DALE BALLANTYNE FOOTBALL OPERATIONS MANAGER

ooking back over the season, we can be satisfied with our improvement on field, however, we have so much more to look forward to as a football club as Lplayers, coaches and support staff, if we are prepared to take another step forward and seek success through hard work and going the extra yard in 2019. Throughout the early stages of pre-season and even during January we were faced with the task of off-field staff recruitment as senior coaches, our doctor, physio, head trainer and head of S & C all departed for opportunities which couldn’t be passed up. Luckily we were able to fill these gaps with quality professionals, quality people and in most cases people who were already involved in the club, so to all those who have stepped into the breach I thank you, as do the senior playing group, and for those of you new to the Perth Football Club, I trust you have enjoyed your first year. Thanking everyone involved in the Football Department is fraught with danger, because you always miss someone – I apologize in advance for those I miss!

The medical team lead by Charlotte and Hayley, along with Joe and Brett – fantastic job, always completed with minimal fuss and total professionalism.

Ben, Sarah, Michael and Matt, along with Pat in the S & C and rehab area, thank you.

To all the coaching staff, including the volunteers who put in hours of work during the season, I have enjoyed working with you, as I know the players have enjoyed having you involved. It is never easy to maintain your energy and enthusiasm over the course of a long season, however, you have all managed to do that and it has been a great pleasure to have been able to achieve what we have with you and I look forward to having you all involved again moving forward. I would also like to acknowledge the Monday morning crew, who are at the club every week, tidying up to ensure that the club looks good. Your work is much appreciated. Arthur – you are a legend.

Team managers, chairman of selectors, board men, runners and all other game day helpers, you make my life so much easier and I trust you had an enjoyable season.

I believe that the Perth FC is very lucky to have Earl as our senior coach and for his sake, I am glad we got a few more wins on the board this year at League level. It certainly gave you some rewards for your hard work and dedication to improving our football club. You worked extremely hard during the pre-season as we sourced new coaches and contributed immensely to the planning and overall outcomes. Also thank you to his trusty side-kick in Andrew Panetta, who is an awesome Reserves coach and someone who continually finds the ability from within himself to support anyone who requires it.

CJ and the leadership group – you have done a wonderful job this year in leading the playing group. We will continue to work on leadership, values and standards in the coming years and it will be a lot easier now that we have some solid platforms in place thanks to your work. Clubs do not necessarily function in harmony at all times, however I feel that the issues we deal with at Perth are now relatively small ones and we deal with these in a controlled and mature way thanks to the work of the leadership group.

Thank you to the Board for your support. The club has some great people in place with knowledge, experience and the enthusiasm to help support the football department and players. We will continue to improve, while this support exists. All the front office staff, Ryan, Lance, Archie and especially Peter Brear, I firmly believe we punch well above our weight in what we achieve and how we work as a team.

Marty – thanks for the opportunity to continue to be a part of the Perth Football Club. I appreciate your support and friendship and I am sure the club will continue to thrive under your leadership.

4 BOLD •CONNECTED • COMMITTED LEAGUE COACH’S REPORT

EARL SPALDING LEAGUE COACH

am confident the true value of our much improved 2018 season will become apparent in the next year or two, because despite the frustrating last three Iweeks, where we blew the chance to play finals for the first time in over twenty years, our progress as a developing young group is undeniable. We managed to beat five teams and lost to a sixth after the siren, which left just the undefeated Subiaco & fellow grand finalists, West Perth (a team that we tend to struggle against for some reason) as the only sides we couldn’t master. Even then we had our moments in games against both these sides, but couldn’t take our chances against West Perth or sustain our effort for long enough against Subiaco. This showed me we could compete with anyone when we brought our A game, which revolved around pressure in the contest and on the ball carrier when they won the ball. Also in our ability to lock the ball in our forward line and get repeat entries, thus giving us more opportunities to score. Our average inside 50’s were up by 5 on last year and saw us ranked 3rd for the season. This saw the greatest drop off in all our stats over the last 3 weeks, due mostly to our lack of forward pressure.

