6 THE PRESIDENTS’ MESSAGE / NEGES Y LLYWYDD

We were both delighted and humbled when we were approached by Devynock Agricultural Society to be this year’s Show Presidents. We joined the in 2003 when we took over The White House Country Inn and we were immediately welcomed by the local community – the same warm welcome we have always sought to extend back both to locals and the countless visitors who have passed through our establishment in the subsequent 16 years. Through regular show attendance we have seen from the outside—as the public so often do—how the show consistently grows, and marvelled as exhibitors efforts constantly surpass the prior year’s impressive standards. However as Devynock Agricultural Society have held their committee meetings with us at The White House, we have also been privileged to glimpse at some of the inner workings and behind-the-scenes efforts involved in planning, preparation and execution of such a first class event. Let me tell you, it is no small feat and one for which we all owe a debt of grati- tude to the exhibitors, trade stands, sponsors and advertisers and most importantly the vol- unteers (or ‘unknown warriors’ as I prefer to call them) who will have worked in a tireless manner culminating in everything you see before you on this day. And when you have seen the best of all that is to be seen here today, and perhaps also this year’s concert (to be held in Maescar Hall on the 14th September), I hope you’ll join us by raising a glass to those same unknown warriors, who will already have begun next year’s campaign. Cheers Godfrey and Hilary Rees

Poem for Handwriting - Class 79: -

On the Farm Up in the morning, early to bed, Feeding cattle in the shed. Carrying heavy bales of hay, Working hard throughout the day. Suckling calves, cleaning stalls, Picking potatoes, mending walls. Feeding lambs either black or white, Sometimes working day and night. Every day he inspects the grounds, These are a few of my father’s rounds.
