Fangio regresa a la Argentina luego de su agotadora gira europea, para volar a México e intervenir all en la IV Edicin de la Carrera Panamericana integrando el Equipo ancia. Est# habilitado por un permiso especial de Maserati, no presente en esta prueba que es v#lida para el Campeonato Mundial de Marcas. a Carrera Panamericana con sus m#s de 1900 millas, comenz su historial en 19,0 y para esta nueva edicin, ancia presenta un fuerte equipo con Fangio, Felice .onetto, Piero Taruffi, Eugenio Castellotti y 0iovanni .racco, respaldados por una gran organizacin de asistencia en carrera. Ser# controlado directamente por 0ianni ancia hi1o de Vicenzo, con Atilio Pasquarelli a su lado como 2irector de Carrera. Ferrari también se traslada a México con sus potentes y veloces m#quinas 12 cilindros de 4,00 cc, confiados a 5mberto Maglioli, uigi Chinetti, Mario Ricci, Antonio Stagnoli y 0uido Mancini. Fangio Fgran estratega- al analizar las dificultades del camino, se manifiesta preocupado por los neum#ticos. Su idea se basa en mantener un ritmo de equipo con diferencias de cronometra1e ba1o control. os autos se preparan en la carburacin para 3000 metros de altura. Se lanza la Primera Etapa entre Tuxtla 0utiérrez y Oaxaca, sobre ,30 Bm, a partir de la C de la ma?ana y aparece el dominio de ancia, cuya estrategia es la de lograr diferencias en la zona sinuosa, ya que reconocan de antemano que las Ferrari seran m#s veloces y que lograran diferencias en las largas rectas de las %ltimas Etapas. argan con intervalos de 1H y .onetto marca el ritmo de la etapa, gan#ndola sobre Taruffi y Fangio. El promedio del vencedor es de 1,2,7 BmIh y la diferencia es de 2H y 3H con respecto al segundo y tercero. a me1or Ferrari es la de Maglioli Fquinta- a 9H. 8umerosos accidentes ocurridos fueron debidos en parte, a los fuertes vientos laterales en algunos sectores de monta?a. A poco de largar, se matan Stagnoli y su acompa?ante Scotuzzi, al salirse violentamente del camino la Ferrari que piloteaban. Tras varios vuelcos el auto estall en llamas. En ese mismo lugar, seis espectadores murieron al ser embestidos, cuando rodeaban a un auto accidentado. 2urante las tres horas que posibilita el Reglamento, los 22 mec#nicos de ancia traba1an meticulosamente en la puesta a punto de los autos y mont#ndoles las nuevas Pirelli Corsa. a Segunda Etapa de 407 Bm a Puebla se larga de acuerdo al orden de llegada. Taruffi se lanza a descontar diferencias tras .onetto. Maglioli también interviene en la lucha, logrando solo desplazar al ancia de .racco y finalizando cuarto detr#s de Taruffi F el ganador - .onetto y Fangio. uego clasifican Castellotti ( ancia), Manzini (Ferrari), ucas (0ordini C cil.) y Rosier (Talbot) El mismo da -luego de slo 30H de neutralizacin en Puebla- se corre la Tercera Etapa de 128 kilmetros desde Puebla hasta ciudad de México. 5na corta pero tortuosa etapa. Fangio est# tercero, cuando accidentalmente se abre la tapa del tanque de aceite que mo1a una de las ruedas traseras. Su m#quina pierde adherencia y se proyecta en derrape hasta pegar contra una piedra da?ando el puente 2e 2ion, pero logra llegar a México a marcha reducida. Despiste de Fangio en la tercera etapa Taruffi vuelve a vencer, pero en la Clasificacin 0eneral est# puntero .onetto, que lo sigue en el camino, delante de Maglioli. Fangio ha perdido ,H en el tramo. El arribo de las m#quinas a la ciudad de Mexico es espectacular, con una multitud en sus calles. Traba1ando tres horas en que el Reglamento permite reparacin, los mec#nicos de1an su auto en perfectas condiciones para encarar también en un da, la Cuarta Etapa de México a en de 420 Bm y la Luinta Etapa de en a 2urango de ,3C Bm. Antes de largar la