A LONGITUDINAL STUDIO OF THEMATIC TRANSFER Viviana Muñiz Zúñiga1: University of Oriente Cuba. vivita@fch.uo.edu.cu Rafael Ángel Fonseca Valido: University of Oriente Cuba fonseca@fch.uo.edu.cu ABSTRACT This piece of research presents a four-time longitudinal analysis of the correlation among the media agenda of the local radio station in Santiago de Cuba, CMKC Radio Revolution, and the political agenda. Its general objective is to determine the extant correlation among the media agenda of the radio station CMKC and the political agenda in Santiago de Cuba in the years 2014 and 2015. The contribution of this piece of research is that is the first of its type in the country, as it explains the relationship between these two agendas in a province during different phases. The studio has been conceived from a quantitative methodology, and methods like Analysis - Synthesis and the Inductive-deductive are used as well as techniques such as Analysis of Content, correlation coefficient by Spearman ranges and participant Observation. With the analysis that was carried out it is demonstrated that there is a moderate, sometimes high relationship between the political agenda and the media agenda under study, and that this characteristic remains stable all through the time the analysis took place. SEW WHAT? INC. PROVIDES CUSTOM STAGE DRAPERY FOR GREEN DAY 2016-17 REVOLUTION RADIO TOUR SEW WHAT? INC. PRESIDENT, MEGAN DUCKETT, REPORTS THEY ARE PRODUCING STAGE DRAPES FOR Rancho Dominguez, CA GREEN DAY’S 2016-17 REVOLUTION RADIO TOUR. February 7, 2017 Rancho Dominguez, CA -- Sew What? Inc, a California stage drapery manufacturer, is working again with the punk rock band, Green Day in producing custom stage drapes for their 2016-17 Revolution Radio Tour. Formed in 1986, the American band has won 5 Grammy Awards, and sold over 85 million records worldwide. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Sew What? president, Megan Duckett reports, "Needless to say, we are very excited to have been invited to work with a fantastic band like Green Day again. It's also a treat to work on a project that will have mid-show drapery changes, which lends an ongoing visual impact to their audiences." The current tour features several different drapery elements supplied by Sew What?, including a kabuki drape, a dual set of banners that together comprise a backdrop, and a massive black masking drape. Each of the textiles supplies a different look and stimulating visual effects for the show. The kabuki drape backdrop features a giant digitally printed "BOOM BOX design," and was crafted for the main stage. The 60 feet wide piece was digitally printed onto FR Crystal Poplin, given the fabric’s light weight, durability and color saturation. The material, chosen among many stage curtain fabrics available, packs into a small storage vessel - an important factor for a touring show.

  • Music and Revolution: Cultural Change in Socialist Cuba
1.Moore, Music and Revolution 10/18/05 3—10 PM Page 26 chapter 1 Revelry and Revolution The Paradox of the 1950s It is possible that other epochs of our history may have produced works of greater quality. But in terms of sheer volume there is no period associated with more musical performance or production than the decade of the 1950s....The vast majority of the music listened to in Cuba for years afterward and almost all of what continues to be heard in Cuban exile communities comes from that same music. And a majority of the new music made abroad, among Cubans and Latinos more generally, has been influenced by those same recordings. cristóbal díaz ayala, Música cubana del areyto a la nueva trova Memories of Cuba in the 1940s and 1950s vary widely; they represent a point of tension between those sympathetic to the socialist revolution and others ambivalent or opposed to it. From the vantage of the present, pre- revolutionary memories can be used to justify the actions of revolutionar- ies or to criticize them and thus retain discursive significance. Authors often discuss the period in essentialized terms. Supporters of socialist Cuba have tended to characterize the “pseudo-republic” as one of the darkest periods of the country’s history. To them, midcentury life was fundamentally marred by the effects of government corruption and political violence as well as by widespread social ills—racism, class division, organized crime, gam- bling, prostitution, unemployment—and deficiencies in public education and other social services.1 They stress Cuba’s subservience to North American interests and the fact that it had never achieved the autonomy aspired to in 1898 and 1933.
