Press Release 4.7.2017
Press Release 4.7.2017 Page 1 of 2 More goods on the rails Contargo AG further expands its rail transports Basel, 4 July 2017 – On 3 July 2017, Contargo AG‘s first Basel- Kaldenkirchen Shuttle (BKS) completed the journey from Basel to Kaldenkirchen, North Rhine Westphalia (situated in Nettetal in the Viersen district). From now on, Contargo is offering this rail con- nection five times a week in both directions. Thus Contargo Süd is continuing to expand the share of handling to/from rail in its transactions, and supporting the policy of a modal transport shift in Switzerland. The BKS sets out daily both from Basel and from Kaldenkirchen, Mon- day to Friday, reaching its destination the next day. “In the BKS we have a fast, reliable connection for continental cargoes between Swit- zerland and the Ruhr area and the East Netherlands”, says Holger Bochow, Co-Managing Director of Contargo AG. “Our location in the Border Triangle functions as a hub, since the trailers can be sent on from here by rail or truck to other parts of Switzerland – but also to Germany or France, or even to Italy.” As well as the BKS, Contargo Süd offers five other rail connections in Basel: the trimodal Basel Multimodal Express (Basel/Weil – Em- merich), the Basel-Duisburg Shuttle (Basel/Weil – Duisburg), the Rhein Romandie Shuttle (Basel – Chavornay – Geneva), the Alfred Escher Shuttle (Basel – Dietikon – Gossau) and the ROCO Shuttle (Basel/Weil – Rotterdam and Antwerp). Contargo AG realises these rail products jointly with Contargo Rail Service as operator, i.e. they develop, organ- ise and market the lines themselves and take on the capacity utilisation risk. -

1986 News-Caster (Top of Page 55)
THE CASTOR FAMILY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA FAMILY ORIGINS We have started our newsletter each year with this article. It is a good intro- duction. We believe it is worth repeating for the benefit of the new members. Some updating occurs. There are several different origins of the Caster/Castor/Kaster/Kastor families. Some came to this country as Caster, Castor, Kaster or Kastor; and some came as something entirely different. For example, in 1736, Hans Georg Gerster and his wife, Eve Gisin, arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Princess Agusta which had come from Cowes, Isle of Wight, England. Hans was born 1710 in Basel, Switzerland. Hans and Eve married in 1735, and after their arrival in this country, they had a family of eight. Although their surname was Gerster, it was soon pronounced Gaster or Garster in this country, and was corrupted into Caster or Castor. By 1762, Hans had become John George Castor, and more frequently, George Castor. Most of his descendants carry the surname Castor, although some are Caster. Other Gerster families came to America in 1748, 1749, 1768, 1803, 1804 and 1805, and most of their descendants are today either Caster or Castor. And then there was John de Castorer who was born 1748 in New London, Connecticut. John married 1770 Anna Calkins, and they lived near Spencertown, New Your from where John enlisted in 1776 for the Revolutionary War. After the war, they moved to Redfield, New York, and later to Ellisburg, New York. Their surname shortened to Caster, and their nine children were styled either Caster or Castor. -
Introduction 3RX Investment Costs
Introduction Over the past two years a feasibility study has been carried out of the Rhein-Ruhr Rail Connection (3RX), a rail route between the North Sea Ports and the Rhein-Ruhr area in Germany. The study was commissioned by the Flemish Government and co-financed by the European Union. A steering committee, consisting of representatives from all five governments involved (i.e. The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Nordrhein-Westfalen and Flanders), has overseen the study. The study was carried out by the ARTECORAIL, a consortium of consultancy companies from all three countries. 3RX 3RX connects Antwerp (Belgium) with Mönchengladbach (Germany), via Lier and Mol (Belgium), Weert, Roermond, Venlo (all in The Netherlands) and Viersen (Germany). As the section Antwerp – Lier is common with the Montzen route, the study has concentrated on the section between Lier and Mönchengladbach. The 3RX is an alternative for revitalisation of the historical Iron Rhine route and for the previously studied A52 route and makes as much as possible use of existing rail infrastructure. The study compares the 3RX with these two alternatives. The 3RX concept was developed to expand capacity of the east-west rail routes, thereby supporting a modal shift policy towards rail. The 3RX not only relieves existing routes, such as the Montzen route, but also provides an alternative route in case one of the existing east-west rail routes would be temporarily unavailable; consequently, rail freight traffic on the East-West corridor will be more reliable. Investment costs The study has developed various options for each section of the 3RX route, assuming a design capacity of 72 trains per day (both ways), full electrification and state of the art safety systems. -

There Had Been an RAF Communications Squadron in Germany Since 1944
8 Pembroke-Andover Era 1969 - 77 There had been an RAF communications squadron in Germany since 1944. In preparation for the invasion of France a unit had been formed in July 1943 at what is now Blackbushe Airport but was then known as RAF Hartford Bridge. Initially called the 2nd Tactical Air Force Communications Flight, it transferred to RAF Northolt in April 1944, then followed the invading forces, operating in France, Belgium and eventually Germany, establishing itself at RAF Buckeberg in May 1945, where it was to remain for almost ten years. ‘Communications’, in this context, are nothing to do with radios or telephones. A ‘communications squadron’ is the RAF’s term for a light transport unit, with duties such as VIP air taxi and those passenger and freight tasks which do not justify larger transport aircraft. Typical examples might be medical evacuation and small but urgent packages. The role and organisation of the RAF in Germany changed as the political and military situation changed. Immediately after the war the British military force in Germany was, inevitably, an army of occupation. German civilian administration had largely either been destroyed or had broken down. Even elementary necessities of life such as housing and electricity had to be organised by the Allied military. As an example, until 1949, it was the British Army which was running the Volkswagen car factory which produced the Beetle at Wolfsburg. For the RAF, this situation was reflected in the change of name from 2 TAF to the British Air Forces of Occupation (BAFO) in July 1945.
