Cortinarioid Fungi of New Zealand I
Karl Soop Cortinarioid Fungi of New Zealand i Cortinarioid Fungi of New Zealand An Iconography and Key Eleventh Revised Edition Introduction Preface This book is intended as one small step towards bridging an obvious gap in the literature on New Zealand fungi, viz. colour illustrations and descriptions of dark-spored agaricoid and gastroid species that grow in native forests. During many study visits to the country I have repeatedly experienced the need for such a publication, a need that stems from the following observations: • The target group of fungi is well represented in New Zealand. During parts of the season it dominates the mycoflora in vast areas of the native forests. • At the same time these species are poorly known. Only a modest number have been named, described, and published, and even fewer have been illustrated in colour. In Europe and other parts of the world many cortinarioid fungi have proven critical as indicators of valuable biotopes and areas worthy of conservation. There is evidence that this also applies to New Zealand, which adds to the incentive to explore the target group and its role within the ecology of the region. It is my hope that the book will inspire resident mycologists to continue studies of this important and fascinating subject. It is evident that much remains to be done and that many new species will be discovered. This book must therefore be seen as provisional in the sense that it will be subject to periodical updates as new data become available. Inevitably, also some names will be provisional, used as working names or as tentative identification, until they are later confirmed or perhaps amended. -

Abstract: A compilation study has been made of the mycorrhizal Agaricomycetes from several sclerophyllous and deciduous Mediterranean Quercus woodlands from Iberian Peninsula. Firstly, we selected eight Mediterranean taxa of the genus Quercus, which were well sampled in terms of macrofungi. Afterwards, we performed a database containing a large amount of data about mycorrhizal biota of Quercus. We have defined and/or used a series of indexes (occurrence, affinity, proportionality, heterogeneity, similarity, and taxonomic diversity) in order to establish the differences between the mycorrhizal biota of the selected woodlands. The 605 taxa compiled here represent an important amount of the total mycorrhizal diversity from all the vegetation types of the studied area, estimated at 1,500–1,600 taxa, with Q. ilex subsp. ballota (416 taxa) and Q. suber (411) being the richest. We also analysed their quantitative and qualitative mycorrhizal flora and their relative richness in different ways: woodland types, substrates and species composition. The results highlight the large amount of mycorrhizal macrofungi species occurring in these mediterranean Quercus woodlands, the data are comparable with other woodland types, thought to be the richest forest types in the world. -

Florule Evolutive Des Basidiomycotina Du Finistere
Alain GERAULT FLORULE EVOLUTIVE DES BASIDIOMYCOTINA DU FINISTERE HOMOBASIDIOMYCETES RUSSULALES Septembre 2005 Version 2.1 2 AVERTISSEMENT Il ne s’agit pas à proprement parler d’une flore mais d’une liste commentée et descriptive des espèces d’AGARICOMYCETIDEAE trouvées dans le Finistère. Elle est destinée à servir de base à la réalisation de l’inventaire des champignons du Finistère dans le cadre de l’inventaire national. Si l’étude des champignons “ supérieurs ” du Finistère a commencé dés le 19 ème siècle avec les mycologues Morlaisiens et Brestois, leurs travaux sont cependant difficilement exploitables. En effet la mycologie était encore balbutiante à l’époque et il est souvent très difficile de se faire une idée des espèces dont il est fait mention. A l’heure actuelle, la mycologie évolue beaucoup et il est indispensable de fixer, au moins provisoirement, les interprétations retenues pour les espèces déterminées. C’est donc dans ce but, que nous avons réalisé ce relevé des espèces signalées dans le Finistère, selon la nomenclature moderne et selon notre interprétation, qu’il sera aisé de corriger si elle s’avère erronée ou si elle doit être modifiée. Cette florule est enregistrée de manière électronique ce qui lui permet d’être réellement évolutive en quelques instants. Ce relevé étant incomplet nous avons adopté le terme de “ Florule évolutive ” pour bien montrer que beaucoup reste à faire et qu’elle doit être complétée et corrigée en permanence. Cette florule est destinée à tous les mycologues du Finistère (et d’ailleurs) qui voudront bien la considérer seulement comme une base de travail commune pour tenter de se mettre d’accord sur les interprétations à donner à certaines espèces critiques (hélas nombreuses !). -

Fungal Defense Against Mycophagy in Milk Caps

Vol. 60, pp. 1–10, 2016 Fungal defense against mycophagy in milk caps Ira TASKIRAWATI and Nobuko TUNO⇤ Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology Kanazawa University, Kanazawa 920-1192, Japan (Received February 9, 2016 and accepted in revised form February 25, 2016) Abstract Some Basidiomycetes exude latex, but very little is known about the nature of fungal latex. In this study, we examined the nature of latex in Lactarius Pers. 1797 spp. to clarify the role on fungivorous predation. In the field, we compared the degree of preda- tion on taxonomically closely related latex-exuding Lactarius spp. and latex-non-exuding Russula Pers. 1796 spp. (Russulaceae) at developmental stages of sporocarps. We clarified that Russula spp. suffered more infestation than did Lactarius spp. at young and mature developmental stages, whereas Lactarius spp. did only at decaying stages. We measured the amount of latex exuded varied according to developmental stage and sporocarps parts in Lactarius spp.: mature sporocarps exuded more latex than did younger ones, while decaying sporocarps exuded the least, and the same patterns were observed at sporocarps parts: the amount of latex was more intense at hymenophore and cap than at stripe. At feeding exper- iments, three-band garden slugs Ambigolimax valentianus Ferussac,´ 1822 avoided feeding on sporophores of Lactarius spp. when they exuded latex, but fed on them when they did not. Our observations suggest that fungivores generally escape higher density of the latex at feeding using signs volatized by sporophores with exuding latex. Key words.
