchem sie in etwa in die gleiche Kerbe schlagen, wie ihre Landsleute von Hail of Bullets oder auch Asphyx. Das mag zwar anfangs nach wenig Originalität klingen. Dass es jedoch nicht schlecht sein muss, wenn man die Einflüsse der Band deutlich heraushört, stellen Bodyfarm mit diesem Album definitiv unter Beweis. Das Album startet nach einem zwar ganz netten aber eher wenig spektakulären orchestralen Intro mit dem eigentlichen Opener "The Dark Age" auch direkt in ziemlich flottem Tempo durch und bietet alles, was der geneigte Fan erwartet. Der Song ist überwiegend im Uptempo gehalten, wobei zwischendurch auch kurz Blastbeats eingesetzt werden. Im Mittelteil wird kurz der Fuß vom Gaspedal genommen, um ein wenig Raum für Melodien und Double Bass zu lassen. Ein weiteres Schmankerl ist der Gastauftritt von Sänger Martin van Drunen, den ich wohl niemandem mehr vorstellen muss. Der macht seinen Job auch wie gewohnt sehr gut und bietet so das Sahnehäubchen auf dem ohnehin schon guten Opener. Die zu Beginn vorgegebene Marschrichtung wird auf dem Rest des Albums konsequent weiter verfolgt, womit die Jungs eindeutig zeigen, dass das Wort Vorhersehbarkeit nicht immer negativ behaftet sein muss. Besonders "Prince of Wallachia" mit seinen coolen Melodien, was mich ein wenig an neuere Unleashed erinnert, sticht sehr positiv heraus, ebenso wie das langsam und düster beginnende Stück "Firing Squad". Auch der Bonus Track der Limited Edition "Slaves Of War" dürfte live so manche Matte zum Kreisen bringen. Fazit: Bodyfarm haben mit "Battle Breed" ein starkes Stück Todesblei geschmiedet, das keinen Fan der alten Schule enttäuschen dürfte. Eine musikalische Revolution braucht man hier zwar nicht zu erwarten, sollte man bei einer Old School Death Metal Platte auch nicht.     Tragedy and Triumph Early Testimonies of Jewish Survivors of World War II Compiled and Translated by Freda Hodge ABOUT THIS BOOK In this collection Freda Hodge retrieves early voices of Holocaust survivors. Men, women and children relate experiences of deportation and ghetto­ isation, forced labour camps and death camps, death marches and liber­ ation. Such eye­witness accounts collected in the immediate post­war period constitute, as the historian Feliks Tych points out, the most important body of Jewish documents pertaining to the history of the Holocaust. The fresh­ ness of memory makes these early voices profoundly different from, and historically more significant than, later recollections gathered in oral history programs. Carefully selected and painstakingly translated, these survivor accounts were first published between 1946 and 1948 in the Yiddish journal Fun Letzten Khurben (‘From the Last Destruction’) in postwar Germany, by refugees waiting in ‘Displaced Persons’ camps, in the American zone of occupation, for the arrival of travel documents and visas. These accounts have not previously been available in English. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Freda Hodge holds degrees in English, Linguistics and Jewish Studies, and has taught at universities and colleges in South Africa and Australia. Fluent in Hebrew as well as Yiddish, she works at the Holocaust Centre in Melbourne conducting interviews with survivors and families. De band rondom frontman Cedric Bixler (vocals) en Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar/vocals) stopte er in 2001 mee na acht jaar en viel uiteen in twee fantastische andere bands: The Mars Volta én Sparta. In 2012 kwam tot grote vreugde van velen (waaronder ikzelf) het bericht dat At The Drive-In weer bij elkaar kwam. Vorig jaar heb ik ze weer live mogen zien in de Melkweg en dat was als vanouds, ontzettend energiek en hard. Nu is het eindelijk tijd voor het eerste studiealbum in 17 jaar tijd, 'In•ter a•li•a' bestaat uit elf nummers met een klassieke At The Drive-In intensiteit die het wachten meer dan waard was. Ayreon –_ The Source 2CD+DVD/2LP/Boxset Met het album 'The Source' voegt Arjen Lucassen een nieuw hoofdstuk aan zijn indrukwekkende Ayreon oeuvre toe, waarvoor hij de basis midden jaren '90 al legde. 'The Source' biedt hetzelfde als waar Ayreon zijn toegewijde fans aan te danken heeft, namelijk een indrukwekkende cast bestaande uit de beste zangers en zangeressen, topmuzikanten, meeslepende songs, een overweldigend geluid en een intrigerend verhaal.     Scalpture is a death metal band from Bielefeld / Germany and was founded in 2009 by Felix Marbach (guitar), Anselm Heise (bass), Max Cailloud (drums) and Thorsten Pieper (vocals). With the addition of a guitarist, the band currently consists of the two founding members Felix Marbach (guitar), Thorsten Pieper (vocals), Niklas Neuwöhner (bass), Tobias Aselmann (guitar) and Moritz Nixdorf (drums). Scalpture is playing classic Death Metal and are often compared by the press to bands like Bolt Thrower, Asphyx and Hail of Bullets. Their lyrics deal with the topic of war and war experience. After a demo in 2010, Scalpture released their first EP “Border Crossing” in 2015. In 2016 followed the debut album "Panzerdoktrin", which was released via Final Gate Records. The album received consistently positive feedback on renowned online platforms and in the relevant music magazines. In 2019 the band signed with the famous German underground label FDA Records and released their second album “Eisenzeit” in 2020. It is a story set to music about the atrocities of the First World War, with the "Eisenzeit" being anything but a dull glorification of armed conflicts or of heroic violence. Instead, it dives much deeper into this topic. From a compositional point of view, mini-epics such as the two-part 'The Storm Ebbs into Stalemate' or the clinking melodic 'Yperite' atmosphere are at the fore, while front man Thorsten seems to be exhausting himself almost as if he was going through the tribulation of the soldiers during WW I. In any case, his meaningful narrative is frighteningly relevant to the present; one only needs to hear the anthemic elegy 'Hinterlandsymphonie', the dramatic finale 'All Quiet on the Western Front' and in particular the blastbeat inferno '…und Ehre ist’s' that questions old morals to see that we obviously do not learn from past mistakes.
