To All KAPAP Academy – Krav Panim El Panim family and friends, As you all know our last training was organized by our Holland representative Mr. William Paardekooper on Curacao Island . We had a great time and found really great great friends and new members for the KAPAP family. In this personal newsletter, I want to share our experiences with you. On my behalf and Albert Timen. On the island we found Rabbi Ariel Yeshurun, a great friend who was kind enough to host us and give us a tour of the old Curaco Island Synagogue, certainly the most impressive thing Albert and I have seen in last few years. I’ve attached a few pictures to share with you: first you will see the training, followed by some photos from our Curacao student Paul hard at work on an oil platform on the Caspian Sea, and finally a few impressive pictures from our tour of the synagogue in Curacao. He served as an interpreter on board the Dutch fleet under the command of Johan van Walbeeck, which conquered the island from the Spanish in 1634. A few years later, in 1651, Joao d’Ylan brought 10 to 12 Jewish families from the Amsterdam Portuguese community to Curaçao and established Congregation Mikvé Israel; they lived on Plantation ‘De Hoop’ (‘The Hope’) and worked the land.

The Mainstream Right, the Far Right, and Coalition Formation in Western Europe by Kimberly Ann Twist A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley Committee in charge: Professor Jonah D. Levy, Chair Professor Jason Wittenberg Professor Jacob Citrin Professor Katerina Linos Spring 2015 The Mainstream Right, the Far Right, and Coalition Formation in Western Europe Copyright 2015 by Kimberly Ann Twist Abstract The Mainstream Right, the Far Right, and Coalition Formation in Western Europe by Kimberly Ann Twist Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science University of California, Berkeley Professor Jonah D. Levy, Chair As long as far-right parties { known chiefly for their vehement opposition to immigration { have competed in contemporary Western Europe, scholars and observers have been concerned about these parties' implications for liberal democracy. Many originally believed that far- right parties would fade away due to a lack of voter support and their isolation by mainstream parties. Since 1994, however, far-right parties have been included in 17 governing coalitions across Western Europe. What explains the switch from exclusion to inclusion in Europe, and what drives mainstream-right parties' decisions to include or exclude the far right from coalitions today? My argument is centered on the cost of far-right exclusion, in terms of both office and policy goals for the mainstream right. I argue, first, that the major mainstream parties of Western Europe initially maintained the exclusion of the far right because it was relatively costless: They could govern and achieve policy goals without the far right.

Voluntary Report – Voluntary - Public Distribution Date: October 13,2020 Report Number: NL2020-0046 Report Name: Dutch Government Increases Agricultural Budget Country: Netherlands Post: The Hague Report Category: Agricultural Situation, Agriculture in the Economy, Agriculture in the News Prepared By: Marjolein Selten Approved By: Christopher Riker Report Highlights: The Dutch government has presented its budget for the next annual budget cycle (which begins on January 1, 2021). In recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture’s budget has increased sharply -- from €0.8 billion in 2018 to more than €2 billion for 2021. The government has identified four key areas in which it wants to invest: 1) structural measures to address nitrogen pollution, 2) a national protein strategy, 3) sustainable European agricultural production, and 4) continued development of a sustainable livestock sector and improved animal welfare. Through these policy goals, the Ministry hopes to provide clarity and perspective to farmers in terms of future policies. Parliamentary discussions on the 2021 budget revealed that not all Ministers of Parliament were in agreement with some of the proposed policies, particularly the proposal to address nitrogen emissions. THIS REPORT CONTAINS ASSESSMENTS OF COMMODITY AND TRADE ISSUES MADE BY USDA STAFF AND NOT NECESSARILY STATEMENTS OF OFFICIAL U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICY Background On September 15, 2020, the Dutch center-right government, led by Prime Minister Rutte, presented its 2021 budget. Next year’s budget cycle (which begins on January 1, 2021) will be dominated by the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, as well as by the government’s desire to cut taxes and increase spending.

