THESIS ADVISOR : PROF.WILLIAM CHAPMAN Ph.D. 297 pp. The aim of this study is to establish a suitable aesthetic category model of World Heritage, especially for Sukhothai Historical Park and other heritage sites, that will enable the visitors of the heritage sites to meet the objectives of creating enjoyment, appreciating a heritage property, bringing prosperity and creating local pride in the community. The author used the qualitative research method in this study to gain in depth information of the subject being examined. Content analysis was used to ascertain historical and art information of the khmer art and its architectural influence in Thailand. The author visited, observed and discussed with the director of Sukhothai National Museum at the heritage site. The study further examined the feedback of the visitors at heritage site for developing the services of heritage site. To enable the Fine Arts Department to be more value -oriented, the author suggested the Fine Arts department to push the aesthetic study of cultural heritage sites into the national philosophy of education. The author examined the Buddhist Art which influenced from Buddhism, The Khmer art and architecture which have had influenced to the Sukhothai Historical Park and associated sites. The author found that eventhough the architecture of Sukhothai Historical Park, World Heritage, was influenced by the Khmer architecture but the architects of Sukhothai can created the masterpice of the stupas, Sukhothai Stupa, in the individual style that absolutely difference from the Khmer architecture. The conclusion of the study recommended that the aesthetics of World Heritage is based on the pleasure of ruins. This concept can be used at all the cultural heritage sites in Thailand to benefit all stakeholders.     Chapter Four The Royal Roads of King Jayavarman VII and its Architectural Remains 4.1 King Jayavarman VII’s Royal Roads 4.1.1 General Information Jayavarman VII’s Royal Roads was believed (by many scholars) to be built in the era of Jayavarman VII who ruled Khmer empire between AD 1812 – 1218. The road network not only cover the area of the modern-day Cambodia but also the large areas of the present Laos, Thailand and Vietnam that were under the control of the empire as well. As demonstrated by Ooi Keat Gin in Southeast Asia: A Historical Encyclopeida from Angkor Wat to East Timor Volume Two; highways were built—straight, stone-paved roads running across hundreds of kilometers, raised above the flood level, with stone bridges across rivers and lined with rest houses every 15 kilometers. Parts of some roads are still visible, even serving as the bed for modern roads. From the capital city, Angkor, there were at least two roads to the east and two to the west. One of the latter ran across the Dangrek Mountains to Phimai and another went due west toward Sisophon, which means toward the only lowland pass from Cambodia into eastern Thailand in the direction of Lopburi or Ayutthaya. Toward the east, one road has been traced almost to the Mekong, and according to an inscription in which these roads are described, it may continue as far as the capital of Champa1 1 Ooi. (2004).     Thai Kingship during the Ayutthaya Period : A Note on Its Divine Aspects Concerning Indra* Woraporn Poopongpan Abstract This article is an initial attempt to highlight the divine aspects of Thai kingship during the Ayutthaya period, the interesting characteristic of which was an association of the king’s divinity with the Buddhist and Brahman god, Indra. Thai concept of the king’s divinity was identified closely with many Brahman gods such as Narayana, Rama or Siva (Isuan) but the divine aspects concerning Indra had a special place in Thai intellectual thinking as attested by ceremonies associated with the kingship recorded in Palatine Law and other sources. Thai kingship associated with Indra was reflected in the following elements: 1. The Royal ceremonies 2. The names of Indra’s residences 3. The number of the king’s consorts The article concludes that the emphasis on the king’s divine being as Indra derived not only from the influence of Brahmanism on the Thai society but more importantly from the high status of Indra in Buddhist belief. This can be easily understood since Buddhism is the main religion of Thai society. This year was regarded as a great year and ready to gain from an investment as the Company had invested in various types of renewable energy business for the last few years. To this, the Company had 38 projects with total selling capacity of 300.42 Megawatts (MW) operated both in Thailand and Japan.