There were quite a few reasons for our improved performances. Firstly some low key, but targeted recruiting that saw Corey Yeo, Mitch Lague & Ben Along with our 2019 debutants (especially young Zac Hill, who managed to Giobbi join the club as well as Michael Bennell, who “knocked on the door” play 15 games in his debut season as a key defender) and very promising asking for an another opportunity at WAFL level after a promising colts career graduating colts, it’s not hard to see why I’m so bullish about our short and at Swans. Whilst Mitch & to a lesser extent Ben had injury interrupted seasons, more importantly long term future. Fourthly and most importantly in terms of they certainly showed they can be very good players at this level and Corey taking the next big step forward, was the role our leadership group played this & Michael had outstanding first seasons at the club, with both having scope year. We took a different approach in forming this group, allowing the whole for improvement. Also Matt Taylor returned to the club after a year at North playing group to vote for their leaders after a short, but extremely gruelling Melbourne on their rookie list and he has certainly benefitted from his time and mentally challenging overnight camp at the back of Byford. The five at AFL level. Even though it ultimately proved to be a disappointingly short leaders empowered by their peers were Clint Jones, Brent Edmonds, Christian stay, he is still young and talented enough to get back if he continues to Eyres, Lachie Dennis & Cody Leggett. They all contributed well in their role work hard. Secondly, welcoming Cody Leggett, Lachie Dennis, Jared Bell & as a conduit between the coaches and players, but have also acknowledged Kristian Cary back from long term injury. They all showed what we missed that we have a long way to go to catch up to Subiaco in how we go about out on last year with the impact they had and in Jared’s case, he will be much challenging our team mates and holding each other accountable. We will better for the 5 games he managed at the back end of the season after 2 full continue to tweak this group and encourage them to have a bigger say in how years out. Overall we had a much better run with injury this year, with key we go about the next exciting phase of our development. play makers Brant Colledge & Michael Sinclair showing the benefit of playing relatively pain free for the first time for a while. The main exception being Sam Another big challenge we faced in the off season was filling the shoes of Garstone, who hurt his ankle in round 1. Unfortunately he didn’t recover well departing assistants Michael Pratt & Garry Moss, who both landed Colts enough to make it back into the senior line up. We look forward to seeing him coaching jobs at Perth & East Perth respectively. It was a big assignment, contribute to our continued improvement in 2019. given how high a regard I hold these 2 men in and it took quite a while to fill the positions, but in the end we were very fortunate to secure the services Thirdly the continued development of our young second and third year of Pat Litherland & Darren Kowal. Pat took over the defence and Darren the players in Corey Byrne, Cody Ninyette, Anton Scotney, Blake Johnson, Kasey forwards, which allowed Chance to move into the mids. It was quite a diverse Nicholas, Mitch Henderson, John Levien & Marshall Jones. They all showed group which worked fantastically well together and despite having differing at different stages of the season that they can already have an impact on a opinions from time to time, we were all on the same page once a decision game, so it should fill us all with hope and optimism how good they can be had been made. We were also lucky to gain the services of Rhys Thurston when they get another year or two’s experience under their belt. during the season. Rhys would sit in the box on match day and observe all the coach’s behaviours and interactions with each other and the players. He does this professionally with teachers and we certainly reaped the benefits of his insights. Whilst this could be confronting at times, all the coaches found it extremely beneficial to our development as communicators and educators. Our Development coaches were also a part of this process and we continue to be so lucky to have such an experienced group enthusiastically led by Andrew Panetta. His able assistants in Daine Burnett, Kim Vanderweide and Bruce Fraser were more than comfortable working with our entire list and I had every confidence that a consistent message was being relayed to both playing groups. Add in Neil Allen (Chairman of Selectors), Trevor Williams (Skills Coach & Mentor) & Craig Fewster (Bench Coach) and you’d be hard pressed to find a more experienced or harmonious coaching group in the WAFL.

