About

Red Ape Cinnamon® was founded in 2006 by Kestrel Growth Brands, Inc., a company that finds unique ingredients that are grown by small family farmers around the world and introduces them to chefs, bakers, and home gourmets.

The Red Ape Cinnamon® brand was launched by Kestrel Growth Brands to accompany their other organic brands. Within a couple years it became clear that Red Ape Cinnamon® was a hit and it began taking on a life of its own.

In January 2013, Kestrel Growth Brands partnered with Dan Vishny to form a new company focused only on the Red Ape Cinnamon® brand. Dan’s vision is to grow the Red Ape Cinnamon® brand into a multi-product brand and help save the be- loved orangutans.

Red Ape Cinnamon™ is sustainably harvested in Indonesia from Cassia Cinnamon trees that are at least 6 years old. The Volatile Oil (V.O.) content is much higher in older trees resulting in a higher quality cinnamon.

Red Ape Cinnamon is harvested from the inner barker of the cinnamon tree and is Ethylene oxide free. Red Ape Cinnamon is ground slowly and under less pressure than the cinnamon found on supermarket shelves - this avoids the cinnamon burning and results in a sweeter more intense flavour.

A percentage of profits from sales of Red Ape Cinnamon is donated to programs dedicated to the protection and restoration of Orangutan habitats in Indonesia.

About

NuNaturals NuStevia is a superior extract without the bitter taste that has been traditionally associated with Stevia. Through an all-natural process, the bitter-tasting components are removed. In addition, natural flavors further enhance the taste of the extract, providing you with the some of the best-tasting Stevia products available.

What is Stevia?

While the Indians of Paraguay have used Stevia for centuries, the Europeans first learned about it from the Spanish conquistadors of the sixteenth century. Word was sent back to Spain that the South American natives were using an in their drinks to improve the taste. Today Stevia is used by millions of people all around the world.

Stevia consists of 240 species of plants native to South America, Central America, and , with several species found as far north as Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. They were first researched by Spanish botanist and physician Pedro Jaime Esteve (1500–1556), from whose surname originates the Latinized word stevia. The leaves of the stevia plant have 30–45 times the sweetness of sucrose (ordinary table sugar). The leaves can be eaten fresh, or put in teas and foods. The plant has a long history of medicinal use by the Guaraní, having been used extensively by them for more than 1,500 years. The leaves have been traditionally used for hundreds of years in both Brazil and Paraguay to sweeten local teas and medicines, and as a "sweet treat". In the early 1970s, sweeteners such as cyclamate and saccharin were suspected of being carcinogens. Consequently, Japan began cultivating stevia as an alternative. The plant's leaves, as well as the aqueous extract of the leaves and purified steviosides, were developed as sweeteners. The first commercial stevia sweetener in Japan was produced by the firm Morita Kagaku Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1971. The Japanese have been using stevia in food products and soft drinks, and for table use. Japan currently consumes more stevia than any other country, with stevia accounting for 40% of the sweetener market. NuNaturals

Why NuNaturals uses Maltodextrin as an ingredient in NuStevia™ White Stevia™ Powder

What is Maltodextrin? Maltodextrin is 99.96% carbohydrate and .04% sugar.

Where does Maltodextrin come from? The maltodextrin NuNaturals uses as an ingredient in NuStevia™ White Stevia Powder™ is made from corn.

How is Maltodextrin made? Corn is made into slurry (corn mush) It is then liquefied The liquid undergoes an acid/enzyme conversion The liquid goes through filtration and a carbon treatment. The liquid is then evaporated. The condensed liquid is now spray dried and separated. One of the products separated out is maltodextrin.

Why does NuNaturals use Maltodextrin in its NuStevia™ White Stevia™ Powder? Maltodextrin is tasteless and therefore perfect as a flowing agent in our NuStevia™ White Stevia™ Powder. Maltodextrin dissolves clearly in hot or cold liquids. Maltodextrin does not harden in packets and bottles. Maltodextrin will not cause digestive problems.

How much maltodextrin is in one serving of NuStevia™ White Stevia™ Powder? One serving is ½ tsp. powder (1 individual packet) and contains 920 mg of Maltodextrin.

How does the sweetness of one serving of Stevia taste in comparison to the sweetness of white table sugar? Used as a dietary supplement, one serving (1 packet or ½ tsp. of the powder) tastes like 2 tsp. of sugar in terms of sweetness.

How much sugar is .04%? The .04% sugar in maltodextrin is equivalent to 32 milligrams (mg).

How many milligrams (mg) of sugar are in 2 teaspoons white table sugar? There are 8,000 mgs of sugar in 2 tsp. of white table sugar. This is 250 times the amount of sugar in 1 serving of NuStevia White Stevia Powder.

Why does NuNaturals need a flowing agent in the NuStevia? White Stevia? Powder? NuNaturals Stevia Extract is so extremely concentrated that 1/32 tsp. is equal to 1 serving. We add maltodextrin to help the Stevia flow smoothly out of the packet. Maltodextrin also allows the Stevia to be more easily measured.
