Kansas General Tire Superspeedway Challenge The Dawn 150 is the fifth round of the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge, comprised of 7 races held on paved ovals greater than 1.5 miles in length. - A superspeedway championship for the car owners within the overall championship of the ARCA Menards Series 20-race schedule. - Only race points are counted towards a team’s point total, with the bonus points for leading laps or winning the pole disregarded. - Champion crowned at Kansas Speedway on Friday, October 16, 2020 and recognized at annual championship awards banquet. Kentucky Speedway was not originally on the 2020 ARCA Menards Series season schedule, but the change of scenery did not bother Ty Gibbs one bit as he drove the Coy Gibbs-owned No. 18 Toyota to the win in the General Tire 150. The venue change to Kentucky from Charlotte Motor Speedway played out directly in favor of the talented 17-year old driver, who was able to make his 1.5-mile speedway debut thanks to relaxed age restrictions in place at Kentucky. This was the second superspeedway win of the season for the No. 18 team, who also won at Pocono Raceway in June with Gibbs behind the wheel. The big win for Ty Gibbs pushed his father’s No. 18 team to the top of the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge point standings with 163 points, but the Joe Gibbs Racing team shouldn’t get too comfortable in that position. The No. 18 team holds a lead of one point over Cathy Venturini’s No. 25 team with full-time driver Michael Self. Just one more point separates the No. 25 from their team car, Bill Venturini’s No. 15, driven by rookie Drew Dollar. As if the race at the top wasn’t close enough already, fifth-year competitor Bret Holmes scored his best career finish of second at Kentucky and has lifted his Stacy Holmes-backed No. 23 team to fourth in the standings with 158 points, only five markers out of first place. Kansas Speedway will be the site of the next General Tire Superspeedway Challenge race, the first of two scheduled AMS races at the track this year. Kansas has served exclusively as the season finale since 2012, but this will be the first time that the track has a second race on the schedule. Overall AMS point leader Michael Self won the 2017 race at Kansas – his first career ARCA Menards Series win – and is the only former Kansas winner on the entry list. Also among the favorites will be Tanner Gray and the No. 17 David Gilliland-owned Ford team, despite being mired in 12th in the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge standings. Gray won his first career General Tire Pole award at Kansas last year before finishing sixth. Ty Gibbs will not be eligible to compete at Kansas until the fall race due to age restrictions, so the No. 18 team will rely on Riley Herbst to keep the team in contention. Herbst has a best career finish of fourth in three prior Kansas starts, as does Bret Holmes and the No. 23 team. Without Gibbs in the field, Holmes will be looking to finish one position higher than he did at Kentucky and finally score his long-awaited first ARCA Menards Series victory. The General Tire Superspeedway Challenge – a championship within a championship The General Tire Superspeedway Challenge is a special series within the greater ARCA Menards Series overall championship. The challenge is comprised of races on the ARCA schedule at paved ovals greater than 1.5 miles in length. The season-long battle began at Daytona in February and will conclude at Kansas in October. Race points only count towards a team’s yearlong tally, with bonus points not counted towards this total. The General Tire Superspeedway Challenge is contested among car owners, rather than drivers, so that a team using multiple drivers has the same chances of winning as a team with a single full-time driver. Last year saw Chad Bryant’s No. 22 Chad Bryant Racing Ford take the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge crown via this method, with three different drivers making starts in the No. 22 car. The effort was anchored by Ty Majeski, now competing in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series for Niece Motorsports, as he won three races in just six starts to help seal the title for Bryant. 2020 General Tire Superspeedway Challenge Current Points DAY TAL POC KEN KAN-I MIC KAN-II TOTAL CAR Owner NAME 18 Coy Gibbs 37 40 43 43 163 25 Cathy Venturini 43 39 39 41 162 15 Bill Venturini 41 43 38 39 161 23 Stacy Holmes 35 41 40 42 158 4 David Gilliland 42 37 37 30 146 20 Billy Venturini 22 42 42 38 144 12 Michelle Hillenburg 38 34 33 31 136 46 Bo LeMastus 39 38 24 29 130 69 Bill Kimmel 34 33 34 27 128 10 Andy Hillenburg 23 32 35 36 126 22 Chad Bryant 24 29 36 37 126 17 David Gilliland 28 31 29 35 123 11 Andy Hillenburg 25 26 28 33 112 97 Codie Rohrbaugh 12 36 30 34 112 06 Wayne Peterson 26 27 26 28 107 8 John Corr 40 35 27 102 48 Brad Smith 13 24 31 32 100 21 Maury Gallagher 41 40 81 01 Michelle Hillenburg 15 25 25 65 7 Eric Caudell 27 30 57 0 Wayne Peterson 30 23 53 32 Kevin Cywinski 21 28 49 3 Wayne Hixson 36 36 9 Thomas Praytor 33 33 28 Mike Bursley 32 32 82 John Corr 32 32 87 Chuck Buchanan Jr. 31 31 09 Chris Our 29 29 61 J.J.