BOLD •CONNECTED • COMMITTED 5 LEAGUE COACH’S REPORT

Losing our Head S & C coach to WAIS and Physio to the Western Force, wasn’t an ideal way to start the new year and left little time to find experienced replacements, so we were so fortunate to have Ben Teune step up from his assistant S&C role and Brett Fletcher step up from his role as Colts Physio and seamlessly fill these positions. Along with Ben’s assistants, Sara, Matt, Pat & Michael, our club doctor Joe Henry & our wonderful head trainers, Charlotte & Hayley they formed a fantastic working relationship that enabled our fitness levels to reach new heights (we won 10 out of 18 last quarters and had a positive for and against in this stanza for the first time in ages) and our games missed through injury to improve markedly.

I’d also like to acknowledge and thank all of our other match day support staff. From our ever growing dynamic stats team of Boo, Spud and DB, to our Team Manager Dacky, board man Lidds and runners Jenks & Scotty (Jenks also doubles up as boxing coach at the club and at a mate’s gym on Sundays). One thing we are not short of at our club is passionate people willing to give their time to enable us to continue to improve. I hope we are able to reward their faith & loyalty in the not too distant future.

It is also important to recognise the impact Dale Ballantyne has had in his role as Football Manager. He has been able to implement real change that has certainly contributed to our change in fortunes lately and he continues to demand we all stay focussed and ensure our path continues in an upward direction.

Finally, I’d like to thank Marty, Daryle and the rest of the board, for their continued support. We have certainly had some challenging times over the last 4 years and I’m sure there are still a few bumps in the road ahead, but we’ve been able to stay the course in terms of developing our young group of predominantly local talent and this is paramount in achieving the ultimate success we all crave.

6 BOLD •CONNECTED • COMMITTED DEVELOPMENT COACH’S REPORT

ANDREW PANETTA DEVELOPMENT COACH

3 players played Reserves football this year over the season. It is always very challenging at Reserves level to balance the desire to win and the need to educate. I believe we have a very good balance in achieving the goals we are aiming for. Winning is a lot of fun and we probably fell short of where 6we deserved to finish this year, but as a group I believe we learnt a great deal about ourselves and our role in a football club. 6 of these players were graduating Colts from the season before. We were also able to play 10 current colts in the later part of the season as part of the club’s transition program and Stack also played League football this year.

It was a good season because of the following reasons. 1. We were able to get senior games into a large number of young players. 2. The players themselves did it tough at times and learnt some valuable lessons in resilience and teamsmanship. 3. While we didn’t finish as high as we should have, we did show at our best we can mix it with the best teams in the comp. A healthy place to be and a challenge to find consistency.

All these things can only fast track and prepare the boys better for careers at Perth. As a coaching group in the Reserves we are very satisfied that we have given the boys a good grounding for moving forward into the next seasons.

Thank you to our Football Manager (Dale Ballantyne) and our Team Manager (Peter Boyd.) Their help in keeping everything running smoothly took great pressure off us and we appreciate this.

The Reserves assistants; Kim Vanderweide, Bruce Fraser and Daine Burnett. These guys put in a lot more time than is expected of them and their passion for the club and the boys is inspiring in itself. The hours these guys put in compiling feedback for the boys is second to none.

Earl. Thanks mate, for the opportunities and willingness to share responsibility for the playing group and its preparation.

Chance, Pat and Darren. There’s so much to learn and having you 3 here to tap into is a rare opportunity for us and your preparedness to share that knowledge is greatly appreciated.

To Ben, Charlotte, Haley and the training staff. Thank you for the assistance you give us every night at training and on game days. The fact that you are willing to adapt to the coaches needs makes life very easy.

And finally, thanks to the Board and staff at the Perth Football Club. Having the chance to coach at the club is a great experience and I am very grateful for this.

