IOWA PUBLIC RADIO ANNOUNCES AWARD WINNERS

Iowa Public Radio announced today that reporters Amy Mayer, Sarah Boden, Rick Fredericksen, and John Pemble have received awards of merit from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association (MBJA).

In the MBJA’s regional “Eric Sevareid Awards” competition, Mayer received her award in the “General Reporting” category, for her coverage of the avian flu epidemic in the Midwest last year. Boden’s award came in the “Hard News” category, for a story titled, “Transgender Life in Smalltown Iowa.” Fredericksen and Pemple collaborated on a story titled, “Audio Letters from the Vietnam War,” which won an award in the “Best Use of Audio” category.

MBJA represents local and network news agencies in the Midwest region, including North and South Dakota, , Iowa, , and Wisconsin. Radio, television and online news managers from markets outside of the NBNA region judged the entries in February and March 2016.
