Administration of Barack Obama, 2013 Remarks at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa June 30, 2013 President Obama. Thank you. Please, please, everybody, have a seat. Hello, Cape Town! Audience members. Hello! President Obama. Thobela. Molweni. Sanibona. Dumelang. Ndaa. Reperile. Audience members. Reperile! President Obama. See, I've been practicing. How-zit? Did I leave anybody out? All right, I didn't want to leave anybody out here. I want to thank Vice Chancellor Max Price, who's here, and—as well as Archbishop Njongonkulu. It's wonderful to have them in attendance. I am so happy to be here today. It is wonderful to see all of these outstanding young people. I just had the honor of going to Robben Island with Michelle and our two daughters this afternoon. And this was my second time; I'd had the chance to visit back in 2006. But there was something different about bringing my children. And Malia is now 15, Sasha is 12, and seeing them stand within the walls that once surrounded Nelson Mandela, I knew this was an experience that they would never forget. I knew that they now appreciated, a little bit more, the sacrifices that Madiba and others had made for freedom. But what I also know is, is that because they've had a chance to visit South Africa for a second time now, they also understand that Mandela's spirit could never be imprisoned, because his legacy is here for all to see. It's in this auditorium: young people, Black, White, Indian, everything in between—[laughter]—living and learning together in a South Africa that is free and at peace.

  • We're Still Celebrating!
We're Still Celebrating! Over the past few months, there have been many articles written about how people around the world have experienced an enormous sense of loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we put this issue of the Herzlia Headlines together I can't help but feel this too. We were all looking so forward to 2020. A year ago, we commenced preparations and plans for our 80th birthday celebrations. What a programme we had. We started with the Kolhakolot Carnival, which was really the old fashioned Herzlia fete, but on steroids. Less than two weeks later we shut the schools down. The long weekend in August was going to be the primary focus for the remainder of our celebrations with Shabbat services and brochas in all our shuls, school parties where we would have invited alumni, past teachers and parents, alumni reunions at our schools, talks and debates, old boys sports matches and the highlight: Feel the Beat at the CTICC. Due to our 'New Normal', we have had to re-look what we are doing and how we are doing it. It is important that everyone is part of our celebrations. Feel the Beat is going ahead, but in a different format. We will be using the technology available to us to produce a musical Herzlia journey. Because it will not be a live performance it has allowed us to feature our overseas alumni together with our pupils. So SAVET HE DATE! On Sunday 25 October 2020 we will be showcasing Celebrating 80 -The Musical Movie.
