WYCC PBS Chicago is honoring veterans with Chicago Sinfonietta: United We Stand, a stirring new classical concert. This inspiring musical tribute offers timeless compositions that capture the mood of American ideals and military service. Chicago Sinfonietta: United We Stand was filmed before a live audience at the Chicago Symphony Center. The concert will premiere on WYCC on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 at 8 p.m. Encore presentations will be shown Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, November 15 at 4 p.m., and Sunday, November 29 at 8:30 p.m. Chicago Sinfonietta conductor Mei-Ann Chen brings her innovative and expressive style to the beloved composition Variations on America by Charles Ives. This memorable evening of music also features a debut work by composer, guitarist, and Vietnam Veteran James “Kimo” Williams. His composition, Veteran’s Lament, is accompanied by an original film depicting the history and experience of being in the armed forces. In a unique twist, concert- goers provided the images of loved ones who served our country for use in the film. It’s an emotional and moving performance you won’t want to miss.
