Warrior, from Celtic Frost and Triptykon, started back in 1982 a band called Hellhammer. The band existed for a mere two years, from May 1982 to May 1984. During this time, the band released three demos, one 12-inch EP, and two songs on the legendary "Death Metal" compilation album. The band disbanded when Hellhammer members Tom Gabriel Warrior and Martin Eric Ain went on to form Celtic Frost. Warrior has made it clear; Hellhammer will never return and will never be reformed. Still the music exists, and it is an extremely important part of Tom G. Warrior's life and extreme metal in general – widely credited as pioneers of extreme metal. Even if Hellhammer is a band of the past, Warrior had an urge to perform the classics on stage. This is when Triumph of Death became an reality. Triumph of Death is a band solely dedicated to perform the legendary music from Hellhammer. We can't wait to bring this band out on stage at Inferno Metal Festival 2020! https://www.facebook.com/HellhammerTriumphOfDeath/ AMORPHIS Amorphis started all the way back in 1990 – making them one of the pioneer within the Finnish death metal genre. Amorphis' music has turned more melodic over the years – spanning over a wide set of genres – including doom death, progressive metal, folk metal and power metal. The band has many classics under the belt, like “Black Winter Day”, “My Kantele”, “Silver Bride”, “Death of a King” and their biggest hit “House of Sleep”. Their latest album “Queen of Time” is pure ear candy and includes their latest hit “The Bee”. The line-up today includes all original members from 1990. We can't wait to have this great band at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time. https://www.facebook.com/amorphis/ ASPHYX Asphyx is a Dutch death metal band that was formed in 1987. Their classic style of death doom metal is very dark, obscure, morbid and brutal. The band release some legendary albums in the early 90s, like “The Rack” in 1991, “Last One on Earth” in 1992 and “Asphyx” in 1994. The band split up in 1996, but the members continued as Soulburn. After several years the band was back together and have by now recorded nine studio albums. The last one is “Incoming Death” from 2016 and it shows a band that still know how to make music brutal with no compromises. This will be the legendary death metal band ASPHYX' first appearance at Inferno Metal Festival! https://www.facebook.com/officialasphyx/ ORANSSI PAZUZU Oranssi Pazuzu was formed in Finland in 2007. Two years later their debut album “Muukalainen Puhuu” was released to great acclaim. By now the band has released four studio albums and one live album. The live album, “Live at Roadburn 2017” was released October 2019 and shows a band with a lot of diversity and strength. Oranssi Pazuzu went full psychomania at Inferno Metal Festival 2014 and we are happy to have them back in 2020. https://www.facebook.com/Oranssi-pazuzu-58437793552/ THE GREAT OLD ONES The Great Old Ones are a French post-black metal band that was formed in 2009. The Great Old Ones is deities in the H. P. Lovecraft fantasy universe. The band has by now released four albums. Their new record is called “Cosmicism” and will be released on the 22nd of October. This will be The Great Old Ones first gig on Norwegian soil. https://www.facebook.com/thegreatoldones/ INFERNO METAL FESTIVAL 2020 Inferno Metal Festival 2020 marks the 20 years anniversary of the festival. PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Now they are back – stronger than ever! After five years the band has returned and will unleash their madness at Inferno Metal Festival 2020! https://www.facebook.com/djervmusic/ BÖLZER Attention came quickly to Switzerland's Bölzer after their 2012 demo “Roman Acupuncture” and subsequent EP “Aura” in 2013 due to their ability to create fascinating black metal melodies and dissonant structures with only two members in the band. • Hipster Black Metal?
Hipster Black Metal? Deafheaven’s Sunbather and the Evolution of an (Un) popular Genre Paola Ferrero A couple of months ago a guy walks into a bar in Brooklyn and strikes up a conversation with the bartenders about heavy metal. The guy happens to mention that Deafheaven, an up-and-coming American black metal (BM) band, is going to perform at Saint Vitus, the local metal concert venue, in a couple of weeks. The bartenders immediately become confrontational, denying Deafheaven the BM ‘label of authenticity’: the band, according to them, plays ‘hipster metal’ and their singer, George Clarke, clearly sports a hipster hairstyle. Good thing they probably did not know who they were talking to: the ‘guy’ in our story is, in fact, Jonah Bayer, a contributor to Noisey, the music magazine of Vice, considered to be one of the bastions of hipster online culture. The product of that conversation, a piece entitled ‘Why are black metal fans such elitist assholes?’ was almost certainly intended as a humorous nod to the ongoing debate, generated mainly by music webzines and their readers, over Deafheaven’s inclusion in the BM canon. The article features a promo picture of the band, two young, clean- shaven guys, wearing indistinct clothing, with short haircuts and mild, neutral facial expressions, their faces made to look like they were ironically wearing black and white make up, the typical ‘corpse-paint’ of traditional, early BM. It certainly did not help that Bayer also included a picture of Inquisition, a historical BM band from Colombia formed in the early 1990s, and ridiculed their corpse-paint and black cloaks attire with the following caption: ‘Here’s what you’re defending, black metal purists.

  • Identity, Cosmopolitanism and Education in Extreme Metal Bands: the Case of Finland
Historia y Memoria de la Educación 12 (2020): 303-332 Sociedad Española de Historia de la Educación ISSN: 2444-0043 DOI: 10.5944/hme.12.2020.26507 IDENTITY, COSMOPOLITANISM AND EDUCATION IN EXTREME METAL BANDS: THE CASE OF FINLAND Identidad, cosmopolitismo y educación en las bandas de metal extremo: el caso de Finlandia Eugenio Otero Urtazaα Reception date: 22/01/2020 • Acceptation date: 08/03/2020 Abstract. Music is an art that often defines the education and values of peo- ple. Extreme Metal is a controversial musical genre that at times, in some of its subgenres, has caused episodes of exceptional violence. Metalheads make up a cultural movement that is present on all conti- nents. Metal movements are difficult to dissolve in the magma of social acceptance: they create a consciousness of transnational solidarity, of response to waste and ostentation that destroys the planet, while claim- ing the place in which it is lived. Extreme Metal is not an artistic fashion, it is profoundly changing the mentality of many young people who reject the social organisation of the capitalist and Christian world and try to find alternatives for the future. In this article we ask how their convic- tions are formed and in what way the school’s teachings influence them. One of the ways of studying the phenomenon is by analysing the lyrics of the songs. Not all subgenres can be covered and three Melodic Death Metal bands from Finland have been chosen for study, especially in rela- tion to their feelings about nature and the cosmos. It is evident that their songs are often based on classical and popular poems learned at school, by the legacy left by the great Finnish poets, and even by the literary cre- ations of musicians for that school resonance.

Nos referimos, obviamente, al llamado “doom metal”, el cual nace 4Q(.&12*39*=(43=1&=5:'1.(&(.3=*3=+33+=)*=1&=4'7&=2&,3&=)*=1&='&3)&= británica Paradise Lost, y titulado, de forma evidentemente reveladora, Gothic.
