Celebrating 50 Years Voting Rights Act Meet the Pepper LOVE TO COOK–COOK TO LOVE BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT NEW! MEET THE PEPPER WITH A HEART! APPLE PECAN PIE • SUMMER BLACK-EYED PEA SALAD • JOHN’S BREAKFAST BOWL Meet the Pepper with a Heart! You know the difference pepper makes. Think what a really good pepper could do. John’s Breakfast Bowl, page 16 Penzeys Pepper A simple shake brings life to salads, sandwiches, pasta, meat, potatoes, soup NEW! and eggs. Bill’s Harvest Tomatoes, page 62 Make a difference— make your pepper, Penzeys Pepper. Back to School 2015 With August 6th marking the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 Chocolate Zucchini Cake 9 we thought it would be good and right to focus on cooks who work to educate about the events that set the Act in motion, and the positive impact actually CHILI PEPPERS & POWDERS 10-12 enforcing the right to vote has had on our country. As once again there are CINNAMON 14-17 those who are using unfounded fears to place obstacles along the path to voting that have a greater impact on minority voters, it’s important to remind Nancy’s Apple Pecan Pie ourselves of how much was achieved 50 years ago and at such a cost. John’s Breakfast Bowl 16 I can understand there is a world of cooking that revolves around Cornmeal Soufflé 16 exceptionality and elitism where the featured foods flow from the anger of celebrity chefs. In that world it might be hard to see the connection between Summer Tomato Salad 22 cooking and the Voting Rights Act. But in our world, people cook to take care of those around them and people give away their cooking because of the way the BBQ Tri-Tip with Homemade Salsa 23 gift of cooking has of setting better futures in motion for everyone. In our world cooking and the Voting Rights Act pretty much come from the very same PEPPERS & PEPPERCORNS 26-29 place. When you treat people with dignity and compassion the world really Company Meal does become a better place. And where empathy and compassion abound, great recipes are always close at hand. Sweet Drop Biscuits with Strawberries 31 With all this in mind, in this catalog we are introducing the new Penzeys FIND A PENZEYS STORE NEAR YOU 32 Pepper. First off it’s great pepper; the best really. If you were a fan of our Penzeys Freshly Ground Pepper, you will like the flavor of Penzeys Pepper even Chopped Greek Salad 35 more. If there was a weakness to the Freshly Ground, its particle size was Banana Walnut Buttermilk Muffins 36 slightly too large to work well with foods that were neither hot nor moist. So for Penzeys Pepper we’ve added about 20% finer ground pepper, which may seem Fried Green Tomatoes 37 like a small thing, but when it comes to foods like sandwiches, salads or simply a hard-boiled egg, the flavor comes through so much better. Summer Black-Eyed Pea Salad 39 The other big difference with Penzeys Pepper is our pledge. For every jar we sell Sweet Potato Casserole 41 or give away to our customers through promotions, we will be donating an additional jar to organizations that feed people in need. So by getting a jar of Salmon Croquettes 48 Penzeys Pepper not only are you providing the very best in pepper for yourself and the people you cook for, you are also providing the same for someone in Favorite Salad 49 need. VANILLA 50-53 For too many in need, meals often are what others have rejected or made with Sour Cream Pound Cake ingredients beyond their best-by dates. From our customers I’ve learned the optimism that comes with cooking. I just believe that the idea of there still Pickled Black-Eyed Peas 52 being people out there who care enough to give you the option to season your Tilapia Salad 53 food with the very best pepper the world has to offer is going to make a difference for someone somewhere. Please help make Penzeys Pepper a GIFT BOXES & CRATES 54 success. Cheesy Spinach with Brown Rice 60 And if you have the chance to get our new Penzeys Pepper, you really should use it to season John’s Breakfast Bowl on page 16. So much of what we are Polynesian Ribs 60 trying to do is keep the spirit of cooking alive. Keeping the history of the Civil Rights Movement alive is important too.
