November 26, 2014 Haskell Indian Nations University Page 5 Campus Query: How do you feel about the incident that happened on campus and by Hallie Long how do you think Haskell can prevent future incidents?

“As young men we must learn to treat women with respect. They are our equals and deserve more than is given. Native American women create warriors. Those warriors create a protective boundary in return. The women here at Haskell need to feel safe once again. Step up and do your part warriors.” Norman Hubbell, Senior posted to Facebook

“I was very appalled at first because as a part of the student body one of the first things that should go out is an incidence like this because I have a girlfriend who I worry about and sometimes she goes over to OK Hall and she has guy friends over there. I would want to know about something like this. Not for my personal interest but for the sake of others too because we are a community and if they are going to be hiding stuff from us and try and cover it up just for the sake of a couple of football players and athletes. That just tells me that they are showing a special interest in their football players and athletes when they are trying to cover it up from the students. Once I heard about this incident from an outside source and from students, you know how rumors go like wild fire. I was disgusted by the whole fact that alcohol was involved. It was very appalling. As much as I hate rules and everything, I think that they should be stricter and create more boundaries to prevent stuff like this from happening. If it comes to it put up cameras in the hallways. A couple of other Native colleges that I went to they do that, they put cameras up in the hallways to make sure that there aren’t any unwanted visitors or any curfew violations going on at a certain time because after hours is when the youth often prowl especially on the weekends. We all know that everyone likes to have their fun but there is a certain point where that fun is taken to another level, then that is when you have to worry. Wow, why is this young woman in these young men’s bedroom or why are these young men inside her bedroom without anyone else being there. I’m pretty sure they were all under age and under the influence, with that being said, I think the rules should be more disci- pline and there should be new rules added to the rule book about dormitory visitation and after hour curfew.” --Norman Hubbell