MICHAEL PRATT COLTS COACH

would like to start by thanking the Perth Footy Club and the WAFC for Keep in mind when reviewing all of these achievements – and the list is the opportunity to coach the Colts team during the 2018 season. The significant – that Colts Footy is not JUST about winning and losing…and the Iseason was my 3rd at the club – after spending 2 years as an assistant playing field is not necessarily level between teams. Of course, when the with the seniors. Since joining the club back at the start of the 2016 pre- players cross the line it is 18-vs-18, but whilst some clubs miss a large number season, I have been continually overwhelmed by the welcoming nature and of players due to PSA football commitments – or representative commitments – professional approach of everyone at the PFC. others are barely impacted. And whilst teams such as ours actively encourage our developing colts to ‘push up’ and get a taste of senior footy, other teams Our season – the first conducted under the new WAFC Talent Model – really hold players back. As an example of this, for our Round 21 fixture versus was a season in two halves. After a close first up loss at home to Swan Subiaco, the opposition ran out 13 players born in 1999 (effectively 19 year Districts, the team went on a bit of a roll – winning 6 of our next 7 games olds) whereas our side featured just 3. Which approach is correct? This is including a win over eventual premiers Subiaco and big victories over finalists hard to say – in the short term, Subiaco won the game of colts footy (and East Fremantle and Peel Thunder. The last 12 weeks of the season though ultimately the colts premiership with that same playing group) but what we are were extremely disappointing. We won only one game from the start of June trying to do is provide our players with the best possible grounding to push until the conclusion of the season on Sunday August 26th – which is 13 weeks ahead into senior ranks. (and 39 training sessions!) without success…far too long for any group of players. The question I have repeatedly (and quite fairly) been asked since I think it is inarguable that we are providing great benefits to our young the end of the season is ‘What went wrong?’. players by enabling them to train (and potentially play) with the senior group during the year they turn 18. The process we have put in place to push We could find a lot of excuses for what happened this year – but ultimately the our young players up through the senior group for a ‘block’ of 3-4 games players were unable to deliver success on game-day because I was unable to during the second half of the season is one I am very pleased with – and provide them with the method and motivation for them to do so. Our group most thankful for the support of the senior coaching group (in particular Earl of players this season was exceedingly talented (more on this later) and to be Spalding and Andrew Panetta) for making the boys so welcome. How could unable to ‘get it together’ in the final 3 months of the season was certainly my an 18 year old player not benefit from training with Clint Jones? From being most disappointing period in 15 years of coaching. The results were certainly coached by Earl Spalding? Not only do they have the opportunity to actively not a reflection of the outstanding efforts of my coaching staff – Glenn Davies, LEARN from their senior team-mates and coaches – they also move into the Dean Mann and Peter Donaldson together with S&C Coaches Luke Everett, next pre-season with a CLEAR and very personal understanding of what will Aaron Dean and Tapiwa Shekede – nor the off-field support team led by be required to make a success of senior footy in the following season. Too Physio Alex Murdock, and trainers Hayley Patterson and Charlotte Elliot often players exit Colts footy and fall by the way-side during their first senior (together with their awesome teams!). Everyone in the Colts structure worked pre-season simply because the training load coupled with the competitiveness long and hard to turn things around during the back half of the year but for of the senior players is too much for them. The success our club has had over whatever reason as a group we were unable to find the right button to press. the past two seasons in turning graduating colts into senior players has been absolutely outstanding and really does speak to the benefits of the approach Back to our players – who I am quite certain everyone wants to hear about – we are taking. and the incredible talent the club has coming through the ranks at the moment. BOLD •CONNECTED • COMMITTED 11 ROBERT WILEY FOUNDATION REPORT

