Electronics & Instrumentation CAREER GUIDE 1 Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering

Introduction Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is a specialised branch of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, primarily focussing on the principles and operations of measur- ing instruments used in the design and configuration of automated systems. Instrumen- tation technology helps create, construct and maintain measuring and control devices and systems found in manufacturing plants and research institutions. Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is the basis of mechatronics and robotics engineering. Its main objective is to ensure that systems and processes operate safely and efficiently. An instrumentation is responsible for designing, developing, install- ing, managing and maintaining equipment’s which are used to monitor and control engi- neering systems, machinery and processes. This is a multi-disciplinary stream and covers subjects from various branches such as chemical, mechanical, electrical, electronics, biomedical and computers. This helps in switching to other disciplines, if anyone wishes to, after completion of the Course. Instru- mentation engineering is a specialised branch and it deals with measurement, control and of processes. Control and Optimization is another important criterion in many Industries. Electronics and Instrumentation having good exposure in these areas will be highly effective in solving various critical needs of the Industries. Electronics engi- neers have to ensure that the quality and speed of the network is maintained consistently and they strive to remain updated with the technological advancements that are taking place in this field. At the same time, their demand has increased in the medical field as they have to develop medical equipment which is of high quality and can be efficiently used by doctors.