Stolle Singleton, Jayaraj Sundaresan and Terry Townshend www.lse.ac.uk/GranthamInstitute/legislation/ Climate Change Legislation – Netherlands Netherlands Legislative Process As a constitutional monarchy, the key institutions in the Netherland’s legislative process are the Upper House (Senate) of the Parliament, with 75 members elected by the 12 provinces, and the Lower House (House of Representatives) with 150 directly elected members. Elections for both Houses take place at least every four years. Senate elections last took place in 2011 and the next is planned for 2015. The last election for the House of Representatives was held in 2012 and the next is expected to take place in 2016. Besides the national government, the provinces and 441 municipalities are also major actors, particularly in implementing the outcomes of the legislative process. Legislation can be introduced by one or more members of the government or one or more members of the Lower House. Draft laws (bills) usually originate from recommendations either by a royal commission or a parliamentary committee. Once the preparatory work is completed by one or more ministries, the bill is discussed in the Cabinet. If accepted, it is sent to the Monarch’s secretariat, in their capacity as Head of State. From there the bill is sent to the Council of State (of which the Monarch is the President) for advice.

  • The Value of Cooperation the Value of Cooperation Innovation in Dutch Security in Perspective
The Value of Cooperation The Value of Cooperation The Value of Cooperation Innovation in Dutch Security in Perspective The Value of Cooperation Innovation in Dutch Security in Perspective The Hague Security Delta Foreword The Netherlands is a country of contrasts. Small in size, yet it is the 24th largest economy in the world, and has the 18th highest GDP per capita income.1 At the same time, the Netherlands is also among the most liberal social democracies in the world, ranking among the world’s best ‘global citizens’.2 It is a society that has proven to be largely resilient in the face of security challenges--not just physical, but also social, economic and in cyber, to name a few. But this is no reason to become complacent. On the contrary: one of the key challenges we face now is how to prepare for the security risks of today and tomorrow whilst protecting the Dutch way of life: safe, secure, harmonious, and prosperous. Meeting these challenges is not an easy task. First of all, it requires that we have a grasp of the broad spectrum of potential security risks—both nationally and internationally. It means that we recognise the various security concerns that citizens worry about, those that are visible and those that are less visible. Some of these concerns may very well extend beyond, and sometimes even contradict, traditional state security concerns. It also requires an appreciation of the capabilities that we already have, and the capabilities that we can and should further harness to safeguard our security. The key to staying ahead of the curve in this regard is to make sure that we work together: business, citizens, civil society, knowledge institutes and the government at various levels.3 What is more, while security can be instrumental in safeguarding our prosperity, security innovation in itself can also be an engine for economic growth.

  • The Second World War in the Caribbean
Caribbean THINK BOOK for 4 and 5 May TEACHER’S GUIDE 2 THINK BOOK Connecting he National Committee for 4 and 5 May creates educational material about commemorating, celebrating, remembering, and freedom. For T years, the committee has published the 4 and 5 May Think Book in the Netherlands, for children in primary education. Because we have an eye for similarities and pay attention to di erences, we realized that we needed to do more justice to events and conditions in the Caribbean parts of the kingdom. That is why we made a fi rst special Caribbean edition of the 4 and 5 May Think Book in 2018. Three years later, we are publishing a new Caribbean edition. In recent years, we have had many conversations with the users of the Think Book on the islands. We have used this input and our experience to improve the Caribbean Think Book and have it tie in even better to the stories that live on the islands. As a result of our experience with the Caribbean Think Book, we have also adapted the edition for the Netherlands. Children in the Netherlands are now also learning a lot more about what happened on the Antillean islands during the Second World War. They can read about how young men such as George Maduro of Curaçao and Boy Ecury of Aruba fought for freedom in the Netherlands. And they hear about the crucial role the oil from Curaçao and Aruba played in ending the Second World War and what sacrifi ces the residents of the islands made for it.