PETER BREAR TALENT MANAGER

ig changes occurred behind the scenes in the 2018 Season as the WAFC took control of all State League Underage Competitions and Carnivals. Whilst WAFC took over day to day operations, the Perth Football Club kept a close, efficient and integral partnership with the Talent Program and has diligently worked to ensure Bthe players, coaches and support staff are being warmly engaged across the five Squads representing the Perth Demons. New Colts Coach, Michael Pratt, got the Colts off to a flyer and were sitting top of the table after Round 6, but the loss of State 18s and PSA-based players saw only one more win for the season. My gratitude to Michael, who in his first year established the Playing Style Document, Player Skills Assessment Tracking and the Modulated Training Plan Format to enable the PTP’s future direction and planning to continue seamlessly regardless of coaching personnel. We are so fortunate to have secured a coach of his calibre and experience to forge our next intake of League Players. Thanks also to Glenn Davies, Dean Mann and Peter Donaldson who threw themselves into the Assistant Coach Roles, and S&C Coach Luke Everett and his Assistants, Tapiwa Shekede and Aaron Dean. Thanks also to Kurt Bufton, Chris Maskiell and David Van Raalt for their support. We were lucky to have Charlotte Elliott and Hayley Paterson leading a very professional Medical Trainers Team along with Brett Fletcher and Alex Murdock (East Vic Park Physio Clinic.) For too many seasons to count, Steve Ransted has been Team Manager for the Colts and he again fulfilled the role with dedication and meticulous accuracy. The three Talent Carnivals (14s, 15s & 16s) saw a slow start by all teams before finally coming up to speed longer into the Carnivals the teams went.

STATE ACADEMY 18s REPRESENTATIVES Year WA State 18s Players Players Drafted Luke English, Ethan Hansen, Ian Hill (AFLA), Deven Robertson, 2018 Ian Hill, Luke English Sydney Stack & Elijah Taylor AFLA = AFL Academy STATE ACADEMY 16s REPRESENTATIVES Our stand-out 16yos, Logan McDonald and Nathan O’Driscoll, proved their class by representing the Perth Football Club in the WA State 16s Squad. They further impressed at the next level by stunning performances in the AFL National 16s Carnival. Logan McDonald and Nathan O’Driscoll were bestowed AFL 16s All Australian Honours. Daine Burnett guided the 16s for the third year in a row and he immerses himself in the role with forethought, vision, structure and fun. Former League Player, Scott Moore is Daine’s Senior Assistant and it is fantastic to have one of our very own paying back and investing in the Perth Demons’ youth. The other Assistant Coaching roles were filled by Clint Degebrodt, Sam Cousens, and Damian McCague and they provided pivotal support. Evan Dorr exceeded expectations as S&C Coach A very special nod to Team Manager Garry Hallett who is one of those special people who are the beating heart of a football club. The quality of the people involved indicates a very bright future for the Perth Football Club. Year WA State 16s Players PFC 16s played Colts Charlie Byron, Mack Hall, Logan McDonald & Nathan 2018 Logan McDonald & Nathan O’Driscoll O’Driscoll