Cuarta Etapa, Fangio sale a recorrer la ruta 1unto a .onetto y en el trayecto, le aconse1a que de1e que Taruffi siga al frente en el camino, que solo se preocupe de pegarse a él y mantener los 40M de venta1a que tiene logrados. Pero .onetto no lo escuchaba. Estaba encaprichado en lograr el primer puesto también en el camino, manteniendo un duelo sin sentido con su compa?ero de equipo. Na finalizando la recorrida, es al atravesar el pueblo de Silao cuando Fangio le se?ala un #rea de peligro en su calle principal empedrada y revisan dos vados muy profundos, que deben ser abordarlas con cuidado. .onetto marca los lugares con colores azul y blanco del equipo. a primera marca est# a 300 metros de distancia del primer vado muy profundo. Cumplidas entonces las tres primeras etapas, en la Categora de autos Sport de m#s de 1C00 cc, en la Clasificacin 0eneral es primero .onetto con 7 horas 8H 34M, seguido por Taruffi a 48M y Fangio a 7H 03M. uego clasifican Maglioli (Ferrari), .racco ( ancia), Castellotti ( ancia 223), ucas (0ordini C), Manzini (Ferrari 37, MM), .ehra (0ordini 8), Rosier (Talbot), Trevoux (Packard), Echeverra (Ferrari 2,0 MM), Ricci (Ferrari 37, MM), Millar (MDE special) y 0iron (7aguar AB 120). Se inicia la Cuarta Etapa de 420 kilmetros con 1H de diferencia entre m#quina y m#quina. Se dirigen desde México a en con Maglioli superando a Fangio y haciendo uso de sus m#s de 300 EP de su poderosa Ferrari 12 C. Taruffi ha estado via1ando unos 200 kilmetros muy cerca de .onetto en medio de una cerrada neblina que solo permite una visibilidad de 100 metros. Na llegando a Silao, cuando tena al auto ro1o de .onetto a poco m#s de ,0 metros, se sale del camino al tomar una curva a la derecha en brusca maniobra con las ruedas bloqueadas. Con la suspensin de su ancia rota, es ayudado por espectadores para poner nuevamente su m#quina sobre el camino y alcanza a llegar a una estacin de servicio que se encontraba a pocos metros. En ese lugar repara perdiendo unos 20H. .onetto Fsin esa informacin- cree que a%n tiene a Taruffi pegado a él y entra a Silao a alta velocidad, sin ver las se?ales de peligro. El primer vado se comporta como una rampa que catapulta al blido contra el frente de una casa y la cabeza del infortunado piloto impacta contra un balcn. El auto descontrolado termina sus cabriolas entre un paredn y una columna de alumbrado a un costado de la calle principal, con .onetto en su interior muerto de modo instant#neo. Cuando Fangio retrasado traspone al lugar, ve el auto siniestrado rodeado de gente. 8o sabe que pensar. Al llegar a en le informan de la muerte de su compa?ero de equipo. a serie de incidentes de la Cuarta Etapa posibilita - por un lado- el triunfo de 5mberto Maglioli en ese parcial y -por el otro- a Fangio encabezar la Clasificacin 0eneral. uego de treinta minutos de neutralizacin se inicia la Quinta Etapa de en a 2urango es de ,29 kilmetros. En ella Fangio mantiene su ritmo, de1ando que 5mberto Maglioli en su 37, MM se distancie con una m#quina que es m#s r#pida. Sobre él tiene 9H30M de venta1a y con esa estrategia est# poniendo de manifiesto su frialdad e inteligencia, para OvigilarM y OesperarM el desarrollo de la parte restante de la carrera. Veloz, Maglioli via1ando a 280 BmIh pierde una rueda por rotura de un co1inete. Es con suerte, luego de un derrape pudo mantener el auto sobre la ruta. Al verlo al costado del camino, Fangio aumenta su velocidad de manera tal que al reparar, no lo tenga a la vista y ponga todo en 1uego para alcanzarlo. Se produce el intento y Maglioli rompe un palier, lo que le permite un respiro a Fangio que no presenta lucha a Taruffi, que finalmente es ganador de la Etapa a una media de 193,1 BmIh.

