In most cases, 'permanent' is synonymous with 'purpose-built'. However, some circuits were not purpose-built but actually started out as tempo- rary courses. Florida's Sebring International Raceway, for example, was originally a temporary airfield course, laid out over the runways of Hendricks Field. Likewise, Portland International Raceway in Oregon evolved from a street course. Both circuits are nowadays permanent facilities. The starting point for this list was the 2003 edition of Allan Brown's book "A History of America's Speedways: Past & Present". This is an indispensable reference work for which Allan cannot be praised enough. However, in the book the road courses are a bit buried between the vast number of ovals. Listing them separately gives a better overview. Also, I found the information in the book is not always accurate. It is an excellent basis for further research but the data should be treated with great care. I have done my best to present the most correct and accurate info in this file, although there may well be errors here and there. In general, there are three main types of American road courses. The most interesting are the 'pure' road courses which were built specifically for road racing.

    HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TWENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATURE, 2015 STATE OF HAWAII A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND TOURISM. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII: 1 SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the island of Oahu 2 currently lacks an operating motorsports center. Hawaii Raceway 3 Park opened for operation in Campbell Industrial Park in 1962, 4 but closed in 2006. Kalaeloa Raceway Park opened in 2010, but 5 closed in 2014. The legislature further finds that the 6 development of a planned motorsports center will provide a boost 7 of jobs in planning and construction, and provide permanent jobs. 8 The legislature further finds that a motorsports industry will 9 have a positive annual economic benefit while also resulting in 10 increased tourism and revenue for the State. 11 The purpose of this Act is to require the department of 12 business, economic development, and tourism to study and analyze 13 the feasibility of establishing a motorsports industry and 14 development of a motorsports center in Hawaii. 15 SECTION 2. The department of business, economic 16 development, and tourism shall study and analyze the feasibility 2015-1079 HB SMA.doc Page2 F-LB. NO. iafl 1 of establishing a motorsports industry and developing a 2 motorsports center in Hawaii, including but not limited to, 3 location, costs of land acquisition, costs of construction and 4 development, projected revenues, and means of financing. 5 SECTION 3.     Hewitt Entertains Crowd at Villages Club The Villages Daily Sun Friday, January 9, 2015 By Steve Trivett Jack Hewitt kept the crowd on the edge of their seats for much of his stellar auto-racing career. He had them rolling in the aisles during a meeting of The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club on Wednesday evening at Colony Cottage Recreation Center. “Before I say anything, I need to warn you that I’m not rated G and I’m not politically correct,” said Hewitt, one of the most famous names in the history of United States Auto Club racing. “But I’ve stories up the ying-yang.” Yes, he does – much to the delight of the crowd of more than 100 that filled the room. And he told most of them. To say that Hewitt is a throwback is to say that belonging to the auto racing fraternity is not for the faint of heart. He’s had his neck broken twice. On at least one occasion, he’s caught on fire – that’s right, on fire. “We were running at the Fairgrounds at Indianapolis when something blew and there were flames everywhere,” he recalled. “The fire-fighting guys came over and turned all of their extinguishers on the car. “I had gotten out and I’m yelling, ‘But what about me!’ The only part of my neck that wasn’t burned was where the strap of my helmet went under my chin, and my feet were on fire. But I’m still here to tell about it.” Tell you about it he will – and he’s one of those who can talk the talk because he walked the walk.

    Kansas General Tire Superspeedway Challenge The Dawn 150 is the fifth round of the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge, comprised of 7 races held on paved ovals greater than 1.5 miles in length. - A superspeedway championship for the car owners within the overall championship of the ARCA Menards Series 20-race schedule. - Only race points are counted towards a team’s point total, with the bonus points for leading laps or winning the pole disregarded. - Champion crowned at Kansas Speedway on Friday, October 16, 2020 and recognized at annual championship awards banquet. Kentucky Speedway was not originally on the 2020 ARCA Menards Series season schedule, but the change of scenery did not bother Ty Gibbs one bit as he drove the Coy Gibbs-owned No. 18 Toyota to the win in the General Tire 150. The venue change to Kentucky from Charlotte Motor Speedway played out directly in favor of the talented 17-year old driver, who was able to make his 1.5-mile speedway debut thanks to relaxed age restrictions in place at Kentucky. This was the second superspeedway win of the season for the No. 18 team, who also won at Pocono Raceway in June with Gibbs behind the wheel. The big win for Ty Gibbs pushed his father’s No. 18 team to the top of the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge point standings with 163 points, but the Joe Gibbs Racing team shouldn’t get too comfortable in that position. The No. 18 team holds a lead of one point over Cathy Venturini’s No. 25 team with full-time driver Michael Self.