A very special thanks to our new Jumper Sponsor, Revo Fitness and to Christina Harding of Christina’s who has been exceptional in her support over many years, they are both very special people. The Club is extremely blessed to have the Robert Wiley Foundation along with the hard working and generous Past Players & Officials Association. To President Wayne Koch and his Board and their dedicated volunteers I give heartful thanks for the continuous support of our Youth Football Programs and the sponsorship of many coach education initiatives. They are good, solid, generous people who roll up their sleeves and get the work done with a minimum of fuss and for the sole betterment and benefit of the Perth Demons. I am truly grateful to the efforts of the 2018 RWF 14s-15s Talent Squad Program and how it was supported by the coaches, assistant coaches and support staff, a huge undertaking. My thanks to Daine Burnett, Scott Moore, Dale Henri and Damian McCague who all acted as Head Coaches and they were magnificently supported by Assistant Coaches Kurt Bufton, Chris Maskiell, David Van Raalt, Nathan Dixon, Bradley Ralph, David Keys and Justin Baker. The S&C Coaches were led by Evan Dorr and his team consisted of Angela Chilwell, Kristen DeMarco and Daniel Buzzai. We are grateful for the involvement of Trevor Williams, Damian McCague, Bruce Fraser and Matthew Smith who acted as Talent Scouts at local Junior Matches and provided Talent Reports during the season. The Northam Satellite Squad trained each Monday night to provide a local based session in the country and was overseen by Matthew Strokes, Willie “Wonka” Dick and Trevor Williams, giving the country boys, an opportunity train locally and not travel. This program has proven to be based on player welfare with the added benefit of football development. Big thanks to Stokesy, Wonka and Trev. Callum Walley still plays a role with the Perth Demons, as we appointed Cal to our Welfare Officer position to assist our players with issues off the field. Cal’s previous experience as PFC’s AEO, provided Cal to be the ideal candidate for this vital role in youth football and we thank him for all his work behind the scenes. Michele Burton came on as our Administration Assistant and has been nothing short of sensational in the support role provided to the Talent Program. A special thanks to Gary Lendich, Ground Manager Extraordinaire, who makes life so easy and so much fun on Match Day, Perth has a real gem in Gary. As the 2018 season expires and we reflect on opportunities lost, we gather ourselves with an unflinching resolve to succeed, improve and once again carve our magic mark. With a new generation of Perth Demons Players preparing to take on the WAFL and give it a hell of an almighty shake, I now take my leave from the position of Talent Manager and would wish all the best to my replacement and thank the wonderful people of the Perth Football Club for their dedication, assistance, best wishes and the opportunities they have provided me over the last six seasons. I am forever indebted to the Club for involving me in such a famous institution, I have been enriched by its people and culture and sincerely wish everyone and every team involved at the Perth Demons the greatest success in the Club’s 120th Season and to be again “feared by one and all”. Bold, Connected, Committed.

Our Gala Auction continues to be the Number One fundraising event on the Demon’s calendar. This year a phenomenal profit of just under $100 000 was raised!

None of this would be possible without the dedication and tenacity of Kerrie-Ann Pendal, her committee, our wonderful volunteers and the generosity of our auction donors.

CENTURION FUND

The Centurion Fund was established in 2002, it’s aim was to create a reserve to protect the club against unforeseen circumstances. It continues to grow through generous donations, purchase of Centurion Walk Plaques and the proceeds of the annual Centurions Lunch. The fund is diligently overseen by Club Patron Peter Gilkison, former Club President Damian Matthews current Club President Daryle Mann and CEO Marty Atkins. We thank them for their hard work and dedication.

This year’s lunch was well attended, and the special guest was former Australian cricket star Dennis Lillee MA, MBE. It is well known that Dennis rarely agrees to such appearances – our sincerest thanks to our precious Allan ‘Chubby’ Stiles for working his special brand of magic there. Thanks also to all those who donated prizes, and a special thank you to Ted O’Connor for his very generous cash donation.

If you love the demons, and you are interested in contributing to the Fund that safeguards our future, please contact the club for details

AVON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION 2018

The Avon Football Association has had a great 2018 season. In June we travelled to Wongan Hills with a great group of young talented players and played in the Northern Regional Colts Carnival. Many thanks to coach Damien Murray, the players and all the support crew. In July we attended the Landmark Championships in Perth, still in Div 1 we had a great team, coached by Ali Smith & Matthew Stokes. The highlight was making the Grand Final but didn’t come home with the win. Thanks to all the players & support crew for your hard work. Congratulations to three of the AFA players for making the All-Stars. James Turner Beverley FC, Ali Smith Federals FC & Alex Moreno Federals FC.

Our season ended with the Stacey Medal count in August. Congratulations to the winners; Stacey Medal - Steven Caccetta (Railways FC), Ian & Wendy McNeil Medal - Stuart Murray,(Beverley FC.) Our Grand Final this year was at Tammin. Well done to Keller/Tammin FC for a great day. Well done to Railways FC league winners and Federals FC Reserve winners.