Esta edición cambia en parte respecto a la anterior. El recorrido de 1682 kilómetros será con largada en Brescia a Padova–Ferrara-Ancona- Pescara-Popoli-L’Aquila-Rieti-Terni-Narni-Roma- Civitavecchia-Grosseto-Livorno-Pisa-Firenze-Bologna- Piacenza-Cremona-Brescia. Los rivales son numerosos y de gran calidad, como G. Marzotto-Crosara, V. Marzotto-Fontana y Serafíni-Salami con Ferrari 195 S barchetta Fontana de 2340 cc y 170 CV. Af Holger "Slaasshh" Thor The Commandatore, Mr. Enzo Ferrari himself, the man behind the Prancing Stallion, started his career as a race driver, but soon progressed to team owner. His Scuderia Ferrari raced Alfa Romeos before the war, but with the war over and Alfa Romeo´s factories in ruins, Enzo Ferra- ri decided to build his own cars bearing his name. His first Formula One car was called Ferrari F 125 and was ready for the newly introduced World Championship for drivers in 1950. The first season was only a modest success, the Scu- deria being totally outclassed by the Alfa Romeo team and its 158 model, which won all races during the season, except Indianapolis 500, where only American build cars participated. Their next development called Ferrari F 375 was ready for the 1951 season, but Alfa Romeo continued to dominate, winning the first 3 races with their 159 model (again discounting the Indy 500). But then came Silverstone and Argentine born Froilan Gonzalez took a superb win in his Ferrari F 375 ahead of Juan-Manuel Fangio in his Alfa Romeo 159. And the success kept on! Next round of the championship was the German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring. This time Alberto Ascari took a fine win in his F 375, and again Fangio was second in his 159, but the next places were taken by Froilan Gonzalez, Luigi Villoresi and Piero Taruffi, all in F 375 mo- dels, and on sixth place came Rudolf Fischer in a two-litre Ferrari F 212, making it a sensatio- nal 1-3-4-5-6 result for the Scuderia Ferrari.

    “The Great Challenges Ferrari – Maserati” The cars exhibited FERRARI 340 MM s/n 0280 AM, 1953 Collezione Camellini The Ferrari 340 earned its place in racing history thanks to Giannino Marzotto’s victory in the Mille Miglia on April 28, 1953. It was built as an answer to the endless search for victory through engine power rather than the refinement of the chassis, the efficiency of the suspensions, the innovation of the parts. Before the Mille Miglia, this car raced in the Tour of Sicily on April 12, driven by Gigi Villoresi with Pasquale Cassani. These were the only two races for the Ferrari factory team: two victories. The car on show here is the one driven by Giannino Marzotto in the 1953 Mille Miglia. The same car also won the Tour of Sicily. It has belonged to the present owner’s family since 1964. FERRARI 250 TOUR DE FRANCE s/n 0793 GT, 1958 Private Collection It did not look like a racing car able to win on a circuit, hillclimb or open road, until the PF 704 bodywork was presented at the 1956 Geneva Motor Show. At Maranello they decided this was the right image for the 3 litre berlinetta they had created for the GT class races. In September 1956, the Tour de France Automobile saw Alfonso De Portago- Edmund Nelson’s victory with the 250 GT. This victory is probably at the origin of the unofficial name, TDF, Tour de France. The car on show here, sold to Giuliano Giovanardi in 1958, carried the driver to numerous hillclimb victories and the Italian Mountain Championship in 1959.

By Holger "Slaasshh" Thor The 1955 pre-Formula One season was dominated by great expectations of the clasp of the giants, Lancia D50 vs. Mercedes W 196, With powerful 8 cylinder engines they were both mechanically superior to their competitors. One of them being the Ferrari 555 "Supersqualo" designed by Aurelio Lampredi. This car was powered by the same 4 cylinder engine which had shown good performance in previous years. The F 555 first appearance was at the Monaco GP on May 22nd, but the result was only average. Three F 555´s were entered driven by Piero Taruffi, Paul Frere and Harry Schell. Juan-Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss in their Mercedes´es both led the race, but had to retire due to mechanical problems, and Alberto Ascari drove his Lancia D50 into the harbour! To his own surprise Maurice Trintignant ended up winning the race in an old Ferrari F 625. Best performance of an F 555 being one shared by Taruffi and Frere ending in 8th place. At the Belgian GP on Spa, June 5th, the Ferrari team hired the World Champion from 1950, Dr. Guiseppe "Nino" Farina. He could do no wonders against the "8-wheeled" Mercedes either, but he did come in a fine third after Fangio and Moss. Following Farina on 4th was Paul Frere in a second F 555, making it a more or less acceptable day for the Maranello team.