CENTRAL MIDLANDS COASTAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2018

The 2018 season started off with some changes to our previous player points system, which were altered to come into line with the WACFL player points system. With the continuation of the salary cap and the implementation of the new PPS rules, the season was always going to be a steep learning curve, but in the CMCFL, a very welcome addressing of the large amounts of money that have been distributed out to players in the previous season by all the clubs. All the clubs were affected by the changes to the points system, and with the implementation of the Player loyalty rules, we possibly allowed a slightly high team allocation for the 2018 season.

A massive addition to the 2018 season, was the implementation of the crossover games with the Mortlock Association. This was introduced in an effort to remove the byes that both league face with Mortlock having 7 teams, and CMCFL having 5. Our league believed this to be a successful trial and are very disappointed with the Mortlock FL decision to not continue these matches into the future, along with the addition of the hockey to our sporting program, we were certainly making some massive changes for the club heading into the future.

The 2018 season culminated in a great Grand Final which was held in Moora, on Saturday 1st September. With the Moora Mavericks taking the Little League premiership from the Cervantes Tiger Sharks, Dandaragan taking the reserves Premiership from the Cervantes Tiger Sharks, The Jurien Bay Bullettes taking the Premiership from the Cervantes Sharkettes in the netball, and Cervantes Tiger Sharks taking the League flag from the Lancelin Pirates. And with the incorporation of the hockey into the CMCFL for the 2018 season, the Cervantes Sharks took the flag from the Moora Mavericks in a very tightly contested game.

Steve Gilbert sat at the helm of the CMCFL, ably assisted by the Operations Manager, Rayelene Wright and his fellow directors; Wendy Cousins, John Abbott, Lewis Harvey and David Brown.

The League was very pleased to see several players from the CMCFL, both past players and current players who were given the opportunity to ploy Colts, Reserves and League football with the Perth FC in the 2018 season. It is exciting for us to see these young lads getting fantastic opportunities to further their football to the next level.

With the fantastic support of the Midlands Regional Football Development Council, who spend lots of hours ensuring that we have the protocols set up and in place to allow our players to strive to the top.

All in all, it’s been a great season for the CMCFL, and with some slight tinkering in the off- season, we hope to make some great improvements in the 2019 season.

NORTH MIDLANDS FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2018

The 2018 season has been an interesting season to say the least with Three Springs left at the barrier. Three Springs made ground for the rest of the season and flew through to the finals and just fell short of the major prize.

Congratulations to Morawa on a double Premiership win. Coorow Latham came very close but are still waiting to get hold of the Premiership cup after two very coordinated seasons.

Mingenew is in unfamiliar territory but remaining very competitive along with Carnamah Perenjori. Unfortunately, Dongara struggled to finish the season and have a job ahead for next season.

Thank you to all six clubs for their participation this year and their continued effort to fill match day requirements with the limited numbers at hand.

Thank you to all players who represented the NMFL at Colts and Landmark, your efforts were outstanding along with the Coaches Brad Forrester, Steve Fowler and Drew Mutter.

Reece Hutton from Morawa Football Club was the Hal Hunt medal winner for the Leagues Fairest and Best and celebrated a terrific year along with coaching the Premiership team.

The League’s Volunteer of the Year Grant Burnett contributed much support to the Three Springs Football Club and the League’s efforts at Landmark Country Week carnival, a truly deserved award for 2018.

Dwayne Wooltorton received life membership to the NMFL, his contribution to the League is priceless.

The Board of Management continues to support the NMFL and consults with the six Clubs and communities of the North Midlands without question.

CHRIS BROWN DEMONS DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

nother successful year in the WAFC Metro Central Region. Under the guidance of Community Development Manager Isaac Stewart, we continued to roll out a record number of programs and initiatives to further engage our community as a whole. I would like to take a few minutes to thank all those Apeople who had an impact on the Demons District in 2018. District Chairperson – Sean Collingwood and his District Football Development Council members who have helped drive important change in the district. To Junior Competition Council Director Marshall Hannah and Female Competition Director Jo Warner, whose tireless efforts to the JCC have seen an increase in positive game day environments throughout the district. The Competition Director role isn’t always a popular job and Marshall and Jo’s passion and commitment to Junior Football is very much appreciated. To Daniel Gibbons our Umpire Development Manager, who again continued to deliver high quality umpires to our competitions throughout the season. Without Dan and his umpires we wouldn’t be able to run matches each week. To Caitlin Tilsed at the Perth Angels; the amount of hard work and dedication they have put in to help establish the club as a premier destination for female football in WA. To the parents, coaches, and thousands of volunteers in club land that make the game of AFL so fantastic. Without you – the Volunteer, the game could not be what it is today, and we thank you for that.

SEASON SNAPSHOT 2018 showcased many great programs and highlights across the Demons District. Some of these include –

The addition of Coach Coordinator Allana Dickie. Allana has been a massive asset to the team. Her coaching guidance, development, education and mentorship to all junior community coaches across the Metro Central Region has been first class.

The strong support from the Perth Demons this season. With record numbers at the District Parade Day, outstanding support from the players for our junior club visits and the Auskick Gala Day at Curtin Uni. The continued hard work from Trevor Williams in driving the Demons Coach Academy, now in its 3rd season and Peter Brear for all his support with Nicky Winmar and Naitanui Cup programs.

The Year 2 Auskick Gala Showcase at the WACA ground was again the clear highlight this year. Over 100 teams across the WAFC Metro Central Region descended on the WACA for a huge day of fun, games and entertainment. Thanks to the strong support of the WACA and Perth Scorchers for helping grow this event even bigger in its second season.

The continued growth of Female Footy in both Clubland and Schools. The competition expanded to 4-year groups in 2018, with 6 of our 12 junior clubs now participating in girl’s competitions. Congratulations to Huntingdale and Vic Park for launching teams in 2018. The WAFC also hosted the inaugural Development Squad program for female footy which was a major success. Well done to Allana Dickie and Tayla Tenaglia for coordinating the Metro Central squads at the October carnival. The carnival now gives the girls an opportunity to follow the same talent pathway as the boys.

Finally, to all our Junior and Senior clubs for another outstanding and successful season. It was great to see strong participation growth across the board. Congrats to Manning, Gosnells and South Perth for reaching Quality Club Status with the AFL, with South Perth reaching Gold standard. Finally, to our major club of the year award winners, Thornlie (Auskick), Victoria Park (Modified), Manning (Youth) and South Perth (WAFL Award). Congratulations on your fantastic achievements.

I would also like to thank Perth FC staff - CEO Marty Atkins, FOM Dale Ballantyne, Cath Parker, Dee Brooks, Ryan Keatley, Jared Bell, Mel Newcombe, John Matthews, Lance Rigby and Trevor Williams. To the Senior coaches Earl Spalding, Andrew Panetta, Michael Pratt and Perth FC Board members John Dorazio and Wayne Smith for their continued support of the District. A special thanks to WAFC Perth Talent Manager Peter Brear who will be leaving us in November. Peter’s support not only to myself but the district, our programs and our clubs over the past 4 years has been extremely valuable and we all wish PB the best in the future.

Once again, to anyone I may have missed thank you for helping in the Perth District for 2018. Finally, to our WAFC Metro Central Team – Isaac Stewart, Maree Power, Corey Ranger, Christian Tufilli, Tayla Tenaglia, Hayden Cobley, Allana Dickie and Dan Marie thank you for all your support. We have a fantastic group of people and as a team we continue to work at an elite level and set best practice across the industry.

Have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year break and we will see you in 2019.
